Should Les Parry Stay on as Rovers Manager in the Summer?

Our latest Total Tranmere poll asks you whether or not you'd like to see Les Parry stay on as Tarnmere manager in the summer as the speculation continues to grow over exactly who will be in charge of Rovers next season as which League they will be playing in.....
After over 100 of you voted in our Wembley legends poll over the last two weeks, we've today added a new poll on to the Total Tranmere website.
Over the next two weeks, we're asking you if you think Tranmere should retain Les Parry as manager next season. The options in the poll are Definitely Yes, Yes if we stay up, Unsure and Definitely No.
Parry took over as Tranmere caretaker manager in on October 7th following the sacking of John Barnes, with Shaun Garnett and Wayne Allison as his assistants, before being appointed as Tranmere's manager until the end of the season in November.
However, Parry's contract as manager only runs until the end of the season, after which Rovers chairman Peter Johnson, or Parry himself, could choose to return Les back to his position as Tranmere physio, which he's occupied since 1993.
The poll is on the Total Tranmere front page, and we will publish the results in the next two weeks.

no les is a legend at rovers,if he carries on he will eventually get sacked.wouldnt like to see that happen.go back to the physio les ,after youve kept us up

I agree Pete, once the end of the season comes around there will be no shortage of managers out of work wanting to get back into the game and although Les is doing a decent job with the team he inherited i feel that a new man should be brought in and Les revert to his "day job"

It's difficult - if we go down then I'd let him revert to his physio role and bring someone else in - but it's always handy to know we have a competent man within the club to steer us in the right direction should we ever make any more ridiculous managerial appointments.
As said above, Les is a legend and I'd hate to see him get sacked, I suppose ultimately it would be up to him but I'd love to see him stay as a physio, maybe an "adviser" if you like for the new man.

From Les's point of view, if we stay up he could go back to his Physio job as a hero forever but from what I see and here from within, he is really enjoying the job right now and would I'm sure be tempted to stay on.

Combined role as Physio / Assistant Manager would be ideal for me.
Les has done well, but lets face it, we really need to reshape the team next season.
Les already knew most of the lads and knows what makes them tick, but he doesn't really have any knowledge of building a team, which is the position we are gonna be in come the summer.
After all the rumours about Cotterill early in the season, look what he's doing at Notts County. I think we really missed out there!

To be fair Cotterill has some decent players there (which County have now said they can't really afford) but the team was built through money and that shows!

i would say no he should rvert back to being a physio and we bring in a new face as manager.
With a lot of the squad being ut of contact in the summer as well as loanees returnin to their clubs someone with experience of this level would be handy if we can entice them.

If we stay up Les will stay on, who else would we get, same deal as this season, bring in a physio on a contract, if les wants to go back then he can, he would never be sacked, just asked to stand down.
Chief as assistant, done well with Garno.
In the summer players will come to us, we won't need to go looking, Les knows enough to see in a player what he needs.
It will all be about which division we are in, if its league one then I expect the same team as this season with the exception of the loanees, with maybe a striker who could hit a cows ar$e with a banjo.

If Les is only a 'temporary' manager, till the end of the season. Then there is no reason to look elsewhere for a manager.
There is always Garno or The Chief to take over and Les could return to being Physio. Both of them have their full coaching badges and are qualified!

if les is only temp as said why is he looking at players for next year as he said at les aid why at celebrtion of wembely did all the ex players say hopefully les will keep them up and they will push on next year for me he has already got it

He has to look for next year just in case.. could you imagine if he got the job at the end of May and had done NO preparation for next season...
Besides he's always on the look for loans to so he can identify players he wants then.

Les has done a good job in a very difficult decision but in the long term I do not seeing him having the acumen to mould the long term development of the club. his strenghth has n]been in motivating players. Tactically he is not impressive and to be honest the loans he has brought in do not suggest he is agreat spotter of talent or even a shrewd recogniser of our most pressing needs. Stay up or get relegated he deserves gratitude and admiration for how he has set about this year. We do however have to avoid judging him as good simply because he is relatively better than the dire regime of Barnes. We will continue to carry the heritage of that period- an over paid over contracted Mahon and McLaren. We have to rebuild with resources already in part wasted. I think that needs a real old hand with a track record of wheeling and dealing.

to be fair, he has made up abut 14 points and got us for points clear he also got a great replacement rightback so i feel transfer wise he has done a good job

One replacement right-back, who played four(?) games for the club on-loan doesn't show his ability in the transfer market. What would show his ability in the transfer market, and his eye for a player as well as how well he manages budgets, would be proving he can build a squad in the summer, after we have our usual mass-exodus.

