Accrington Stanley v Tranmere Rovers Match Discussion
By Deadly Submarine
October 11 2011
If you can't make Tranmere's game away at Accrington Stanley on Wednesday night, why not join in the banter right here with other Rovers fans who are unable to attend......

For those fans who can't make some of the Rovers games this season, particularly the more costly and time consuming southern away games, we at Total Tranmere will be providing a Match Discussion Thread on the Site for every Rovers game.
The thread will allow you to discuss everything from the pre-match build up and starting line-up to the game it as it progresses and the post-match analysis.

Where possible, Total Tranmere staff will post up the starting line-up and substitutes on the thread as soon as it is made known at the game as well as a half-time report on how the game is going for the benefit of those who are unable to make it.
Tranmere of course travel to Accrington Stanley on Wednesday night for a second attempt at beating Stanley in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy so if you're not going to the game why not join in the banter right here while the game is going on?
Maybe if you have a friend or family member texting you from the game you can post their views here for others to see as the game progresses.
You could also use this thread to discuss other interesting scores throughout the league as well as discussing this game afterwards if you have been along to the game.
What you discuss below is up to you but hopefully it can all be focused on one thread to make it easier for everyone to use.
Admin staff will try and add the team and updates on the game on this thread where possible whilst there will also be our usual update service from our Twitter feed @totaltranmere so if you are not already following us it may be worth doing so!

If you do not already have an account Click here to Register.

I do not know how long the transfer window is open for loan players but Les we need a proven striker now or at least in January just look at our goals for tally in the league 12 goals out of 12 matches played it is NOT GOOD and going on that average we will lose more games than we will win it needs sorting out we did have a little money come in with Jennings and Cresswell sales so something might be in the pot.
Any least we had a result in the end but I think some fine tuning in the goal scoring dept. asap

After listening to the second half it seems Accrington had several headers and shots that hit the post or crossbar so we managed just to hold out with the 1-0 win but it is not the fact that Accrington had these chances these things are part of the game it is the fact that we can not score plenty of chances seem to go begging and the only one to find the net is Ash Taylor better teams than Accrington will punish us.

"better teams" Like Charlton, another away trip and plenty of attack on the oposing goal ! it'll come ! don't think we need to put another person in to poss disrupt and unsettle the lads
I think it's all coming together nicely, lost one in the last 5, scored 5 conceded 3, 3 away 2 home ! I'm happy with that

I am still wondering if he'd use Baxter upfront as Baxter is claimed to be a striker too.
Good result, but definitely a loan striekr might be worht exploring. Although having said that, if two big middle players had not been out for a while now, Tranmere might have gotten another 4-6 points and people would be a bit less concerned about goal tallies.
Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

How did Accrington's number 9 miss?

First half we didnt do to bad and really didnt allow Accringtoninto the game, could and should have taken the lead when Muzzy found himself clean through albeit at an angle took one touch to many and the defender managed to block. There was also another good chance not sure if it was to Akins or Ladabie clean through and blasted at the keeper. We continued to apply pressure and it was no surprise when the goal came. A goal mouth scramble and Taylor was in the right place at the right time to lash home.
Half time pretty poor, NEVER been to a lancashire ground that doesnt have pies! Nice touch with the little beer hut though.
Second half was depressing. we resorted to long ball football and got dragged down to Accringtons level. Accy began to apply real pressure hitting the cross bar and post in the same incident, how it didnt go in was a wonder to all. Accy continued to push forward and had another good chance blasted over just before the end.
A couple of players looked like they took knocks in particular Akins (who looked dangerous whenever he got the ball to feet) and Bakayogo.
Credit where it is due to the stewards and staff at Accy, a very friendly bunch and did their jobs with common sense. Credit also due to the Accy fans who did their best to create an atmosphere. Travelling support was silent for the entire game which was a bit of a shame.
Most worrying for me was the fact we get the ball in some good positions but our final ball often is dreadful and flies over the entire box. We also lack any killer instinct. Muzzy is a willing runner but will not get into double figures this season and Enoch is never going to be prolific. Accy could and should have been put to the sword but we made real hard work of it, still a wins a win and we are through to the next round.

On JonnyL's point about the lack of pies it's even worse when you realise Accrington is the home of Holland's pies. They must be in debt to the pieman. I was with a friend who knows the Accrington stewards/backroom staff. I think they're struggling really bad as unfortunately some of them were laid off this week. At least things aren't that bad at Prenton Park yet.
Well done to Ash. He was my MOM for his solid defending and taking his goal well. He looks to be back to his best or maybe better than I've ever seen him play. Also I didn't realise at the time but we scored when zoom was off for treatment.
Fingers crossed for better finishing on Saturday.
I don't think our forwards have the ability to take chances, no matter how many we create.
But even if we bring a striker in on loan will we change to 4-4-2 at home where we so need it to help imrpove our results?

Sounds like same old same old in our attacking play. Les really is starting to sound like a broken record as well "Its important we start taking our chances". Same speech after every match.

and they are 'our' stikers and the ones who will ! no one else is going to ! so y not get behind them instead of having a pop at them !! still think we're doing well !
Quote:I've seen Les in action ! he aint the answerRicci
We have one of the worst scoring records in the division, so I think it is right to question our forwards. Yes I do think it is important what he said, but saying it and doing something about it are two different things.
