Max Blanchard and Joe Collister amongst list of players released by Tranmere Rovers
Total Tranmere believes that Tranmere Rovers have today released four players following the end of the 2010/11 season on Saturday.
Frenchman Max Blanchard and goalkeeper Joe Collister are amongst those to lose their rolls at the club, along with young midfielder Ryan Fraughan and defender Nick Wood, who signed from Sheffield Wednesday in the summer.
All four players are out of contract at Prenton Park and Rovers boss Les Parry, who today signed a new one year deal at Prenton Park, has decided the players do not feature in his plans for the 2011/12 campaign.
Utility player Blanchard only joined Tranmere from AS Moulins in France in August following a successful trial with the club, with the popular 24-year old making 24 appearances during his time at the club in a variety of positions, including right-back, centre-back and central-midfield.
Blanchard wrote on his Facebook account earlier today "Not staying next year. Cheers to all the fans and my team mates, won't forget you".
Young 'keeper Joe Collister was a second year professional at Prenton Park after signing his first contract with the club whilst only a second year scholar when John Barnes was manager.
The goalkeeper impressed during a number of games for the, keeping three impressive clean sheets this season alone, but he was never given a proper chance in the first team and leaves having made only 14 appearances in two-years despite what many would class as obvious potential.
Midfielder Ryan Fraughan is a third year professional who only signed a new one-year deal last summer after initially signing when Ronnie Moore was manager of the club.
However, the 20-year old never cemented his place in the first team due to some inconsistent performances and is released having made 24 appearances, although he only started in six matches.
Finally, Nick Wood joined Tranmere after being released by Sheffield Wednesday last summer, signing a one-year contract after an impressive trial over pre-season.
Given the number 14 shirt, Wood too failed to cement a place in the first team and managed just twelve appearances.
Total Tranmere would like to thank the four players for the time they've spent at the club and wish them all the best for the future.

I can only assume the release of Collister is because the management think Andy Coughlin is the better (and taller) prospect in the long term and that they are cionfident of signing Warner on a full term contract for nesxt season.
Shame about Blanchard. Assuming Broomes isn't going to be with us next season I thought he would be a valuable defensive utility player. Les is seemingly gambling on Wier to do this cover job.
I wish all the best to Fraughan and Wood and just hope they don't come back to haunt us!

max hasnt been in the team for along time so no surprise really, he gave his all but really i dont think he was good enough and thats why hes gone

You need someone to be on the bench though, don't you?
Max was a tried and tested player, probably on low wages who is extremely versatile. He loved the club, the fans loved him and imo he was a decent player.
We're not going to have to find someone else to replace Max and the chances of doing that with someone on equally low wages, who can play in an equal number of positions and is as good as Max is slim.Stupid decision IMO, as is releasing Joe.
Others I'm not too bothered about going.

mmm.... see were Les is coming from, 7 released that didn't exactly set the world on fire, new contracts offered to the regulars, youngsters given the chance to break into the first team, we must remember though that this squad struggled in league one, so unless he makes some good signings, which will cost, I can only see another season of struggling.

I am sorry to see Collister go but the rest were to expected as they are too marginal to keep when there is the chance that new names will be stronger. I am surprised that Akin will be staying,whole hearted but mediocre.
The real conundrum is mahon. Parry has implied that he just lacks the legs now to contribute.If that is so then in any other field of employment he would lose his job on grounds of capability.Are we really to have another season of nothing.It is staggering that the best paid player has not given a minutes service this year.
There were signs towards the end of the season that goodison is becoming less mobile and I wonder if another season will be a step too far.I am full of admiration for the guy but can we afford sentimentality.
We have a core if all the rest sign new contracts.but we also need some new players as the overall squad is a bottom of the table quality. Releasing 7-8 is about right and cements the view that L.P is not bad in terms of dealing with signings. If only he could match that in terms of his tactical grasp

It`s a pity Max Blanchard has been released I liked Max would not set the world on fire with his skills but one think that enhanced his skills was his 100% effort and hard work in what ever position he played would have liked him to stay a further 12 months good man to have on the bench as for the other 6 out the 7 will not miss any of them esp Sam Morrow ??????????? who he .Also named were the ones who are in contracts and those he is(Les) trying extend contracts as well as Robbo and Warner trying tie them two as well the only one not named in dispatches was Mahon is he staying or going or perhaps something going on in the background to move Mahon sideways/staff upgrade or out of the door.

