Charlton Athletic v Tranmere Rovers Match Discussion
By Deadly Submarine
October 7 2011
If you can't make Tranmere's game away at Charlton Athletic on Saturday afternoon, why not join in the banter right here with other Rovers fans who are unable to attend......

For those fans who can't make some of the Rovers games this season, particularly the more costly and time consuming southern away games, we at Total Tranmere will be providing a Match Discussion Thread on the Site for every Rovers game.
The thread will allow you to discuss everything from the pre-match build up and starting line-up to the game it as it progresses and the post-match analysis.

Where possible, Total Tranmere staff will post up the starting line-up and substitutes on the thread as soon as it is made known at the game as well as a half-time report on how the game is going for the benefit of those who are unable to make it.
Tranmere of course travel to Charlton Athletic on Saturday afternoon in NPower League One so if you're not going to the game why not join in the banter right here while the game is going on?
Maybe if you have a friend or family member texting you from the game you can post their views here for others to see as the game progresses.
You could also use this thread to discuss other interesting scores throughout the league as well as discussing this game afterwards if you have been along to the game.
What you discuss below is up to you but hopefully it can all be focused on one thread to make it easier for everyone to use.
Admin staff will try and add the team and updates on the game on this thread where possible whilst there will also be our usual update service from our Twitter feed @totaltranmere so if you are not already following us it may be worth doing so!

just got to keep our heads
not fall asleep and if poss pinch another goal Baxter to add that one and that will do a 2-0 win come on you whites.
interesting to see Accy have a man sent off, then came from 2 down to get a draw with ten men !
Again another penalty appears to rob Tranmere, just like it has with County, Carlisle and Preston. That's an average of 1 point every 3 league games.
Keep it up and referees will cost Tranmere around 15 points this season, because they have not redressed the balance once with a penalty for Tranmere and at this rate Les will be doing a Moyes and carping directly to the FA about getting zilch penalties
.
I think now perhaps Les neeeds to explore the option of a loan striker though, or perhaps replace Labadie with Welsh, slot Labadie in Baxter's place and put Baxter upfront.
Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.
The referees will not cost us anything like as many points as the strikers[and others]who don't get their shots on target anything like as often as they should.

I will make my own judgement when I've seen the penalty.Have all of you who have already made comments on the matter actually been to the match.

Sounds as tho we're doing well !

Frankly he should be warned by the FA for admitting to the potential promotion and use of unfair gamesmanship.
I wonder if he will ring Martin Allen and ask for tips on cheating?

Yes Di Canio, went public and said he would tell his players to dive, because he didn't get a penalty he thought he should have in a recent match.
Frankly he should be warned by the FA for admitting to the potential promotion and use of unfair gamesmanship.
I wonder if he will ring Martin Allen and ask for tips on cheating?
Heard the bloke from Tranmere who guests along Radio Merseyside commentator.
He said a player of ours , knowing that there was someone behind, let his body go limp so he would fall on contact.
Is that what they do ?

Overall it was a fantastic first half performance and a deserved half-time lead against a side who looked awful for an unbeaten top of the table side.
Second half though we allowed them into and although the penalty is apparently harsh, they had the momentum at the time it was given and I actually feared that if the penalty went in they would go on to win as all our momentum had gone well before their goal.
As it was the penalty sparked us back into life and we could just as easily have won it as them by the end.
Just one point is the bizarre substitutions today. Firstly bringing Zoum (who I like) on for our best player Baxter and then taking off Akins (who wasn't having a great game admittedly) for a defender in Kay.
I know at 1-1 he wanted to defend a draw but as I said we picked up after the equaliser and the timing was bad. The final sub of Tiryaki for Enoch in the 86th minute was 20 minutes too late.
Man of the Match was Baxter but special mention to Ash Taylor, Ian Goodison, Enoch Showunmi and in the first half especially Joss Labadie.
Once again the Charlton fans tried to referee the game and for the second year running it appears to have done the job!
A great day out and a great point though!

Which word of 'Say it as you see it' has more than one syllable?
The other bit is what YOU said at 1523hrs during the match [not my reply] which also shows that you weren't there.
Yesterday was a good result especially with key players still out.
It should give encouragment for the Oldham game, which may define our season.A win following yesterday will be apointer that we are ateam that is beginning to take shape. More points dropped would in contrast suggest that it will bre a season of inconsistency.
I wonder what side will turn up against Oldham on Saturday? and will Robbo be fit for that match?

Still looks as inconclusive as it did at the time. Will wait for the highlights on Monday!
Looking at it on the BBC website this morning, it's still totally inconclusive-two Charlton players in a heap on the floor but no obvious movement from either/any of the Tranmere defenders next to them.
I think the point about us being better or more suited to playing away is a valid one. When the onus is on us to attack teams we struggle massively, and the fans get frustrtaed. This becomes worse when we don't have any cutting edge up front, particularly when Robbo is out.
If we had a real goal threat, and started to convert the chances we seem to be creating we look capable of finishing at least top half, maybe even higer. Unfortunately the struggle to score goals will cost us this season, as you cannot rely on the defence to constantly keep clean sheets.

Watched the pen ! three of them hit the dack at once ! can't beleive the Ref fell for it ! tozzer
