Broomes Agrees to Extended Stay with Rovers

Defender Marlon Broomes has today committed his future to Tranmere Rovers by signing a new one-year deal after appearing in 35 games for Rovers last season after signing during the ill-fated John Barnes era at the start of the campaign.....

Defender Marlon Broomes has today signed a new one year contract with Tranmere Rovers which keep him at the Club until June 2011.

The 32-year old joined Rovers last season under the stewardship of the ill-fated John Barnes and Jason McAteer partnership  and even after the pair had departed the club, went on to make 35 appearances at both centre back and right back, also scoring his first and only goal for the Club in the 2-1 home win over Southampton.

Broomes Marlon

Broomes began his career at Premier League side Blackburn Rovers where he made 39 appearances and won two caps for England Under-21's.  He jthen oined Sheffield Wednesday in 2001 and also spent time at Preston North End and Stoke City before joining Blackpool in 2008-09.

Broomes becomes the sixth player to sign a contract this summer following the signings of Joss Labadie and Timothy Cathalina and the new deals signed by Ash Taylor, Ryan Fraughan and Jack Mackreth.

Speaking to the Media, Manager Les Parry said....

 "Marlon did really well for us last season and was one of our most consistent players."

"He showed how versatile he is by playing at centre back and right back and he is a very experienced, professional player.  I'm delighted he has agreed to stay with us for another season."

Im quite happy he has signed i thought he improved during the 2nd part of the season and provides competition in a couple of positions

I think he was a little underrated last season for sure. His move to right back seemed to actually bring out the best in him.

Good news this in my opinion. He got stronger towards the end of last season and put in some pretty decent performances. We need to keep a reasonable core of last seasons squad and just strengthen around them by bringing in players like Labadie