I would not like to see Les in charge next season. He is not a manger after being in football so long he knows what to do i give him that. But I don't think he is strong enough. No subs in close games. He will not change the game just in case he gets it wrong. He said that Bas looked tired then why was he still playing when Sordell was on the bench?. At Oldaham away he said if we sub then we could only go on to lose the game?. At leeds home it seemed that he told them just kick any where. We need a good manager that has worked in the this league or lower with a good track record. forget all the big names we have got no chance and no money for them. If Les wants to become a manager he should start off as the reserve manager or at a lower club like every other manager does to learn his trade.

Not EVERY manager starts at a lower league club as reserve managers! Far from it in fact. Look at the like of Di Matteo, Martinez etc. who all started at clubs bigger/same size as ourselves.
To write him off based on that is completely unfair and unjustified.

Whilst I agree with that point I do have to agree with some of Pete's reasons why Les should go back to the Physio job next season.
With the accounts the way they are I can only see a cheap option as Manager next season and that to me says it will be Les....
On that basis it would be the right choice (financially) but in other ways I'm not so sure it would be.

I agree with some of the points too, especially the subsitutes point, but the post seems to come to a very harsh conclusion that he shouldn't be a manager because of his lack of experience. Everybody starts somewhere.

It's not harsh it's what i seen at the games .I would like to see a manager that's done it before not just starting out. The managers you pointed out have been big names in football and already have a head start for convincing clubs to take them on. Yes sure some have made it right away. But most come through the lower league first. Les has done an OK job but i don't want him as a manager next season it's not wrong just my choice

the reluctance to change things are a big reason i dont think he should be in charge and his fascination with playing mclaren every week as well.
When we are home to a another poor team why play 3 central midfielders who are more or less holding players and playing gornll out wide as well just baffles me

Tranmere is a club deep in debt, and in no position to spend any more money than it is taking at the gate. We are entirely in Johnson's hands.
I do not know how much is being paid to Les Parry, but I would guess it is a very modest amount. I do not see any man of managerial experience being prepared to take over at the same cost, and anything else is a gamble!
The main target at the moment is to stay alive! That means living within your own budget however poor that figure. It does not matter if that means 2nd Division or even the Conference.
Tranmere must not be thrown into administration!
I am quite certain Les Parry knows all this, and that his hands are tied as to signing new players of quality.
Bearing all this in mind, I think Les Parry is doing a superb job for Tranmere, and we must show him that we understand this and support him in every way we can.
I am sure we need to hang on to him, - and his management colleagues who equally are doing an excellent job.

If Les wants to do the job next year - then let him. His strength is man-management, a quality sorely lacking in his useless predecessor...... you can't coach this quality into people.
Some good options listed here though....

Two managers on that Monday late night show , speaking about Parry, said that players need the physio's ear to air their feelings. With this situation they don't have that
I do not think another man would take over with Parry there !! Could be he's manager or on the dole?
What does the Chief do ? If he's supposed to look after the attack he should be on his bike.

Firstly, why on earth should Garnett go? He's been a fantastic coach of the youth and reserve teams for several years now and has helped nurture through some very useful players for us, like Ash Taylor who is currently one of our best and most vital players.
Les is a very good physio, one of the most qualified in the league, I hear. Having him around not only as a physio but for advice for a new man would be key next season, IF he doesn't stay on as manager.
As for the Chief, very good coach but all accounts and has put across some good coaching ideas, I hear. Also a very well qualified coach. Our strikers may not be scoring much, but then if they had chances they'd score. You can't lament him for them not scoring when they have no plate to eat off.

les wanted the midfield to support the back four , which he got. That about sums up his management. If the Chief ...who was never a great forward..has ideas in terms of attack then those ideas are stifled. You could put Aldo into this team and he wouldn't score because there is nobody to support a striker.

Actually this is a Tranmere Rovers forum for discussion between Tranmere fans, so for some people this is the first point of contact for fans to discuss their opinion.
Besides if you do actually mean the Tranmere board - do you really think they'd read every e-mail etc?

The idea of a new manager coming in and Les, Garno and Chief dissappearing seems ridiculous.
I appreciate, in clubs higher up the leagues that when a new manager comes in he usually brings in all his own backroom staff, but for a club like opurs who cannot afford those options, I doubt it would happen. If it did, it'd probably be only Chief as he wasn't contracted to the club before Les came in. Garno has been a coach for years and is the youth team manager and Les, obviously is the physio. Physios don't tend to lose their jobs if a new manager comes in!
