Tranmere R v Wolves

Kick-Off 6.15pm at Prenton Park

For those fans who can't make some of the Rovers games this season, particularly the high number of costly and time consuming southern away games, we at Total Tranmere will be providing a Match Discussion Thread on the Site for every Rovers game.

The thread will allow you to discuss everything from the pre-match build up and starting line-up to the game it as it progresses and the post-match anaylsis.

Stadium Tranmere (Day)

Where possible, Total Tranmere staff will post up the starting line-up and substitutes on the thread as soon as it is made known at the game.

Tranmere of course at home to Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday evening in a game that is to be screened live to the nation on the FA Website in the third round of the FA Cup, so if you're not going to the game why not join in the banter right here while the game is going on.

Maybe if you have a friend or family member texting you from the game you can post their views here for others to see as the game progresses.

You could also use this thread to discuss other interesting scores throughout the league as well as discussing this game afterwards if you have been along to the game.

What you discuss below is up to you but hopefully it can all be focused on one thread to make it easier for everyone to use.

i looks like they are going to be close to full strength which makes things a lot harder, maybe we could get a draw or even sneak a win

I would argue this would make it harder for them, the wolves second team have a lot to prove as there ability has been forgotten about with recent events, yet the first team know that league is priority and if we throw 10 men behind the ball for 80 mins they may just say let them have it, last thing McCarthy wants is a replay!

Not expecting anything tomorrow, but we're the underdogs - there's no pressure and its the FA Cup, so anything can happen.

Just going back to league one for a second, two great results for us today, both Oldham and Wycombe lost. We are now 4 pts behind Oldham, 3 from safety, and 3 pts ahead of Wycombe with two games in hand on them, whilst we have a game in hand on the two sides ahead of us. 6 pts from the next two games (which is doable, I'd take 4 though) and things will look really good for us in my opinion.

Just got back and thought we were really unlucky not to get at least a replay. But for terrible finishing (Gornell's miss was nearly exactly the same as Moore's last week) we may even have nicked it.

We made them look pretty ordinary, yes they had most of the possession but you expect that from a premier league side. The only worry for me about the rest of the season is the lack of goals. For me the finishing of Curran, Gornell and Moore leaves a lot to be desired. We have plenty of players who are very hard working but lacking class in the final third.

But you can't be too hard on the players after that, we more than matched them for long periods and would never have done that under Barnes.

Superb performance despite the performance. If we could replay the first 10 games and play like that we'd be nowhere near where we are in the league.

Daniels made some excellent saves, that one in the second half was absolutely superb! However he desperately needs to improve his kicking - its as bad as Rickett's fitness.

Back four were excellent, made Iwelumi and SEB look like poor league one strikers, absolutely immense! Edds and Welsh worked and worked, can't believe Welsh was subbed off! McLaren was better than usual but he's still not good enough - he doesn't work hard enough and is too sloppy on the ball.

Curran, Gornell and ITM all worked v.hard and were doing well against the Wolves defence (which was probably the best part of there team. Gornell missed an absolute sitter, should of been on target at least and should of made that cb work! Curran also missed the chance at the end too!

Really proud to be a Tranmere fan tonight, we outsung Wolves and outplayed them, just weren't able to finish - I'd even go as far to say you wouldn't know which was the Premiership team! I'd be worried if I was a Wolves fan though, going forward they were unbelievably poor, slightly better defensively but if they were playing a Premiership side tonight they'd of been murdered - and thatw as their strongest team tonight minus Doyle (or so it was meant to be.)

I thought we played well tonight and deserved a draw but one moment of quality and we paid the price for missing those first half chances.

Tonight's game summed up our season perfectly for me, lack of a real goalscorer - the difference with Leeds beating Man Utd was they have one if not two players who can score goals whereas we don't.

A superb game though and a confidence booster to the rest of the campaign ahead.

Man of the Match by a mile for me was Logan!

again passion, effort and organised superb (apart from 1 10 second spell which meant a goal for them)

think mclaren did well tonight and lot more composed and contribution than welsh (kick it in the air and hope seems his only pass???) ITM racing around like a greyhound, gornell up front on his own did great (apart from ....)

Daniels wonder save and starting to command the box better

Goodison world class looked 10 years younger blocking/heading trying to make things happen (what a run down the wing!!!) add to this Ash 19 in front of good crowd and a super performance we have a gem of a player.

nothing but praise for the lads tonight and just a fine line between winning and losing tonight.

but to quote the old managers saying now we can focus on the league!!

just looked on site and 7,400 seems like a miscount to me?? is someone pinching the ticket money???

Goodison was the best player by miles absolutely class. Special mentions to Logan, Taylor, Mclaren, Welsh and Gornell too. I also think that Craig Curran is one of the worst players ever to play for Tranmere - he hasn't got a clue. He just runs around doing nothing, his touch is awful and whenever he dribbles he goes straight off the pitch. His performance was the only blot on a great team performance by Rovers.

Very harsh on Curran I feel (only my opinion like of course) but I thought he did very well again tonight.

if u think curran one of worst players to play 4 rovers u cant have been watching 4 that long weve had plenty awful players, i think curran decent.

It was a game we should have won with the chances we had, we were the better team overall and its so disappointing we didnt even get a draw but we were let down by our finishing yet again. What is it with our strikers and open goals!!!
A very good performance with several outstanding players but we have to start score more goals.

i feel that curran was great and fort he would had a better game if he wasnt being held round the neck by a 6ft defender all night

Currans had an awesome month and the only player at times who runs at defences I can't agree with u at all sorry Swa.

Curran an goodison awesome tonight. Infact the back 4 were superb, shame to lose To one pass right thru middle. Everyone worked hard tho even shukes brief spell was good.
Lads done us proud.

The boys did well tonight, deserved the draw but not too fussed now we are out of the cup, need to show that amount of passion in the league, the goals will come, the important thing is that we are getting into goal scoring positions, only dissapointment was the amount of crosses that went straight into their keepers hands.

A brilliant performance and I'm absolutely gutted we lost because we deserved something out of that game without doubt. We created so many chances and only their 'keeper kept them in the game with some excellent stops.

Gornell should have taken that chance and it would have been interesting to see what would have happened from there, but saying that Daniels made one of the best saves I've ever seen at the other end to keep it at 0-0.

I thought our back four was terrific. Taylor marked Iwelumo out of the game as he continues to get better and better, and when Logan was allowed to get forward more he created a number of chances.

It's just a shame our finishing let us down at times because the result does not reflect the performance. I thought we were the better team on the night and deserved to win.

The lads were awesome last night! Godison was my motm, but Ash was superb!

the only negative is we need someone who will put it in the back of the net, if we can sort that out then we will stay up!

Gornells miss would have been given as a foul had it gone in so not that fussed about that.

I agree with Matt,if it wasn't for their goalie & the clearance off the line we would have come away with at least a draw!! We desperately need a goalscorer, the strikers can't be faulted for work-rate,but the finishing is woeful,Ricketts was definatelty overweight,he looked fatter than me!!(Sm67),but overall we should be proud to be Tranmere fans today

I heard one of the match commentators suggest that Mick McCarthy was looking to send Sam Vokes back out on loan after his recent spell at Leeds. He only got one goal in ten appearances for them though, but he is a good talent. What do you reckon?

Hope must be centred on the return of Bas.A big target man will give us another option and hopefully Gornell and Curran will feed off him as well as Bas getting a few himself.
