Mark Ridgway brings us a series of blogs this week with this, his first one, taking a look at what it means and also what it takes to be a fan of our beloved Tranmere Rovers FC............

Well it takes a tough character to follow Rovers put it this way, from birth you have to resist the high pressures of jumping on the bandwagon of the two ‘bigger’ clubs across the water, who will remain anonymous despite not needing too.!

Next you must be loyal, it’s the lows that make you appreciate the highs, if we lost a fan every time we lost after a trek down to Brighton or Yeovil we’d have nobody left.  Put into context however, it still all seems worthwhile when you beat Stockport on the final day and survive relegation.

Scunthorpe away in 2009 obviously defines mixed emotions, but a year on we sold out our allocation again…and a lot more besides!

You must also have a passion for proper football, we don’t kid ourselves that’s its always pretty to watch, but grinding out a crucial 1-0 win away at Gillingham is far more satisfying than classy football if it means nothing come May, for example Arsenal, not than I’m criticising their style of play.

Fans at Bristol Rovers

How many Premier League fans could say they feel a buzz from Chesterfield away, we live for moments like Danny Coyne’s last minute penalty save to send us into the FA cup second round.

As loyal as we are, it’s expected back into return, so when Rovers faith is abused it will come back to bite you, Sean Thornton never puts in a good performance at Prenton Park, we have long memories!

So when we’re travelling to Bury next Tuesday for the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy third round, I think all of us would agree that we’d rather be there than watching our team on Sky Sports HD in a game we could never dreaming of seeing live. No matter how hard times get the ‘Su’white army’ will always be following Tranmere.

Great sentiments in that blog there Mark and echoes Adrian Chiles in his book if anyone's read it (I can recommend it if you haven't).

In it he basically said that West Brom's 1-1 draw away at Fulham in the Premier League was worth ten of Man Utd's and he could never see Man Utd fans celebrating a 1-1 draw at Fulham in anywhere near the same way as the Baggies did.
