Youngster Taylor Called up to Wales Squad

Tranmere Rovers youngster Ashton Taylor has today been called up to the Wales U-21 international squad who face Austria on May 18th.

Taylor has risen through the youth ranks at Prenton Park and made his first team debut as a substitute away at Scunthorpe on the final day of the 2008/09 season.

He signed his first professional contract in December 2008, signing an extension to this contract in the summer after a successful pre-season and impressive loan spell with Non League side Colwyn Bay at the back end of last season.

This year, the Tranmere number 12 has gone on to become a vital player for the club, playing in both defence and midfield under managers John Barnes and Les Parry, making 36 appearances and scoring three goals.

Taylor has represented Wales at a number of school boy levels but this is his first international call up since breaking in to the Tranmere Rovers team.

Taylor becomes the first Tranmere trained player to win international recognition since Ryan Taylor made his England U-21 debut shortly after leaving the club in 2005.
