Tranmere Rovers make the long trip to Plymouth Argyle on Saturday afternoon in N Power League One, so for all the latest news and match updates, and all the pre, during and post-match discussion, don't forget to check out our Match Discussion thread............

HEADERNEW - matchdiscussion

For those fans who can't make some of the Rovers games this season, particularly the high number of costly and time consuming southern away games, we at Total Tranmere will be providing a Match Discussion Thread on the Site for every Rovers game.

The thread will allow you to discuss everything from the pre-match build up and starting line-up to the game it as it progresses and the post-match analysis.

Where possible, Total Tranmere staff will post up the starting line-up and substitutes on the thread as soon as it is made known at the game.

Fans at Bristol Rovers

Tranmere of course travel all the way to Plymouth Argyle on Saturday afternoon in N Power League One so if you're not going to the game why not join in the banter right here while the game is going on.

Maybe if you have a friend or family member texting you from the game you can post their views here for others to see as the game progresses.

You could also use this thread to discuss other interesting scores throughout the league as well as discussing this game afterwards if you have been along to the game.

What you discuss below is up to you but hopefully it can all be focused on one thread to make it easier for everyone to use.

Admin staff will try and add the team and updates on the game on this thread where possible but these details are updated also on our Twitter Page throughout the game so if you're not following us already why not do so at www.twitter.com/totaltranmere.

a very good win indeed and with most of the other results going our way we have a little bit of breathingg space away from the bottom 4 now to get 3 points on tuesday which will be needed with some tough away games coming up.

Just back from the game and the result fairly reflected the balance of the game. Plymouth looked very weak and except for a ten minute period in the second half looked second best throughout the game. I was disppointed that Adkin was selected but his performance was o.k.The defence generally looked sound so it was a disappointment not to have kept a clean sheet Plymouth found Showi a real handful. We could have scored more but the goalkeeper was at fault with both second half goals.

Even so, a really good win and on this evidence Plymouth are in free fall. Lets hope that we can follow up with 3 points against Yeovil

saw the goals on tv dont think can blame the keeper for the 3rd goal enoch nutmegged him but could put it either side.

Agony, it was without doubt a good win but its only our 9th win of the season in the league against a team in total freefall and the fact that their not been paid wages as well cant be helping them, it doesnt alter my opinion we should have a new manager

Yes a new manager of the clubs finances, who could give Les the same kind of money to spend, as Sheffield Wednesday have (Sm7).

Tranmere's budget is arguably the worst in League 1, theirs is arguably the best. Lateef is one of a growing list of quality players Les got, the only reason players like Akins and McGurk came was lack of money and a need for enough strikers.

Playoff form requires around 53-54% of total points all season. Tranmere are currently on around 57% points from 7 games.

If the "players" had not thrown their 2 goal advantage away at Walsall and done what they should have done and scored a second against Rochdale, then 16 points from 21 would have been around 72% form, which is probably enough in a whole season to secure a top 2 place.

Lateef has just gotten 4 goals and and assist in 10 games which is a combined average of 1 in 2. He's starting to look as good as players like Robbo, Hume and Howarth did in the past.

If it was possible for Tranmere to orchestrate a pre-agreement deal as soon as possible, involving £1,500,000-£2,000,000 and Lateef in a partial player swap for Jennings, that would be fantastic.

Showunmi now has a combined goal and assist ratio of 14 in 32, so that's roughly a 1 in 2.3 average. Not Rickie Lambert quality, but good enough for me and he teed up one of the goals with his head, so finally his head comes good (Sm7).

I wonder If Tranmere had had a different manager this season if they'd have had the savvy to sign him, or just looked at his playing record for the last 2.5 years and written him off?

Quite a few fans wrote him off, but the fact he'd done well for Bristol City who are now a Championship side, proved his league 1 ability when playing for the right club.

Sheffield Wednesdays form is terrible. Last 7 games have given them 3 draws which is about 14% form.

Tranmere's current form at around 57%, is around 43% better than theirs.

I would have said at Christmas, when that postponed fixture couldn't be played, that Tranmere would have been lucky to get a draw against players like theirs, now I believe Tranmere on current comparisons, could get them at P P and win by more than a 1 goal margin, to the point where I would not even be that happy to get a draw now.

If Swindon lost their next game, Tranmere could be no worse than 6 points off the relegation zone if they beat Sheffield Wednesday and the way Swindon are playing recently, they're about as stinky as Sheffield Wednesday.

The only slight issue is whether Megson could kickstart his players form quickly enough to start actually winning very soon.

If he has the Dalgleish effect, (a near instantaneous form boost), he'll have more of a chance of beating Tranmere.

If he does what Kevin Keegan did at Newcastle, his chances will be reduced, because Keegan got a great run of about 5 straight victories, but only after enduring a 5-6 game losing streak first.

I believe Tranmere can beat Wednesday and I now expect the result, because despite their millions, Tranmere have nothing to fear and the thought of a team with potentially the lowest budget in league 1, beating a team with potentially the richest budget, plus home advantage, should be all the motivation the team needs to beat Sheffield Wednesday.

Now Les has had the wherewithall to get a few good quality players in since Christmas, that have all done well, he's beginning to get a few results, I believed he could get from the start of the season.

GOOD WORK LES. Just a pity the players let him down a bit against Walsall and Rochdale, but otherwise the man still defintely gets my vote.

