Tranmere Rovers have today completed the signing of goalkeeper Owain Fon Williams on a two year contract.

The 24-year old began his career at Crewe Alexandra but made his first team debut for Stockport County after joining the Hatters in 2008. He made 91 appearances for Stockport and also spent time on loan at Bury before joining Rochdale last season.

Born in Caernarfon, Wales, Owain has represented his country at under-21 level and been included in the full Welsh squad three times.

Manager Les Parry said: “Owain has been our first choice target for some time so I’m really pleased to be able to bring him to the Club.

“Our Goalkeeper Coach Dave Timmins has worked with him before at Stockport and he comes highly recommended.

“He’s relatively young for a goalkeeper but he’s already made more than 120 appearances and was part of Wales’ most successful ever under-21 side.

“He fits the profile of players we want to bring to the Club being young and hungry to play at a higher level.

“I’m sure he’ll fit in well with the rest of the squad."

Great to finally have our own permanent 'keeper!

Last two seasons we've used far too many different 'keepers imo.

Collister, Nielsen, Gulacsi, Warner etc.

Be good to have a settled 'keeper!

Good choice. I'd have gone for him or Shane Higgs as the two best ones out there within potential budget.

I'd have liked players like Matt Duke or Ian Turner, but suspected they wouldn't be affordable.

Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

Age looks right, some experience, but why after 22 games with only a rookie alternative did Rochadale let him go. Was it perfotmances or amoney issue?

Could have been anything.

Slept with the Chairman's, Physio's Manager's etc wife. Though I seriously doubt that.

Had an argument with the Chairman about potential contractual arrangements and told him to go **** himself.

I'm not that bothered, because he's here now and that's all that matters.

Seen OFW play a few times for Stockport and the Under 21s, and he looks a cracking signing to me.

Made up with this signing. We need a settled keeper after the last couple of seasons. Well done les on securing Owain.
