Left sided player Bakayogo signs new two-year contract with Tranmere Rovers as squad re-build for 2011/12 continues...............
Zoumana Bakayogo has today extended his stay at Tranmere Rovers by signing a new two-year deal at Prenton Park, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2012/13 season.
The left-sided player joined the Wirral club in September 2009 whilst John Barnes was manager of the club, before signing a three month contract and making his debut in a 1-0 loss against Stockport, Les Parry's first game as manager of the Super Whites.
After extending his initial deal until summer 2010, Bakayogo stalled on signing a new deal with the club and this resulted in him missing the start of pre-season.
However, he eventually signed a new one-year deal with the club, though the length of time it took him to sign a new contract saw him frozen out of the first team picture for the start of the 2010/11 season, with Aaron Cresswell given first chance at the left-back position and retaining his place in the squad due to his strong form.
The Frenchman though forced himself back into the first team picture shortly before Christmas, and has been a regular ever since, making 29 appearances for the club so far this season, and scoring his first goal, a well taken finish, against Exeter at St. James' Park in March.
A former Millwall and P.S.G. player, the 24 year old has now made 63 appearances for the club, mainly at left-back, although he has also played at left-midfield and on a rare occasion at centre-back for Les Parry's side this season.
With a number of other players out of contract at Prenton Park this summer, including Tony Warner, Adam McGurk, Ryan Fraughan, Aaron Cresswell, Lucas Akins and Joe Collister, this is hopefully a sign from Tranmere that they are going to look to extend contracts sooner rather than later this summer.

I hope not Griff. Cresswell for me has been one of our best players this season and would be a big loss I think.
It's fantastic news that Zoum has signed a two-year deal though. It shows the club aren't going to dwell on players, they want to get them signed up ASAP. He's been a good player for us since Xmas and a two-year deal for him is nothing to be sniffed at.
Definitely good news, but it would seem Cresswell may be departing from what I have heard. I am totally with Matthew on this, although sometimes people question him defensively, he provides so many goals and chances with his deliveries that he really would be missed.
Would we be entitled to compensation if he were to go? I know we won't get any if he moves to Scotland.
cresswell will only go if a bigger club is after him and if thats the case we will still get a fee for him because we will definately offer him a new contract. hopefully next season him and adam will make a huge step up as they both have the ability to be championship players. as for zoom i have to admit i expected him to leave but am delighted he is staying as he can play in a few positions and is very reliable
Yeah, cressa would be a big miss, and i want him to stay. Wouldnt suprise me if a bigger club was already sniffing around him, and that is why zoum has signed for 2 years, because he will now become 1st choice left back again.
Hope it`s the start of other signings - Cresswell/ McGurk/Weir/Kay/Warner/Robbo/Jennings/McChrystal/Max Blanchard/Ash Taylor and even Akins going on his last few games but farewell to Mahon(who I think is passed his best) Broomes(who does not want to be here) and Sam Morrow(who`s that is it just a name on the team sheet?)plus their are others like Goody and Showunmi/ Labadie who may be all ready on two year deals including perhaps some in my wanted list above do not know who is on two years and who needs theirs extending if Les manages to retain these players and adds to the squad extra striker/midfielder/centre back(even Goody may not complete all games next season)it could be the foundation for a good team on wards and upwards because it going to be a hard league to play in next season.
why do people think Zoom signing means Aaron is going?.... no logical link there as there has, in several recent games, been room for them both in the team. I like the look of Zoom at full back and Aaron midfield in front of him - good partnership to be developed there
logical or not ! it was my first thoughts ! but hope we can hang on to him for the start next season ! need to get top price for him ! watched him for years and has great potential 1 and think he needs to move on to realise it !
Great signing, but Cresswell is a must keep. Of course Bakayogo might not necessarily have to be a replacement for Cresswell or vice versa, becasue if Jennings went for a chunky fee, You could then use both, with Bakayogo left back abnd Cresswell wide, as Cresswell's crossing ability and now some evidence of scoring ability, leads me to think he's slowly adapting into being more a versatile left sider, someone comparable to players like Gareth Roberts or John Arne Riise.
gettign a good fee for him would be okay, but keeping him is key. This current squad has quite a few players like Robbo, Weir, Kay etc, that can be resigned and compared ot the start of this season, would be great, as you will get stability, hope for the future and a more positive players being at the club, then was the case in the summer, as Enoch and Joss were the only ones signing. Blanchard came good, but just on stats and history alone, came from a hard to judge background and had not played as much as someone his age could.
Building around the existing squad is key and there is now evidence of a solid defensive structure including Warner and a team dynamic that should be preserved by not releasing too many people.
Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.
Brighton? To be fair be a good mover for him, not sure he would be a regular mind. I am slowly becoming resigned to him going. Its a massive shame if he does and would put and would spread a bit of negativity. Would love it if he stayed.
He is gone Les said four or five clubs are after him. The way the club is set up now all we are after is players to sign for us so they leave us and make us money. Money is good as long as every season we are not striped of the players that move us forward............................
Cresswell is definitley going, which is sad to see but he's going to bring in a fee for the club. Because of his age a fee will have to be paid. Its the same with Ash next year, he'll be sold to bring money in (if under current ownership) if not this summer. They rely on these youngsters coming through to bring revenue into the club. The amount of fans turning up proves they need to create revenue somehow. Chairman has short arms, long pockets etc etc....
Expect to see a flash of Max Power next season just like we have with Dale this year before he's sold
2 incredible players who should be in the Tranmere 1st team together
