Les Post-Match: "It Was a Poor Game"

Following today's home game against Yeovil Town which Rovers lost 1-0, Manager Les Parry was disappointed with his side's display in front of a bumper crowd who took advantage of a special offer of £5 entry for all supporters.....
Following the 1-0 home reverse against Yeovil Town on Saturday afternoon, Rovers Manager Les Parry was disappointed with the performance of his side and admitted that it was a poor game all round on a day when a bigger than usual crowd needed convincing to return to Prenton Park.
Speaking to Tranmere Player, Parry said.....
"Yeovil came here to do a job. They closed the defence and hit us on the break and it worked. It's not a criticism of what they've done, they've done a job on us. It was never going to be an attractive game because of the way they approached it, but you've got to grind out results. But to concede a goal like that is devastating."
"I don't think Tony [Warner] has really made a save but there's no column for chances, it's all about goals. I know the fans won't be happy with the game as a spectacle but there was very little we could do about that. They were turning us all the time and we needed to try to get the ball wide because that's where the spaces were. Enoch was finding it hard to hold the ball up because of the number of bodies around him so we needed to get it wide and we didn't do it often enough."
"It's always difficult when you feel as if you're banging your head against a brick wall. But some of them have got to look at their performances and ask themselves questions. We didn't operate as a unit."
"It's disappointing all round. It was a poor game, there's no way of getting around that. We've spoken about Tuesday and used the words 'freshening it up'. We've got Andy Robinson and Adam McGurk did well when he came on and showed a touch of class. So he's got a chance of starting as well."

I know McGurk could develop that experience, but I expected Morrow to come in ahead of Akins and McGurk in the pecking order.
If you want to allow your manager to buy strikers that end up bottom of the heap, why not just buy a second string Camell Lairds striker, get the same end result, but save money.
I also don't think Morrow should be given a chance ahead of McGurk because we paid for him!
I like Akins but of the strikers I would possibly go for McGurk first.
Also if we just bring in mcgurk for akins and still play 4-3-3 and hoofball it wont make that much difference, we should try 4-4-2 and pass the bal along the floor. 4-3-3 is better used when we are playing the better teams as it allows us to play on the counter
What utter rubbish.
We played 4-5-1 and without an attacking central midfielder in the three. To accuse Yeovil of closing the game and hitting us on the break is nonsense.
That mister Parry is what your line-up seeks to achieve.
It was never going to be a good game because both teams approached it extremely negatively.

Well no, you can't rank him higher because he cost money, otherwise he'd play every week ahead of free transfer players like Enoch, but in real terms, if he doesn't play he looks like a waste of money and unlike Sheffield Wednesday who can buy players like Gary Madine and then decide not to play them that often and try to loan Benny McCarthy instead, (a foolish notion), Tranmere have to justify the money they spend on people and Morrow is not justifying even 10% of the "nominal" fee paid for him, (whatever that was), like he should be.
Owens would have been a worthwhile transfer, but Morrow on reflection for me would have been a decent transfer on a free basis, but not on a cost basis, unless he gets regular games.
Plus paying cash for someone who then gest a one year deal, doesn't look very positive. Either give him a two year deal or forget about him.
Being on a one year deal means they couldn't even get scrap value for him, he'd probably just be shown the back door and thanked for not being a pain in the butt.
It's better for it to look like a waste of money than playing him ahead of someone who is arguably better than him?!
McGurk/Morrow situation is just so hard to debate because both have had little game time. Neither seem to be brilliant players but McGurk seemed quite dangerous when he came on on Saturday.
That is presuming Dale is injured though, and Robbo and LEA can play on the wings
As for the long ball, were outnumbered in midfield because were only playing 3 so the defenders have no choice but to miss them out as they are constantly losing the battle. Think we need to work hard for any kind of points this week week.
