For those fans who can't make some of the Rovers games this season, particularly the high number of costly and time consuming southern away games, we at Total Tranmere will be providing a Match Discussion Thread on the Site for every Rovers game.

The thread will allow you to discuss everything from the pre-match build up and starting line-up to the game it as it progresses and the post-match anaylsis.

Stadium - Walsall

Where possible, Total Tranmere staff will post up the starting line-up and substitutes on the thread as soon as it is made known at the game.

Tranmere of course travel to Walsall on Tuesday in the Carling Cup, so if you're not going to the game why not join in the banter right here while the game is going on.

Maybe if you have a friend or family member texting you from the game you can post their views here for others to see as the game progresses.

You could also use this thread to discuss other interesting scores throughout the league as well as discussing this game afterwards if you have been along to the game.

What you discuss below is up to you but hopefully it can all be focused on one thread to make it easier for everyone to use.

You can also follow updates from the game on Twitter, where Total Tranmere will provide live, up to date coverage of the match, including goals, substitutes, and chances.

If you want to recieve these updates, all you have to do is sign up to Twitter and follow Total Tranmere at www.twitter.com/totaltranmere

What team would we all go for tonight? I'd go with:

Collister

Darville Goodison Wood Cresswell

Fraughan Welsh Labadie

MacKreth Showunmi Thomas-Moore

Re: Walsall vs. Tranmere Rovers match discussion

I'd go with this:

Collister
ANYBODY FROM THE YOUTH TEAM, EXCEPT DARVILLE
Blanchard
Goodison
Bakayogo

MacKreth (because we've got no wingers)
Power
Welsh
Fraughan

Showunmi
Thomas-Moore

Only right-back we've got in the youth team is Liam Benson. He's ok but nowhere near ready for the first team. Darville's positional sense looked poor but that was due to him getting dragged ouf position by Wood. I'd give him another chance.

why didn't baka play on saturday???

I'd say because he's been very poor all pre-season and showed an unwillingness to sign. Cresswell has impressed in pre-season and did very well on Saturday, he was, despite being our left-back, our main attacking outlet and he defended very well

Collister

Darville Goodison Blanchard Bakayogo

Fraughan Welsh Labadie Cresswell

Showumni ITM

Think we've got to go back to the 4-4-2, showumni looked lost on saturday on his own in the centre

i agree with danny 'the main man' with his selection but i think the only thing i would do would be to swap fraughan for mackreth.Mainly because he will add some pace and some flair.

Worried yes, will ITM be in the right frame of mind and will he play tonight. I hope he does, scores two and we win 2-1. Any bets!(Sm22)

I think Walsall are good defensively but with deeney gone there gonna struggle for goals.

But then again there not the only ones.

Ian Thomas-Moore to score first and Tranmere to win 2-1 is 60/1 with William Hill

Anyone else think Gornell could be the man to score the goals this season we need in a central 4-4-2 role? not fair slating him, at the end of the day hes not a winger! just needs a decent run in the centre an he'l bang them in imo

Walsall fan here, smiling smiley

just thought i'd check out your prematch veiws,

your looking at probably 2,000 fans tonight, as there is a large stay-away campaign against the club Chairman.

We're currently without any strenght upfront, due to Watford signing our leading goal scorer on the eve of the new season, and we're very reluctant to make subs,

our teams very young, and we lack experience,

so it looks like it'll be an even game,

Oh dear, this thing with the Chairman was happening when we played you in April, I was reading about it on the forums and remember all the cyprus flags?

