Rovers to Face Seeded Team in Carling Cup

The Carling Cup first round draw takes place tomorrow morning at 10.00am and Rovers will face a seeded northern team when the draw is made after being unseeded following last season's finishing position in League One.....

Ahead of the excitement of the release of the League One fixtures for the 2011/12 season on Friday morning, tomorrow morning sees the draw for the first round of the Carling Cup at 10.00am and following the bottom half finish in League One last season, Rovers will be unseeded in the northern section of the draw and will therefore be likely to face a strong side when the draw is made.

Due to newly relegated Birmingham City having qualified for the Europa League by winning last year's competition, the format of the draw is slightly changed as they will recieve a bye to the third round along with the Premier League clubs also involved in Europe.

As a result of this bye, Crawley Town will host AFC Wimbledon in a preliminary match, with the winner of the match then able to take part in the first round.

As is now customary in the first round, the draw will be split into North and South sections with 17 northern pairings and 18 southern ones.
