Les Post-Match: "It's Individual Mistakes"

After yet another away defeat in which his side conceded three goals in the opening half an hour, Les Parry admitted that individual mistakes had cost Rovers early on as the home side stormed ahead.....
Following Saturday's 3-0 away defeat at Colchester United, Manager Les Parry was left to admit that the defending of his side had once again not been up to scratch and that individual mistakes had again cost his side dearly just as they had done away at Yeovil a fortnight ago.
Speaking to the Tranmere Rovers Official Website, Parry said.......
"We've gifted them three goals and we can't do that. I've just been saying to the lads that clean sheets are the holy grail in this division, we've got to keep clean sheets. You can't just give them three goals the way we did."
"We knew they'd cause us problems from free kicks around the edge of the area, so what did we do, we gave them free kicks around the edge of the area."
"We do our homework, we send Dave Philpotts all over the country to watch teams so he can tell us these things before we meet them. He tells us, we tell the lads and then they go and do that. Joss and Welshy both gave away free kicks in poor areas and we didn't defend them."
"Even if we'd have pulled two goals back it doesn't make it right. I'd rather win 1-0 than be beaten 4-3. We've got to get back to defending and doing what we do well and we know we'll get chances."
"I think it's individual mistakes. We give the players opposition players to pick up and then for their third goal somebody ends up unchallenged in our six yard box and somebody ends up unchallenged heading it back across. It's not rocket science. We've got to learn to do the simple things well."
"It's ok thinging about changes but you've got to look at who you're changing it to. We don't have a conveyor belt of players waiting to come through."
"We'll have a look at the DVD with the players tomorrow and we'll point fingers because it's not acceptable the way we defended today. It's happened for a couple of weeks and it has got to stop."

Is it fair to expect a 17 year old making his debut to pull of a superb display, especially when our whole midfield and defence was, well, missing.
On the other hand at least this time he is criticising his experienced 'captain' and Joss who has been a shadow of himself last season (can't blame the formation for that one, he shone in 4-3-3 last year..)

As Matt said above what he has said is the truth. We're not playing well away from home at the moment and lying to the fans is hardly going to make things any better.
It's whether he and the players put it right that counts not what Les says in his interviews - but that's only my opinion.
The only thing he can't be honest about, is saying we didn't play as well as we might have done, playing some players that earn up to twice as much per week as I can afford, because my chairman doesn't do much, to improve my financial situation.
A: He might offend some players, if they thought he was referring to them as absolutely worthless, which none of them are. Despite what some might think or say in response to that statement. It's my belief every player in the squad has some merit.
B: He'd give Johnson a headache, the size of the Pyramids shopping centre.
Yes he does tell players go out and win the second half, but realistically, it's better than saying, heck lads we're behind, just don't lose 6-0 and then watch as they lose 5-0, because they go back out on the back of a tame dressing down, that doesn't make them think they're capable of anything.
In the final reckoning, a goal or two in second halves, might be the difference at the end of the season, if goal difference dictates final places.
I don't really know what Les could say to a team, that is 3-0 down at half time, that might make the scoreline a little less funky, other than go out and try to win the second half and don't concede any more.
Frankly a Peter Reid style swearfest, ripping into players won't do much, as they'll probably know 3-0 down at half time, isn't much to be positive about, so kicking them where it hurts wouldn't do much I don't think.
Good players can make mistakes that can be avoided.Poor players make mistakes because they do not have the ability to avoid doind so
That's why premiership defences get ripped to shreads for clueless incompetence each week on MOTD.
It would be great for managers, if teams defended like the New Zealand World cup team every week, but for some reason, even players worth £10,000,000+ screw up and look in an instant, like they're just about good enough for a mid table pub team.
Thinking about it, Maybe Les should show his defenders DVD's of the defending New Zealand did, especially against Italy and the sublime slide tackle against Slovakia in the second half.
