Tranmere's star defender signs a new two year deal with the club, extending his stay on the Wirral by one year
Tranmere Rovers defender Ian Goodison has signed a one-year contract extension, meaning the Jamaican will remain at Prenton Park until the end of the 2011/12 season.
The evergreen defender was brought to Prenton Park in 2004 by then manager Brian Little, who had also managed the player at Hull City.
After a bedding in period that saw the player struggle as he was played out of position at left-back, the player eventually settled and soon became a firm fan favourite when moved to centre back by Ronnie Moore.
In his mid-30s, Goodison has made over 300 starts for Tranmere and is one of the most experienced and consistent performers in the squad.
The no nonsense defender, who shows signs of flamboyancy, as well as calm and effective defensive skills in each game, has won over 100 caps for Jamaica and has captained both his club and country.
A Tranmere player of the season three times since arriving on the Wirral, the signing of this new contract by Goodison is no doubt a huge boost to Les Parry and Tranmere Rovers, with fans now hoping that striker Ian Thomas-Moore signs a similar deal.
Goodison has also recently been nominated for the North West League One Player of the Year, which he has won on two previous occasions in 2007 and 2008.

Personally think this is a great move by Les. Ian has shown again so far this season that he's still a class act at Centre Back, and it's much better to get this sorted out early rather than wait.
