In his Monday press conference this morning, Rovers Manager Les Parry spoke of his desire for a quick return to fitness for some of his more experienced squad members despite the excellent 1-0 win over Peterborough United on Saturday afternoon witha relatively young starting side........
After Tranmere's excellent 1-0 home win over high-flying Peterborough United on Saturday afternoon, Rovers Boss Les Parry expressed in his regular Monday press conference, the need for a return to fitness soon for some of his more experienced squad members as the squad continues to be hit by injuries throughout...
Speaking to Tranmere Player earlier, Les Parry said.....
"I think it's too young, but that isn't by design, it's by necessity. You need a spine of experience, you can't have a whole team of 19
year olds."
"On Saturday, it was only the midfield where we didn't have
experience as up front we had Enoch and Ian (Thomas-Moore) and Ian Goodison in defence but that was the lot. The midfield were fantastic on Saturday but whether they can sustain that is questionable."
"Adam McGurk's ankle isn't too good and Ian Goodison has cricked his back, Enoch Showumni has a bit of tendonitis in his right knee and Ryan Fraughan came in for treatment yesterday and won't train today after taking a kick to his right foot."
"I brought in one of the FA coaches today, Neil Bailey, to work with the lads and to make things a bit different and we've got 12 outfield players out of 26 training!"

Well people were crying out for experience before and I think Tranmere could do with some in midfield.
I believe in Welsh, and when Mahon comes back, I think he deserves a shot, but for me Mendy is definitely one to try and hold onto for longer.

We all know maclaren will come back in to the startig line up hes bollocks we shoud just terminate his contract

The difference on Saturday for me was Blanchard, his performance enabled the midfield to play better!
Les must not replace the current lads with the 'experienced rubbish of McLaren and Welch!!!
Or has Les not got a choice?

New line ups forced out of injuries can create new unexpected successes. Remember that little period when Mclaren ended up using Barry and Heskey for England? It was our best performance for ages (then) and Barry has remained in place.
I'd stick one more game at least with this midfield. See what they can do but be ready to sub in some one with experience if need be.
Totally agree re: Mahon. He still has got it talent wise. I'm hoping after so long on the sidelines he'll have an indian summer for his career. Remember he came down a level to join us. Sure he got his 3 years but he still didn't need to come down to L1. I genuinely don't think he's sitting there taking the p*** collecting his paycheck. I think he's feeling guilty and wants to give something back. Perhaps I'm being naive but here's hoping.

Unfortunately, Alan Mahon just has not got the fitness in his legs any more!
I'm not talking about injuries, but his engine, hence thats why he will be splinter picking again this season.
It was ridiculous of the club to give him a 3 year deal, when it was quite obvious, he wasn't up to league 1 standard fitness wise.
One of my fave players, but unfortunately Father Time and all that!

Energy and pace in midfield not "experienced"slow coaches will see us win matches home and away.keeping faith with the old boys could cost Les his job.

Well he should be given a chance anyway. Trying to write him off when he's not even come back is a bit unfair. He could boost performances or hinder them, but until you try you'll never know.
Let's face it, Les could have decided to try using Power, Fraughan and Blanchard in midfield and leave Mendy on the Bench, but he decided to punt on the new guy and it payed off.
I think Mahon could have something to offer and deserves a chance to prove it a least, when he's able to be played again.

Barnes's biggest mistake was to bring in Mahon on a three year contract. I remember Barnes saying they had to stretch the budget some way to bring him in so I bet he's our highest earner - which is not good given our current resources.
Parry dropped Mahon quite quickly after he took over, even when he was fit. Barnes bought him in to fit in with his vision of expansive 'total football' in league 1. Parry wants us to be 'horrible' to play against doesn't he. Can't quite se Mahon fitting in with that game plan.
Great player during the Adridge days and would love to be proved wrong.
