I'm not comparing them in terms of ability, the example was used to show that, for a keeper, he isn't too old.

I don't think he'll play really.. he's just cover.

Nielsen gets called up for the Faroe Islands.. when he's away I expect Collister will play and Miotto will just be the sub.

He'll only feature on the playing side of things if we have an injury crisis.

It's like saying i have got fifty pound note and a five pound note and there both the same because they are money. So that make's them the same. You gave a example of one the greatest goal keepers around that has kept his form and fitness level to stay at the highest level for years vs a average goalkeeper. I still think 41 is far to old for a back up keeper ........................

Nixon was a back up 'keeper for us past 41. As Mikey says, he's only here as cover if we have a crisis which sees Nielsen and Collister both go missing. It's better than having two 'keepers both go injured and having nobody to cover him.

Exactly. The club are paying a 4th keeper, but look what happened when they havd to loan Martin and Gulasci. It means they had to worry about getting a replacement for Daniels in potentially a week or less.

This situation gives Les some peace of mind, when it comes to injuries or as mentioned, when Nielsen is off on foreign matters.

Better than having Neilsen injured and find another loan keeper, who may be so young, the best thing he could do with his gloves, is wipe his own nose.

By the way, I really liked the look of this guy in the warm up yesterday. He had a very hands on approach with the 'keepers and used some methods that I've not seen used before that looked good, innovative and effective. Hopefully he'll teach Nielsen how to come off his line and how to catch a shot.

shows what he thinks of collister then, how is collister to get experience if when the no1 keeper isnt available he doesnt get picked?

I'm sure Joe will play in goal, Les wouldn't pick a 41 year old who hasn't played English league football since 2004/05

so your telling me a game that if we win get a half way decent team in next round get bit money if at home.

well he is 100 percent on bench but apprently he is going to make debut

I don't think there was any doubt he'd be on the bench but I'm pretty sure Joe will start. He's a very talented young 'keeper who will shine for us in the future.

exactly in the future at the moment these games are more important than ever because any extra revenue could help les sign better players

Miotto's career as a player is @#$%&...he went to Blackpool and didn't play, was released and didn't play for years. Played very infrequently for the likes of Scunthorpe, St Johnstone, York, West Brom and Hartlepool over the rest of his career. He's not even experienced, he's just old!

Joe will play ahead of him, Joe is a player who needs experience and these are the kinds of games he should play in. You never know, he may thrive on the pressure of knowing if he plays well he could keep his place.

What's the point in having the lad on the books and bringing him through if you're not going to play him? It would destroy his confidence for starters.

i have no proplem with joe playing am just saying what i have bin told and i said why not joe i got told he is to inexperianced

Miotto hasn't a lot of First team football 'tis true, but he probably has had a lot of reserve football and it all counts.

Collister would, if not selected for the Walsall starting 11, still be a guy with a great future anyway. People like Miotto, would only be good for his confidence not bad, because he could see Miotto performing on the pitch and also get more help from him to improve his own game.

Miotto represents a good segway for guys like Collister and Couglin to progress to better things, skill wise and being able to watch him play first hand, not just learn from him, to me is an added bonus.

Many young keepers don't get that, as the coaches are not playing staff also and the main keepers can on many occasions have as little as a 4-5 year age difference, so they might be idolised, but they're then not vastly superior in age and expreience.

Though i'm not saying Miotto is idolised by the younger keepers, as he's not David James or someone like that, with a mostly rolls royce playing history

Lots of first team expreience is not Miotto's strong suit I agree, but almost certainly a lot of reserve standard football, playing on probably several occasions, against some really solid players, nudging back into first team contention after long layoffs.

The clubs he was at, wouldn't have all been fielding, basic standard £30,000 or less types of footballers, in their reserves, so I'm happy his playing presence is an asset.

Though obviously time will tell.

How can him playing ahead of Joe be a boost to Joe's confidence? Collister has come through the youth ranks and is now in his second season as pro, despite being 18. This shows how far he's progressed as a player and how highly he's rated at Tranmere.

He's just started his second season as a number two and is probably itching to play first team football and confident he can do a job for us in net. From what I've seen of him, which is quite a lot, I'd say he's well ready for the first team too.

But for a 41-year old neverhasbeen to come in and take his place in the team when Nielsen goes would be a HUGE blow to his confidence. The chance he has been waiting for would be snatched away by his coach. How can that be a good thing?
