Tranmere have announced this evening that striker Michael Ricketts has left the Club by mutual consent after failing to really make an impact at the Club since being signed by former Rovers Manager John Barnes early in the season......

Tranmere Rovers have today cancelled the contract of striker Michael Ricketts by mutual consent after the former England capped frontman failed to make any real impact during his time at Prenton Park.

Ricketts joined Rovers on a one year contract in August 2009 under then Manager John Barnes but made just eight starts out of a possible 27 appearances for the First Team and has not started a game since November.

The former Bolton, Middlesbrough and Walsall player amongst many other teams, scored just once for the team in the 2-1 away defeat at Exeter although he was somehow initially credited with Rovers' equalising goal in the 3-3 away draw at Huddersfield in December.

Speaking of Rickett's departure, Manager Les Parry said.....

"Michael's chances of starting matches here have been restricted by the form of Ian Thomas-Moore, Craig Curran, Terry Gornell and Chris Shuker.  At this stage of his career Michael felt that he needed to play regular first team football so we've decided to give him the chance to join another club where he will get an opportunity to play."

"During his time at the Club Michael has been a valuable member of the squad and has conducted himself professionally at all times.  I wish him all the best for the rest of his career."

Just to prove how little he really played for us, the only pictures I could find in our Image Searcher was of him at other Clubs but not playing for Rovers (hence the picture above when he was at Walsall).

I'm glad he's freed up some wages and hopefully another (maybe Bain) can also be offloaded too.

yeah would agree that we could do with getting rid of bain as well, i wonder if we had to pay him a certain amount 4 him to agree to the cancelling of the contract.

Glad he's gone, frees up a wage and probably a sizeable one at that. Hopefully allows us to bring in somebody else of a much better quality. Perhaps it's time to give Bain ago.

with any luck bain will be the next to go, he didnt do anything on loan at kettering and although hes not been given much of a chance with us i think its because its now fairly obvious hes not upto this level.

Players obviously deserve a chance in the first team but having watched the Reserves a lot too Bain hasn't really impressed and if allowing him to go means we can bring someone else in then I'd be all for it.

thank god for that!!

i'll be fair to the man and say he didn't really get his chance at Rovers but then when your majorly unfit throughout the summer what can you expect. Good luck to him in the future but he is seriously going to need it... who on earth is going to take him on?
