Danny Holmes has today signed a one-year contract with Tranmere Rovers.

The 22-year old right back began his career at Tranmere, coming through the Club’s Centre of Excellence and youth team before making his first team debut in November 2008.

He spent two years at Welsh Premier League side The New Saints, making 57 league appearances and winning one championship medal and two Loosemores League Cup medals.

At the end of 2010-11, eight of the twelve Welsh Premier League managers selected him in their team of the season.

His contract comes into effect on July 1st 2011.

Manager Les Parry said: “I’m really pleased to be able to bring Danny back to the Club.

“His work ethic always impressed me when he was here as a youngster and he has now been away and got a lot of experience under his belt to come back to us as a better player.

“For the past two seasons he has widely been recognised as the best right back in the Welsh Premier League and I’m pleased we will be able to call on a player of his quality and experience.

“He’s a local lad, a fan of the Club and I know he’ll give us everything every time he’s on the pitch.”

Danny added: “I’m delighted to get the chance to come back and compete for a place in the team I’ve always supported.

“I can’t wait to get started in training later this week.”

It does not make the pulse race. It may be a signing that reflects our capacity to pay rather a belief that it strengthens the squad

Must be the start of high profile signings we are going to make resigning ones we turfed(Sm161) out two years ago. I shall reserve judgement for a while and hope he proves(Sm85) that he warrants the second chance but is this then bench mark that Les has to work with in I await to see what other gems that are destined for Prenton Park.(Sm156)

I would hope for more exciting signings coming in but he will add competition for a right back place with Kay, and I also don't think his wages will be that much.

Good back up at right back imo. Lets remember he is a tranmere fan and will give 100%.Maybe Les didnt agree with letting him go a few years back. By the way anyone know when the new kit will be released as my eldest wants to get it before we go on holiday at the end of next month?

It's the end of July sometime but not sure when!

Absolutely abysmal it hasn't been released yet!

As for Danny, I think he'll be no more than back up.

Here we go again. We make a signing and the grumble crowd come out.

So we let the lad go, but whats to say he hasn't improved since!

I mean, didn't Everton release Leighton Baines as a youngster... they then paid millions to get him back!

I am willing to give Holmes house room, because he deserves a chance to do something, but I hope for a signing or two of a more progressive type.

Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

Had different opinions on the situation myself... like many have on here... mainly because we had him on the books before... but then, if Les went out and signed one of the other defenders from the team of the season in League of Wales, I'd probably have the optimism that he'd found a gem... so........ I'm gunna reserve judgement until the start of the season!

The lad has in the last 2 years proved himself at TNS.
It probably has done him the world of good. If anyone has saw him playing for the welsh premier side would agree he has come on leaps and bounds!!

Give the lad a chance.. He is a local home grown lad.. Who WANTS to play for the club!!!

good signing imo,he's a local lad loves the club and has done well after he left, admittedly at a lower level.however am all for 2nd chances,if he was old i'd have said no but given he's still young and will give kay competition for the rb slot,(this will bring the best out of them both) good luck to him.theres nothing better than seeing our own lads representing us,so give him a chance guys!!!

also i dont think theres too many in our squad who have experience of playing in the europa league hahahaha

At least he will give us his best & try 110%,I have been sick & tired of players treading water at Tranmere,at least now we have players who want to play for the shirt, yes he was let go,but I didn't hear too many people moaning when we got Robbo back,I seem to remember he was rejected by us,like Richie Hinds & Alex Bruce who have gone on to play in the Championship. From all accounts he has improved a lot since he left, give the lad a chance & remember he is one of us

Alex was not rejected by Tranmere he was a loan player. Unless you're referring to him as a potential signing, that the club could have afforded but didn't pay put for.

Robbo went to Swansea, probably for more money. Same thing with Hinds going to Hull. Hinds became another Jason Price.

He went to a progressive, more cash rich club, so you can't really blame him if you know he could get a solid deal with a potential chamionship club, not a failed one that floated near the playoffs but hardly ever made it.

Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

robbo didnt go to swansea for more money, he went because brian little told him he would never play for the club under him after what he did

Question I'd ask is why only one year deal? Give him two what if his progression is so good that next year he will be poached and again we get no money?

Peronsally i think he is just cover for kay, he may turn out to have imrpoved and will be a regular during the season in which case we can extend the contract if need be.

Pretty sure Andy Robinson signed for Swansea pre-season of the 03/04 season (so before August 2003.) Brian Little didn't appear at PP till October 2003, they weren't even at the club at the same time?!?!

This says he played for Swansea on 25th August 2003 - [www.swanseacity.net]

And Brian definitely never arrived at TRFC until October that year

Danny has got a one year option on his contract, just like Mark McChrystal. This means if he has a good season, we can extend by one year without him being able to sign elsewhere.

I am glad we have a passionate fan/player who appears ready to take his chance.dont know the stats but it seems players dont mind coming back to rovers.Would it be cost effective to farm out the not so ready guys for a year at more reduced costto local clubs or should we be more aggressive loaning out during t+e regular seasons.
