After his side notched another home win in NPower League One as Dale Jennings' 60th minute goal handed Tranmere a 1-0 over Plymouth, Manager Les Parry was delighted with both the perfromance and the three points....
After the 1-0 home win over Plymouth on Saturday afternoon in NPower League One thanks to a Dale Jennings solo goal on the hour, Manager Les Parry was delighted with his side who moved three points clear of the relegation zone....
Speaking to Tranmere Player, Parry said.....
"I know the headlines will
be about Peter and his saves in the last five minutes but I think that's
taking something away from how we played for the other 85."
"We were always going to
drop off at the end because we were trying to protect a 1-0 win. I
thought even up to when we scored for a 0-0 it was a really entertaining
0-0 with both sides having chances."
"Dale is going to be one of
those players who never scores a tap in. In the first half he could have
got a shot off on two or three occasions and decided he wanted to twist
their lads into the ground and it never quite happened. In the second
half he's done it on three occasions, nearly scored once, pulled one
back for Mendy and then scored the goal."
"He's always going to make
holes for us, as you saw in the first half Zoom got to cross the ball a
lot because they were sticking two men on Dale all the time. Dale is a nice young lad, a grounded young lad and we just need to keep him focussed."
"Peter [Gulacsi] is really
enjoying his football here and I think you can see that. The early save
was a great save, because he's not in the game yet and nobody is
switched on. The saves at the end, especially the one he's somehow got
his hand on and tipped over the bar, that was a goal all the way so he's
saved us a couple of points. Peter is with us until the 23rd of this
month."
"He's on a youth loan so we can extend it if we want and we're
monitoring the situation with Gunnar [Nielsen]. He's playing for the
Faroe Islands on the 16th and 17th so it looks like Peter will be going
back at the end of his period."
"I thought Welshy was man of
the match. It was a great five minutes from Peter, a great goal from
Dale but at the end of the day the game is over 90 minutes. I don;t
think you can fault his performance over 90 minutes. We can't afford
prozone, but I'm sure if we had it we'd see some great stats because he
just doesn't stop."
Parry also rued the costs tothe squad that the game brought with Enoch Showumni, Marlon Broomes and Ian Goodison all picking up injuries....
"It was an expensive game for us. Enoch has jarred his knee and it looks quite bad so we'll have a look at that tomorrow.
"Marlon has taken a knee to the hip and they're particularly sore so
he won't be training for a few days at least while we see how that
settles. Ian Goodison's shin is really swollen. He took a knee to the side of his shin so he's really struggling.
"But we've got a free week and there's no need to touch any of those
until Thursday or Friday so hopefully those four days will do the
trick."

Gulacsi is surely worth an extension. I would rather see him playing than Neilson.I would imagine that Liverpool are happy for him to be gainig experience
I agree with DevonExile that we should prolong the lone of Peter Gulacsi from Liverpool. He is the best goalkeeper we have had for sometime and he has improved with every game he has played for rovers to date.I would think Liverpool would be happy he is gaining football League experience which is a different kettle of fish than reserve football
I would like to see the loan extended! Peter made some great saves on Saturday and also against MK Dons the other week. Hopefully we can get the contract extended.
I wonder if the problem might be that Man C do not want any wages paid by rovers as long as Neilson plays and that now that he is fit he has to go into the team.
I am sure that parry would rather keep Peter but will P.J pay a wage if the alternative is free albeit weaker
Nielsen has said himself that he fully expects to return to City in January so where that will leave us then in terms of two keepers is anyone's guess.
Perhaps Daniels might be availabe again by then. I like him and thought he did a good job, but Gulacsi is a great keeper and I think he's a very worthwhile signing, plus Achterberg persuaded him to do it, because Achterberg works at Liverpool now, so I think it could be a good thing for him and Tranmere if he stayed.
I also noticed a guy at Preston called Wayne Henderson. He's been on loan to quite a few lower division clubs, so maybe he could be a consideration.
