Cult hero goalkeeper to represent legends side Rovers for the first time

Article Header - Breaking News

Legendary goalkeeper Eric Nixon has been confirmed as the final member of Tranmere's Masters squad for their 2011 Mersey Masters campaign, replacing John Achterberg as the squad's goalkeeper.

The tournament takes place this Saturday at the Echo Arena, with Tranmere, who will be captained by Stuart Barlow, competing against Liverpool, Everton, Bolton, Wigan and Blackpool for the trophy.

This is the fourth year of the Mersey Masters, with Tranmere having dominated the tournament since it's introduction, winning all three previous campaigns.

However, with the likes of Patrick Berger and Stephane Henchoz playing for Liverpool and Ivan Campo and Jay-Jay Okocha representing Bolton, there's no doubt that this year's tournament will be more difficult than previous competitions.

Rovers, though, are strengthened by the return of John McGreal, who's been a goalscoring revelation for Tranmere's Masters side, who replaces Georges Santos.  Scott Taylor meanwhile replaces Paul Cook and Dave Challinor comes into the side for the first time in place of Shaun Garnett.

The full Tranmere side is as follows:

Eric Nixon
Ged Brannan
John McGreal
Eddie Bishop
Dave Challinor
Stuart Barlow
Scott Taylor
Kenny Irons

Don't think Ivan Campo is playing for Bolton anymore!

The Official Site is wrong as it was done before the news we had that Santos was indeed not playing.

They are waiting for Tim to be available before they change it on there but they are aware of it!

Eddie is definitely playing. I spoke to him last week and he said he'd "squeezed back in"