Your team sounds like ours! Hopefully we can sneak a win but I'm never hopeful for us with away games!

we were really struggling for goals on Saturday,

and our defence is pretty laggy at the moment,

we've got no experience, 1 of our players is a doubt with a thigh strain, and another is on International duty,

our average age for defenders is 22,

Our defence is Goodison (37?) Cresswell (19?) Nick Wood (19?) and Darville (19??) so we're not much older..

yeah, the cyprus stuff is pretty stupid, but i get where they're coming from,

with 2 or 3 new players we could be play off contenders, but at the moment we could end up as relegation fodder,

we need some experience with some one who can lead the pack, and we need a goal scorer,

we've got 2 good wingers in Jones and Gray, but we don't play the right sort of football to utilise them,

but your ITM story seems a bit like what happened to us with Deeney,

one of our message board posters started a thread about him, saying we should look into signing him, but the majority of the board dissagreed,

If he leaves he'll go to Rotherham IMO but it could just be a ploy to get the one year extension he wants.

yeah, thats what our fans thought, going to the Roth.

hmm, Deeney said he was a bit miffed as he wasn't offered a new contract with Walsall when all the Watofrd stuff was kicking off,

i expect us and them to be fighting it out for league survival if im honest. nice to see we have the slight edge over them that could be crucial.

i do feel for the saddlers due to the fact were suffering the same problems too

thanks,

i hope your striker stays with you,

our only predator striker got shipped out,

leaving us with two strikers who need lots of service if they're going to score,

and no experience down the middle of the park,

Just got back, terrific win. We were so much improved on Saturday's performance it was unreal, despite an unchanged outfield team.

The first half was very even, and to be honest niether side deserved to be ahead at half time. For us to sneak it was a bonus. There were very few chances, and thankfully we took what I think was our only one in the half.

After the goal, we settled down much more and in my opinion were the better side second half.

Gornell and McLaren came much more into it and put in really good displays. McLaren's set pieces were 100 times better whilst his first touch and passing was calm and helped us when under pressure. Terry meanwhile did some superb work defensively, held the ball up well and put in an excellent and very dangerous cross in the second half for Thomas-Moore, who had a header saved.

As I mentioned about the Oldham game, with such a big side we should create chances from set pieces and Macca got these spot on today. We scored from one through Goodison, Labadie knocking a free-kick down to Goody, whilst Wood came very close in the second half too with a header from a corner.

We could have had two or three in the second half so to not score was disappointing but to keep a clean sheet and progress to the second round is excellent, especially as Walsall had some really good chances.

Started from the back, we were excellent. Joe Collister was absolutely fantastic. He made some excellent claims from crosses and made a terrific save one-on-one in the second half to keep us ahead. He was so much more commanding and better than Nielsen, and to keep a clean sheet is the icing on the cake for him. Excellent!

Wood was much more calm and composed at the back whilst Darville wasn't too bad either. Goodison his usual strong self with a good poachers goal whilst Cresswell put in another good display.

Our midfield was, as I say, so much better than Saturday. Welsh was terrific again, doing lots of running and putting in lots of tackles. As I mention above McLaren was much better and his improved performance gave Labadie more freedom, who got forward more and had a couple of good surging runs.

Up front, Showunmi got better as the game went on, held the ball up well and did a lot of good running and closing down, though never had a shot on goal, whilst ITM was his usual self, loads of running, some superb long range passes, a good first touch and unlucky not to grab a goal or two.

Delighted with the win, role on round 2!

Magnificent win, and such a pleasing turn around from the Oldham game! Just the complete opposite to Saturday, which is great!

We fought as a unit, and battled as a team in true Tranmere style, and victory in the cup is always sweet.

Come on Round Two!

Good question, and one I don't know the answer too. The point of the abuse was because he beat his wife up, but that has nothing to do with football. Some of the stuff people were shouting was horrible (as ever)

ooh, yeah, i knew about that, but wondered whether it was anything specific,

he had chants of millwall when they came, (he played for them in the past)

they shouted stuff like: where's Jamelia gone....

but he's a decent guy now, despite what he's done in the past, but he gets worked up on the pitch and often reacts to fans jeering him with swearing and jestures.. sad smiley

He looks like a nice guy too, he looks friendly...but I don't blame him for rising to the bait fans offer up. At the end of the day, I would if people were shouting horrific abuse at me, and we saw it ourselves last weekend with Ian Thomas-Moore when the Oldham fans were chanting a horrendous song at him

The more he reacts the more fans our gonna sing stuff like that too him. It puts him off his game at times (certainly did on Tuesday.)
