Weather Report

A dry but fairly bitter cold afternoon at Prenton Park whilst the Prenton Park pitch is starting to show signs of the time of year, cutting up particularly badly at the Kop end penalty area, even before the game had kicked off.

Crowd

5,504 fans were inside Prenton Park with a decent following from the Southampton fans who had a very long journey to get to the Wirral and fortunately for Rovers went home disappointed yet again from their visit here.

Referee Watch

David Webb (County Durham) - The referee had a relatively quiet game but seemed to be having none of Southampton's penalty appeals including booking Lee Barnard for diving in the 18-yard area late on. The only question of the officials would be where the five minutes of second half injury time came from given that there were was just one goal and barely any sign of the Physio's.

Best Moment

Dale Jennings' goal was probably the best moment of the game although it has to be said that it looked better at the time from the Kop viewpoint I had than it did later on the TV although it was still an instinctive finish from the youngster.

Worst Moment

Marlon Broomes being stretchered off was a low point in the game given the recent injury to Ian Goodison and the post-match information from the Club suggests at least a two-month lay off for the centre-back.

Tranmere Man of the Match

Enoch Showumni - A difficult choice with Tony Warner fantastic in goal including a top class save in the first half and the midfield pair of Welsh and Labadie and defenders McChrystal and Kay having good games but for his overall work rate the nod goes to Enoch!!

Connections

There were no playing squad connections in this game but Saints Manager Nigel Adkins is of course a Wirral lad and was Tranmere's goalkeeper for a four years in the 1980's and is the Football League's other Physio turned Manager. 

Rovers Fans

 From a different viewpoint in the Kop for this game, the noise was decent at times especially after Dale's goal sealed the match for Rovers.

Southampton Fans

Summary

Entertainment Value

As a Rovers fan it was up there as the best home game of the season but even as a neutral I would suspect it was a great game to watch at times.
