Les Parry's Post Match Reaction: Walsall

Manager Les Parry gives his reaction to Tuesday nights 1-0 win away to Walsall in the first round of the Carling Cup.

Tranmere manager Les Parry gave his post match reaction after yesterday evenings 1-0 win at Walsall. The first away win of the season put Tranmere into the round two draw of the Carling Cup and Rover's will find out their opponents this evening.

Speaking to TranmerePlayer, Les said... "I think it was well deserved. I would have liked it if we weren't hanging on for the last few minutes but I'd have taken it before the game.

"I was pleased with Ian Goodison and I was particularly pleased with Enoch Showunmi. He didn't perform on Saturday and I think he showed our fans what he's about tonight. He tired early on Saturday but today he seemed more up for it, his level of effort was outstanding and he caused them problems.

"We said before the game that we thought all 11 lads had something to prove and to a man every one of them did better. Joss was more disciplined and didn't go missing and McLaren got on the ball more."

Talking about Joe Collister, who replaced Gunnar Nielsen in goal at Walsall, Les told Player...

"I was surprised it wasn't on Sky but I said not to put it on the website in case Walsall don't know. The lads gave Joe a round of applause in the dressing room which reflected the game he had."

Les then went on too talk about the Ian Thomas-Moore situation, with the strikers transfer request being discussed by the Tranmere Board yesterday

"I told the directors that the fact he's put in a transfer request won't affect his performance because that's the sort of lad he is. I didn't hesitate in leaving him as captain because he leads by example.

 "I don't know what was decided, I had to leave the board meeting to get on the coach and I've not spoken to the chairman yet. I think whatever happens it will be turned down. Whether we discuss another year's contract with him is the talking point."

Finally Les commented on Adam McGurk who featured on Rovers bench yesterday...

"We're a little bit short up front and he has shown us a lot. We haven't discussed terms with him yet but we needed him on the bench and the best way to do it is non-contract, but that's only until we discuss terms with him."
