Les Post Match: "We Did Our Homework"

After seeing his side win 2-0 away at Brentford on Saturday afternoon, Les Parry admitted that the scouting done on the opposition in recent weeks had played dividends on the day of the game......

Tranmere Manager Les Parry was delighted with the success of the scouting done on Brentford prior to his side's superb 2-0 away win at Griffin Park on Saturday afternoon thanks to goals from Robbie Weir and Andy Robinson in either half.

Speaking to the Tranmere Rovers Official Website, Parry said.....

"We watched Brentford a few times this season and they always try to play the ball out from defence.  But we closed them down around the edge of their own box and dispossessed them at least half a dozen times - we just didn't let them play."

"We also got our goals at good times in the game and the second one a minute after the break knocked the stuffing out of Brentford, and from then on they didn't cause us too many problems.  It was all down to the homework we did and two days training on closing the defenders down."

Meanwhile, Brentford Boss Uwe Rosler told the Brentford Official Website...

"You can always get beaten and you will get beaten from time to time.  It's the way we were beaten today that is most disappointing.  We didn't earn the right to play in the first half, we made bad choices and our confidence dropped too early."

"We didn't get the balance right between playing and being direct, something we did very well against Yeovil on the opening day of the season.  After the last home game against Leyton Orient, where we didn't do the job in the first half, we focussed on getting the two centre halves on the ball."

"They put us under pressure, I would call it semi-pressure, and we made the wrong choices with the ball.  After a few bad ball choices in the wrong area, we lost confidence very quickly."

"I have been here eight weeks and we have to expect and accept that we will get results like today.  When we have a first half like that we have to get to half time 0-0 and not give away a goal from a cross where we don't track the runner."

"If we had gone in 0-0 the game would have been different.  Their second goal then killed the game and the second half performance was a bit embarrassing.  We had chances and didn't take then, on a day like this you have to take those chances.  Tranmere deserve credit and they deserved to win."
