Former Liverpool academy player signs for Tranmere
Tranmere Rovers have today signed 26-year old David Raven on a one-year contract, with the defender finally agreeing terms with the club after spending pre-season at Prenton Park.
The former Carlisle United player was released by Shrewsbury this summer after spending one season at the Greenhous Meadow, making just 28 appearances, the majority of which he made before Christmas.
Raven is actually completing a move back to Tranmere, having originally spent time at Rovers' Centre of Excellence before moving to Liverpool at the age of 14.
He went on to make only four appearances for the Premier League club and after spending time on loan at Tranmere in 2006, making 11 appearances as he helped Brian Little's side beat the battle against relegation, he was released by Liverpool and joined Carlisle, where he stayed for four years and made 154 appearances.
The defender, then, who can play anywhere across the back four, is experienced and gives Tranmere more strength and depth in their defensive line, something they've added throughout the squad this pre-season.
Raven goes straight into Tranmere's squad to face Chesterfield on the opening day of the season tomorrow.

To be fair trf4life, I'd agree with you there. I thought he was awful to start with but did get better. I'm not particularly happy with his signing as I think we're actually not that bad off for defensive cover, but he'll do a decent job.
There may well have been an improvement over recent games but it still seems an odd signing.Holmes is already providing cover at right back and surely we have bigger neeeds than an other full back. We could do with more up front. I also feel that we need cover in the centre of defence.Goodison must be in his last year and this might be the season that age catches up. In theory Holmes can cover there but he is essentially a full back.
I have never been a fan of raven but it is not so much a judgement of him but a feeling that given restricted resources taht we have greater prorities.
