Tranmere Rovers look to secure their first signing since appointing Les Parry as their permanent manager
Total Tranmere can reveal that Tranmere Rovers look set to make their first signing since manager Les Parry signed a new one-year contract as they look to secure the services of Manchester City goalkeeper Gunnar Nielsen.
Hailing from the Faroe Islands, Nielson, 24, made his Premier League debut in April, coming on as a substitute for City against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in a 0-0 draw, making him the only player from the Faroe Islands to play in the Premier League.
The goalkeeper joined City from Blackburn in July 2009, having failed to make any appearances for the Ewood Park side.
Whilst at Ewood Park, Nielsen also had two loan spells away with the club, at Motherwell in 2008, when he also failed to make an appearance, and at Wrexham last season, for whom he made five appearances.
Nielsen has won two international caps for the Faroe Islands, making his debut in 2009, having represented the nation's Under 21's side on several occasions.
The goalkeeper is expected to sign for Tranmere this week, though it is not yet clear whether he will be signing permenantly or on loan. He will join 18-year old Joe Collister as the club's first team goalkeepers.

Its hard to say if he is any good or not as hes only played reserve team football in england but fingers crossed he will do a good job

Has been on loan at motherwell didnt get played and was at wrexham for 5 games but got an injury and returned to city

And when City had injuries they went out and borrowed rather than trust him.So what is the evidence that he is any good?

He has only played u21 so now is over age.It is one step above representing Hilbre Island!

So we should be trying to get Brad Freidel or someone then Devon?
I just can't understand what some fans expect at the moment especially without seeing these players play first.

Devon, if you read the article, which you obviously haven't, you will notice that he's actually played for his nation twice at full international level. But hey, what the @#$%&, let's write the lad off and then maybe he'll read this and not sign! Why not. In fact, let's do it for EVERY player we're linked with and then perhaps they won't sign. Oh wait, people do that anyway!

It is not writing him off but neither is it writing him up.It is a crucial position for a team likely to struggle and the fact is that he has no significant experience.Now that would not bother me if we had another keeper on the books who is experienced but our other goalie is also atotal rookie.More than any other position experience matters and that is why so many goalkeepers do not reach a peak until their late 20s/ early 30s.
He may turn out to be great but even in the lower divisions clubs often try to have at least one experienced keeper to call upon.I just do not think it it ideal to have 2 totally untried players in this position

Luke Daniels was hardly experienced (or much older) but he was brilliant last season.

DevonExile, players MUST gain experience from somewhere. Yes, he's not proven yet, but he must have something about him to have been signed by BOTH Blackburn and then Manchester City, as well as Motherwell.

A lad i work with is a Wrexham fan. He said he was a very good keeper. He said that after a few games he broke his neck and then was out for the rest of the season but looked good............

I always give players a chance Matthew. Jst interested to know if anyone had actually seen him play or knew anything about his previous performances.
Would prefer Rovers to sign a goalkeeper to build a team around but there you go!

City have today released another keeper and Steve Simonsen has been released by Stoke!

Simo's gone or is going to Sheffield United. He went there on loan at the end of last season.

I heard this too. He was there covering for Paddy Kenny during part of his drugs ban, and now Kenny has moved on, Sheff Utd want Simmo back on a perm deal.

However, stuart taylor has been released by man city, well worth a contract, huge fella with lots of experience.......
