Sunderland duo expected to sign Tranmere deals in the summer
Tranmere manager Les Parry has today announced that the club have agreed permanent contracts with on-loan Sunderland pair Michael Kay and Robbie Weir.
The duo initially joined Tranmere in the New Year, with Rovers firstly signing Kay in January before Weir joined him at Raby Vale in February, with the Irishman signing after a successful one week trial.
The pair's contract both expire at the end of the season and their parent club, Sunderland, have already announced that both players will be released, with neither having made an appearance for the Premier League side.
Weir, 22, has made twelve appearances for Tranmere so far, playing in central midfield and at right-back and right-midfield, whilst Kay, 21, has made 16 appearances, looking particularly solid and winning numerous plaudits from the Tranmere fans.
With both set to be released, Les Parry has announced that Rovers have agreed deals with the pair which will be signed on July 1st, in time for pre-season.
Because Sunderland are releasing both players, Tranmere will not have to pay compensation for either player, despite both being under the age of 24.

I think the signing of both players is good news for the club. It almost certainly means that Les will remain in place. Given the ever ending merry go round that a lot of clubs seem to have got themselves into. I personally believe it is good news for the club in the short/medium term. There is lots of work to do, but as I have stated in other posts the squad is as strong as it has been for a number of seasons. If we can resign Warner, McChrystal and Showunmi for next season, keep Welsh and Ladabie then I believe we could get into the top 10 next season.
Weit and Kay are positive signings. Tranmere only really had Labadie and Enoch and after a few games Blanchard as positive signings, but Weir, Kay and hopefully Robbo, Warner and McChrystal will give a more positive outlook for next season than was achieved this season at the start.
Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.
Good news! I think these two have done well for us! I know Weir has his doubters but I feel he has played well for us so far this season and I believe he will win over his critics!
Tranmere need to sign good players of some age, because next season, reduced monies could see another fair old slew of under 21's coming in, Kay obviously being one.

Kay seems decent enough but I must be missing something on Weir. In the games I have seen he offers nothing, just chases shadows, he was particularly poor against Huddersfield. Hopefully though after a pre season with us he becomes better.
