Goodison Receives International Call

Rovers veteran centre back Ian Goodison has somewhat surprisingly been recalled to the Jamaican international squad......

Tranmere Rovers' long serving defender Ian Goodison has been recalled to the Jamaica squad for their 2011 Gold Cup campaign in June 2011.
The defender has been brought back to the international stage by Jamaican manager Theo Whitmore, a close friend of the Rovers centre-back, and of course a former Tranmere player.
Goodison has not played for his country since a 3-0 World Cup Qualifying success over Canada in 2008, but he is still a legend in the Caribbean, having made 113 appearances for his country, a Jamaican record, as well as netting 9 goals.

He made his debut for Jamaica all the way back in March 1996 and played a key part in his countries qualification for the France '98 World Cup in France, the only major tournament finals the Reggae Boyz have reached so far, with the former Hull City played captaining his side in France.
The tournament, which takes place between June 5th and June 25th 2011, will see Jamaica come up against Grenada, Guatemala and Honduras in the group stages, before hopefully progressing to the Quarter-finals, semi-finals and final stage, where they could come up against the likes of Mexico, the USA and Costa Rica.
Total Tranmere would like to wish Ian Goodison all the best in this international campaign.

He's still one of the best central defenders in league 1. I don't know what competition he has for a starting place in the Jamaica team but I bet he plays.
Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

I'm a bit surprised because I thought he'd packed in the national team.
No he didn't. Tappa decided as he himself was too old to play that so was Pepe and basically retired him against his will. I think Tappa was trying to force Pepe into coaching there instead but failed. Followed by Barnes as "manager" who dropped everyone good for us! Fans were not too impressed and the fact Jamaica's defence has been appalling of late and there have been some disciplinary issues with some of the squad, the fans have been calling for Pepe to be recalled, an increasingly louder call over the last 6 months or so. Tappa has finally listened! He's also recalled Omar Daley & Tyrone Marshall. They will play, Tappa would not recall them otherwise. Looks like he is going all out to win the gold cup, probably because we failed to qualify last time round thanks to John Barnes "wonderful" tactics!!!
Why the JFF sacked Tappa and installed Barnes who failed in every way possible is beyond me, under Tappa we were about to actually qualify for the world cup 2010, The JFF wanted a big name instead, pulled Barnes in, made Tappa the reserve team manager and I think the next game we won having failed to qualify for the WC, and then the Gold cup by this time was after Barnes had finally been kicked into touch and Tappa rightly reinstalled!! Set Jamaican football back years those awful few months we were lumbered with Barnes *shudder*
Those worried he may not be back on time for the season, he's not back until mid July anyway, 2 weeks or so min after the competition finishes. As for worrying about his fitness, well at least he's not sat on a beach in Marbella sinking a few pints, he's actually training and keeping himself fit!!! There is a risk of injury of course but then he could get the same having a kick about with his sons in his back yard at home. And lets face it Pepe would carry on playing with a broken bone!
The man is buzzing right now, he's like a kid on Christmas morning and he has a renewed interest in the game because of it. You will benefit from that next season!!
As for me I'm happy for him, not impressed I will will now be sat watching some grainy live stream of the games at silly O'Clock but hey ho!!

John Barnes, dropping good players, managing a team with an appauling defence? Failing in every way possible?
Nah, football genius Barnes is!

I knew you could have sympathy over the Barnes thing - how many torturous months was he here?

June to October I think though, in all seriousness! 5 months that is, 5 months too long!
Remember when he took Goodison off one game
and the whole crowd booed.
