Jason Koumas is Voted Left-Midfielder of the Decade

After another busy week of voting, the results are in for the Tranmere left-midfielder of the decade and in yet another landslide result, it's Jason Koumas who joins the other players who have so far made the team......

After a week of your votes, it has been decided that Jason Koumas is the best left-midfielder of the decade in our Team of the Decade (2000’s) series, becoming the fifth player to make the team.

As you can see from the poll results below, Koumas was the runaway winner of the poll winning a massive 92% of the vote ...

After coming through the ranks at Rovers, Koumas played for the Club between 1998 and 2002 and made over 100 appearances for the side before making a big-money move to West Bromwich Albion.

Jason's first full season at the Club was the 1998/1999 season in which he made 27 appearances and scored four times and in the next season he was of course part of the memorable Rovers squad that made it all the way to the League Cup final and also reached the fifth round of the FA Cup, making 29 appearances this time around.

The following season under the continued management of John Aldridge, Rovers continued their cup exploits, again reaching the sixth round of the FA Cup beating Everton 3-0 at Goodison Park and that comeback game against Southampton before losing out to Liverpool and Koumas of course scored a memorable goal in that demolition of Everton as part of a much higher 47 appearances that season.

Sadly Rovers were also relegated that same season and in the first season in the League below, Koumas made a further 49 Rovers appearances, scoring 13 goals including a hat-trick in the 6-1 home thrashing of Carlisle United.

His success and appearances in that season coupled with two goals in Tranmere's opening two games of the following season, earned him a £2.25m move to West Bromwich Albion in August 2002 where he spent five seasons including a loan spell with Cardiff City, making a further 100 plus career appearances.

A move to Wigan Athletic for £5.3m in July 2007 sees him reamin a Latics player currently although at the moment he is out on loan at Cardiff City once again.

Koumas has also made a number of appearances for the Wales National team both during his Rovers career and beyond.