Les on radio stating budget the same as last year but the only plus thing is that other teams budgets will most likely be cut to the level of ours due to the economic situtation across the board

Agreed. Max and Joe could have beep kept. If Tony Warner signs Tranmere will only have 2 keepers, so I'm not sure what they would have done about that.
Broomes is a shame for me, but so be it and as for players like Morrow, Wood and Mackreth, they just weren't going to find their own place in the squad, other than bottom of the pile.
I'm happy McGurk was kept on after recent form, but Akins will have to make more of his potential. He perked up a bit when the tactics changed somewhat in recent games, but he'd had too many opportunities to impress before that and didn't get one goal or assist until Bournemouth away.
I think he could have been released too.
Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

would of liked max to stay, he's a good versatile player who can do a job in a few positions and there hard to come by.
joe goin is abit of a dodgey decision,fair enough if les thinks coughlins a better prospect but with the trouble we had with getting keepers in the first half of the season i'd have kept him to have 3 available keepers(thats assuming warner signs) unless he's got an eye on another keeper.
still not sure about akins,will be interested to see how he progresses,although i hope mcgurk starts in his place next season an gets the oppertunity that akins did.

This is a point I've made for the last six months. So many teams next year are going to be coming down to roundabouts our financial level, and with our experience of having been on a low budget for two years, we're in a very strong position, because we know how to build a squad and get results on it. Next year maybe we can push up the table ahead of the teams who are less financially aware.

maxi always gave 110 % when playing and can play CB RB CDM LB and joe is a better shot stopper than warner. He makes mistakes all the time.

I agree with the general opinion that Max should have been kept. I was never really confident when Joe was in goal but then again he was only young and was still a good prospect imo.
Its a joke Akins has been offered a new deal, he had two good games towards the end of the season, if that is enough to warrant a contract at Tranmere then god help us. Hopefully Robbo and mchrystal will sign, although fincacially don't think we can afford them.

a wouldnt say he has only had to good games he brings defenders in to him sometimes 2 of them when he is on a run so it leave someone like dale or enoch open and when he has space he can run with the ball at his feet well
a realy thought maxi would have got another a year he deserved it bristol away i can safely say he was the man of the match he threw himself into every shot thats the type of player we need

I agree with Jade,I remember people saying the same thing about Chris Malkin,some players can be valuable by distracting defenders away from the main strikers,I don't think you will find many people who did not want Max to stay,Collister I thought was a great prospect,look at some of the saves he made,he is only 19,& he didn't get a decent run in the team with Gulacsi & Warner coming in,but maybe he asked to go,I think we let so many players go to give us more money to offer Robbo & Tony,& Les has said he wants to strengthen the strikeforce,which is what we were lacking this season

saw a lot of collister in reserves as well as andy c. Joe looked iffy on a number of occasions.
Oppositon just have to drop crosses on top of him and he's no chance. Good shot stopper joe but not tall enough and nowhere near enough agility to bail him out.

Exeter have released Cureton? Didn't he score 17 or 18 goals for them this season? Same with McGleish at Orient! I know both are about 37 now but that's a great return.

Just re-read the page and it actually says Duffy, Cureton and Nardiello are nearing the end of their contracts, so they all could well sign new deals with Exeter.

Neil Kilkenny and Kevin McDonald were relased as well.
Kilkenny spent time on loan at Oldham a while back, but I suspect he'd now be looking for a Championship deal.
McDonald spent time on loan at Notts County, is 22 and has played over 170 career games, so very experienced for someone his age, including Scotland under 19 and 21 football.
I reckon he'd be a great signing, but depnding on County's financial capability, I also suspect there's a chance he would be a bit too costly.
He'd be a solid midfielder though nonetheless.

Is Mcdonald the one from Burnley? He has got awful attitude problems. If its the one I am thinking of he left a Burnley match at half time when substituted and watched the rest of the game in the pub.

if max hasnt found a club maybe les will let him retrial in preseason