Hopefully he'll help finalise the Kay deal and if there's a chance to keep Lateef permanently I want the club to do it, because Lateef is a crowd puller and Tranmere need that right now.

i suppose you think rochdale and oldham have much bigger budgets? its not just down to the budget look at the jobs these managers are doing on i bet not much more oney than we have.

Oldham and Rochdale do have more money than us. Rochdale also had the added influence of the confidence of a promotion behind them, something that is much easier to build upon than just escaping relegation. They also made big money from selling Craig Dawson to WBA and then getting him back on loan!

As for us - massive win yesterday. They will go down I think but our form is without doubt improving - just one defeat since New Years Day. If we can keep building on this there's no reason why we can't finish top half.

Fact is ...

Tranmere are over-achieving, heck if they finished 23rd they would be over-achieving.

Parry is a better than average manager in this division in terms of results, quite a bit better than average in fact. If we changed manager then the odds are it would be a downgrade.

Champ manager has got a lot to answer for ... its created a lot of deluded football fans.

We scored three goals away from home for the third time this season yesterday - the other two games being Bournemouth (lost 5-3 in the FA Cup) and Walsall (beat 4-1).

The last time we achieved this was the 2002/03 season when Ray was manager and we scored three away from home in four seperate games! Quite some achievement from Les

Yes, I played Championship manager in the past and yes I remember beating Boavista in the European Cup With Bangor City and losing to Arsenal 3-0 in the last 16 with Caley Thistle, after 3 consecutive promotions and 6 consecutive league titles, including McGreal in my squad as well, but I'm not deluding myself tongue sticking out smiley.

I used to mainly manage Welsh, Irish and lower league clubs for the challenge of taking smaller teams to greatness, though I did the Tranmere thing too. Best finish, mid premier league with Le Tissier. Tore Andre Flo and Redknapp in the squad. An early version I admit, and not reflective of Le Tissier's immense loyalty for Southampton.

Speaking of which, I wonder if that new Guernsey United could poach him out of retirement. After all Steve Claridge played for Weymouth and Matt's only 42 and Guernsey was his place of birth.

Whether or not Tranmere are over achieving. Here's to over achieving and long may it continue (Sm6) (Sm6)

Anyway back to the actual game....

Plymouth were pretty poor on the day BUT we did play well ourselves and it wasn't a case that Plymouth made us look good I didn't think.

A shame as mentioned above to switch off and concede and then sit back and worry the Rovers fans towards the end but a superb win and fully deserved on the day.

too many goals scored in the last 5 minutes of games,we need to close games out,but am still supporting Les he has done a great job with what he has to work with, the idiots who keep slagging him off should remember this is his first managerial job,we are in a better position now than we were this time last season, get behind the manager & team,no-one could do any better, the loan signings have been mostly good, players are coming back, remember the injuries we have had this season & we can push on from now,so support the club if you love it & stop belittling our achievements with long-term injuries & no money

Amen.

Look at John Coleman at Accrington. I think he has the poorest league attendances of any league club, but he's gotten multiple promotions in 5 years and if he has ever had one of the best budgets in any division, I would bet it hasn't been since the NPL days.

However he dumped Huddersfield out of the FA cup when he was in the Conference and if one of his players hadn't got sent off last season, there was a chance at 1-1, he might have done Fulham.

I'd actually say in all honesty, if Capello got binned, I'd say why not offer it to him, because his track record with a small budget and his people skills as a manager and former teacher, would be just what an international team needs and having never managed big players, I doubt he'd tolerate prima donnas.

If he can do that with a small budget, it shows what can happen and in relation to a lot of the players brought in by Les, most have been good and those who haven't are either because,

A: You need players like strikers and can't afford better ones, or to have a squad with too few strikers in it.

B: You trust parent clubs assessments of potential loan players, but like the smart guy you are, you get some on 1 month deals to make sure you're not getting inadequate players long-term.

It is stupid that people come on here after one win and say, "where are all the Les haters now" etc etc. My opinion on Les is based on the quality of football and results he has acheieved since he has been here, which in my opinion have been poor. If we get beat on Tuesday I am not going to say"where are all the Les lovers now" as its ridiculous to do so after one game.

On the Plymouth result i was delighted. Looking at the teamsheet before the game and seeing no Jenno or Robbo and Akins starting I must admit I feared the worst. It is so important now though that we build on this, a defeat on tuesday and this win will be pointless.

The polarisation of opinions about Parry seems wrong and no manager can be judged on a few results. Parry is not a managerial genius and he is certainly no Coleman (at least, not yet) BUT he is as good as we are likely to get and given the constraints he has not done a bad job in terms of recruitment. With our budget we will always be a potential favourite for relegation. If Les avoids this for a second season he will have done well.

I am far less confident about his tactical skills/disposition.Yet this is true of some managers at higher levels and with greater experience. I do not think this is ground for Parry to be replaced but it may raise questions about the balance of his management team.On current evidence he could do with someone more tactically adept

If people are to base their opinions on Les on more than just 'the odd game' as suggested above, then the right opinion would be that he is doing an OK job given the circumstances.

Put it this way, would anybody want someone like Dave Penney right now? 15 goals this season Hoskins has scored and they're bottom of the league and with 6,000 on average at the gate, they must have more money and be paying him more as well.

He's done worse than Trollope did.

I wouldn't necessarily have Mark Stimpson either, after two consecutive sackings in less than a year.
