Tranmere youngster signs his first professional contract

Article Header - Breaking News

17-year old Dale Jennings has put pen to paper on a two-year contract at Prenton Park, his first professional deal in the game.

The rapid striker made a positive impression for Tranmere during pre-season as he scored several goals in a number of matches that included first team players, and he continued his progression once the season, making his debut as a substitute for Rovers' first team against Charlton in September.

Jennings has now made six appearances for the Rovers first team and scored his maiden senior goal in the 1-0 win over Bristol Rovers at the Memorial Ground in late September, netting with a vicious effort from outside the area that flew into the top corner.

An extremely fast player with very quick feet, Jennings, who joined Tranmere as an U16 two years ago, scored 19 goals last season for Rovers' youth and reserve teams and is another example of the excellent work the Wirral side continue to do at youth team level, developing a number of youngsters into strong first team players.

Jennings joins the likes of Ian Thomas-Moore, Joe Collister, Ashton Taylor, Aaron Cresswell, Ryan Fraughan and Jack Mackreth as a Tranmere player who has risen through Rovers' youth ranks and signed professional contracts with the club.

Jennings' contract ensures that he will stay at the club until the end of the 2011/12 season at the earliest, unless another club should come in and pay a significant fee for the player.

This is superb news, for both the club and Dale. Long may his progression continue. Just hope that fans don't start expecting too much.

I don't think Jennings is the only positive this season. I think Showunmi, Cresswell and Collister have also been positives as has Summerfield as assistant, plus the versatility of Blanchard and the possible future of Stockton, given reports about recent youth team form.

Hopefully more positives may come when Broomes, Mahon and Taylor return.

I think you could also list the progression of Max Power and Will Vaux in that list.
The youth are progressing well this season even though they have had to play under 16's to fill the youth squad because of injuries and 1st team duties.
Broomes could be on the bench tomorrow and Ash is a few weeks away yet. Maybe a reesie game in the next couple of weeks.
