Tranmere Team of the Decade – 2000’s – Left-Backs

The second of our new weekly feature which seeks to create the Tranmere Rovers Team of the Decade for the noughties looks this week at the poll to determine the best left-back to play for the Club between 2000 and 2009...........

For the next seven days, you have the chance to have your say in the second of our 12-part series which look at the best Tranmere Rovers team of the noughties.

Position by position we are giving you the chance to vote on who you think is the best Rovers player (2000-2009) and tonight we begin our second poll to find the best left-back of that era.

Last week the vote took place for the best goalkeeper of the Decade and John Achterberg was an unsurprising winner taking a massive 96% of the vote by the end of the week!  The question is though who will join Achto in the team next?....

The candidates for Left-Back are as follows.....

Aaron Cresswell

A product of Rovers' youth system who made his debut in November 2008 and has since gone on to be a first choice left-back under current Manager Les Parry as well as under former Manager Ronnie Moore for certain periods of his final season in charge at the Club.

Shane Nicholson

A two year spell at Prenton Park between 2002 and 2004 saw Nicholson play in a number of positions for Rovers inlcuding left-back.  After making 54 appearances for the Whites and scoring 6 goals, Nicholson moved on to Chesterfield.

Gareth Roberts

A firm favourite during the better times of the decade for Rovers, welshman Roberts spent seven years at the Club after signing from a spell playing in Greece having originally played in the Liverpool youth set up.  Part of the team that reached the League Cup final at Wembley in 2000 and subsequent giant-killing successes, Roberts was and always will be a fans favourite.

Andy Taylor

Having signed on loan for Rovers in late 2007, Taylor signed permanently two months later after turning down Championship football with Blackpool for the chance of more regular first team football at Prenton Park.  Netting 3 goals in 69 appearances, Taylor was a popular player with Rovers fans before he moved on to Sheffield United in the summer of 2009.

Carl Tremarco

Tremarco was another product of the Rovers youth setup and made his debut in the FA Cup win at non-league Hornchurch in November 2003.  Carl went on to make 52 appearances for the Club. mostly at left-back before moving to Wrexham in January 2008.
