Parry Post-Match: " We Swarmed Them Second Half"

Following Tranmere's home defeat to Carlisle United on Tuesday night, Manager Les Parry insisted his side must start taking the chances they create in games to build on the good start made to this season.....
Tranmere Manager Les Parry was disappointed with his side's 2-1 home defeat against Carlisle United on Tuesday night and was left to rue missed opportunities as well as defensive mistakes that handed the visitors victory on a plate.
Speaking to Tranmere Player, Parry said....
"I thought we started the game well and even when they scored for another 15, 20 minutes we created a few chances. Then when there were a couple of incidents off the ball that seemed to affect us more than them. We were poor for the rest of the first half."
"Our strikers were working hard to close them down and make them go long. They were going long, our defenders were heading it clear and they were picking everything up and putting us under quite a lot of pressure."
"I'm not sure about the penalty, Ash said the lad said he slipped but it doesn't make any difference, the referee gave it."
"We created more chances in the second half but you've got to take them. I keep on saying there's no column in the league for chances, goals scored and goals conceded is all that matters. The fact we've swarmed over them in the second half doesn't mean anything."
"It would be more of a worry if we weren't creating chances, but once you create them somebody has to put them in. There were opportunities for Enoch to press on when he was breaking and he decided to check...whether that's a confidence thing I don't know but it's something we've got to work on."
"The aim was six points from two home games against Carlisle and Wycombe. We can't do that now, we can only get three and we've got to make sure we do that."

I mentioned a post a while back that we need an out and out goal scorer. some supporters (Matthew the Rover) dismissed me as being unappreciative of the goals scored by defenders and midfielders. This wasn't the case I'm glad they chip in with a few but I knew that goals from these areas will dry up, and they have! Is there any good strikers out there that we could get in on loan? We are an attacking team now and performances on the whole have improved but if we don't put away some of the chances we create then we are going to lose more games than we win! Top half or even the play offs will not be achieved without a goal score. We can "swarm" teams as much as we like it won't make a difference unless we put in the back of the net.
the others,simple plan made hard by the fact we do not have a proven goal scorer or a combinations up front like Aldo Muiry Nevin ect even Malkin who would contribute 15 to 20 goals a season a number that leave him as leading scorer these day`s a figure that John King would call Malkin as the shotgun and not the gun slinger, as Parry stated we swarmed all over them in the second half but if we had played all night last night the forwards would find it hard to score(bar the one from Akins & normally he misses any chance)Enoch was guilty on one or two occasions of over playing it taking the extra touch when running with the ball and in the end giving it to their defence instead of striking it first time it could of course have hit the corner flag but it may have flown into the back of the net it is all ways good to see mid field score goals
but it`s the first line of attack that should be leading the way with goals when you have the likes of an Aldo or Muiry
leading the line this takes two or more of the opponent`s defence out of the defence set up because their job was to shadow our goal scorers with are line up at this moment in time we have nobody that cause`s any major threat up front we need some one that would make Enoch the shotgun and some one to take the role of the gun slinger but with having no money to play with it seems the goal drought up front will continue it`s going to seem to be a hard season on goals we need a win on Saturday because I do not think we will get much from the Preston game.
However this must in part be linked to the absence of Robbo and Devaney. Two experienced, solid game changers who can make things happen, Robbo especially. I thikn at least one more goal could have been achieved with them playing and if that was the Yeovil or Carlisle games then more points would be on the board now.
However the strikers are an issue and frankly Les is running out of time to get an attacking midfielder anyway, because if he does he'll be getting one for about 2-3 games then having Robbo back.
Marcus Bent is still on a free I believe and seeing as Lisbie went to Orient maybe Goodison could have persuaded a fellow Jamaican to give wirral a chance.
A good loan striker might be a better priority now and forgo the midfielder, although tehre is a cost issue. Tranmere could potentially afford a midfielder for 4 weeks, but what about a striker for 7+ months, even on no more than £1,000 a week loan wage?
However they have the Cresswell money now, so perhaps things will change.
