Tranmere Rovers v Oldham Athletic Match Discussion

If you can't make Tranmere's game at home to Oldham Athletic on Saturday afternoon, why not join in the banter right here with other Rovers fans who are unable to attend......

Article Header - Match Discussion

For those fans who can't make some of the Rovers games this season, particularly the more costly and time consuming southern away games, we at Total Tranmere will be providing a Match Discussion Thread on the Site for every Rovers game.

The thread will allow you to discuss everything from the pre-match build up and starting line-up to the game it as it progresses and the post-match analysis.

Stadium - Tranmere Rovers (Day)

Where possible, Total Tranmere staff will post up the starting line-up and substitutes on the thread as soon as it is made known at the game as well as a half-time report on how the game is going for the benefit of those who are unable to make it.

Tranmere of course host Oldham Athletic on Saturday afternoon in NPower League One so if you're not going to the game why not join in the banter right here while the game is going on?

Maybe if you have a friend or family member texting you from the game you can post their views here for others to see as the game progresses.

You could also use this thread to discuss other interesting scores throughout the league as well as discussing this game afterwards if you have been along to the game.

What you discuss below is up to you but hopefully it can all be focused on one thread to make it easier for everyone to use.

Admin staff will try and add the team and updates on the game on this thread where possible whilst there will also be our usual update service from our Twitter feed @totaltranmere so if you are not already following us it may be worth doing so!

Good solid performance. Would have liked more goals but much better than the 1-2 result from last season. Akins MOM for me with Baxter running him a close second.
Special mention for the lads at the back of the kop who didn't shut up for the whole match. Nice one guys!
Bring on Walsall

played some decent football at times. Akins MOM for me. He looks so awkward and seems to stumble his way past players but he does it so often it must be a skill. An exciting player who's come on in leaps and bounds since last season. Excellent result just wish there were more there to see it.

Well done to the team on 3 hard earned solid and deserved points.I enjoyed the second half but the first half was dire-the goal being the only good bit about it. I am astonished at Parry's comments re the first half.Hard to pick out a MOM for us-theirs in my opinion was Mvoto who had Enoch in his pocket for most of the game.

Solid result. Les saying after the game though the team don't need to be getting 3 in a game or words to that effect is a true to some extent, but if they had nailed 3 or even 4 past someone this season, like they did last season, they would look like a team that could have gotten a 2-2 with Huddersfield and beaten Yeovil and Bournemouth and they would probably top 5 now and 3 points of second.

However not having Robbo and Devaney has played its part in that I think it's unqeustionable.

Good ot say Ash Taylor is becoming more solid and chipping in with a goal or two. when McChrystal comes back he'll get some competition now I think and with Bakayogo and Kay in the squad the dfesnvie lines have some good strength in depth, because if Tranmere have to survive mostly on draws and pinched wins they will need it.

8 points out of the last 5 now, which is pretty good and if that was all season, it would be a 1.6 points a game average and around 74 points, which is playoff form, so things are still looking pretty good, though an extra goal hither and thither wouldn't go amiss (Sm7).

Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

A decent enough game without being spectacular but was good to get one over them at last.

A few close things near the end but i thought we were just the better team and deserved the 3 points.

MOM for me was Baxter he has got vision time on the ball skill and the pass in the 2nd half to enoch was fantastic.

Akins without doubt MOM. We're improving with every game which is a good sign as we come into the second half of the season. What was even better about yesterdays match was the atmosphere. The crowd got behind the team which is something I haven't seen in a long while.

the only thing disappointing for me yesterday was the crowd which as there was near 1000 away fans was very poor.

The crowds are down a bit thus season which is a pity given we are playing better football. Having said that I think we still had the third or fourth highest in league one yesterday so its not just us and financially we should be competing with a lot if clubs in the division .

Played well at times yesterday, was impressed with Akins who keeps getting better with every game. Special mention I believe also should go to Baxter who is absolute quality and his touch and vision really helped us yesterday. Only problem with him is that he tires quickly due to lack of fitness but I believe once he is fit, he will be outstanding.

Even though we have dropped a few points at home recently, it's interesting that for some games we are turning the results around compared with the previous season. We lost that game last term, but this time we won it. Shows how much progress we have made

Can i also congratulate the moron Oldham fans who booed Ian Muir during the half time draw because they thought it was Ian Moore. I know our PA isn't great but there was absolutely no need.

It was definitely a win that was ground out, but I felt we shaded it and deserved the 3 points. We got a bit too deep second half and invited them onto us, but I suppose that is natural. I wish les would have made a change earlier though, there were a few of our players clearly knackered with around 10 minutes to go, and we needed to freshen things up.

It would be brilliant if we could build on this with another home win on saturday. Hopefully the injured trio are closer to playing now as well.

Good result to get one over Oldham makes a nice change but as for the size of the crowd this will not improve until we start scoring goals a 1-0 score line may be good for the points but not good for headlines, part of the whole picture is one not to concede any but to end up by scoring two or three(or more perhaps not in all games but some of them)than the opposition this then gives the crowd what they want to see GOALS this might then encourage past fans to return to Prenton Park and if we can keep it up get into the top six and stay there, not only that those extra goals would help me and those around me in the stand to enjoy and relax and watch the game pan out to victory instead of us being like nervous(Sm124)(Sm123)(Sm95)(Sm97)wrecks watching the opposition push for that equalizer or even worse(Sm43)a winner.
So come on Les lets see if we can work on more goals starting on Saturday against Walsall perhaps when Robbo and Devaney are back in the frame goals may come from them, come on you Whites onwards and upwards(Sm132)

I hope we got a 1 yr renewal option on the contract Akins signed in July. His behaviour in the summer suggests he'll jump ship at the first opportunity if not tied down.

Apparently he's going to put them on the bench when they're fit!!

I am still astonished at his remarks about the first half last Saturday and his subsequent comments re how good he thought the performance was against Oldham.

Well in fairness, if you've got players playing well, you can't necessarily say oh now Robinson is fit gain, let's just dump someone. If the team were giving away too many balls in the middle and were 4 or 5 points worse off, yes Robinson and Devaney would look like vital selections, but have any middle players been too off form, you'd automatically ditch one as soo nas possible?

Personally I can see Les's point. Robinson will become usable again, but I'd be inclined to phase him and Devaney in in 30-45 minute spells initially and in some reserve games, to assess if they have been affected in any way by the injuries.

Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

What's all this slagging off Muzzy about!!

I personally think he should be given a run in the first team in place of Showumni. He holds the ball up extremely well, heads the ball well and has a decent shot on him. The way Enoch has been playing recently, I think he should be given a chance.

Tiryaki did score against Accrington but sadly it was scrubbed in lieu of the circumstances.

I doubt that would have boosted his confidence much.

Plus he gets sporadically used as well. At this rate he'll become another Sam Morrow. Someone who might have gotten some form with a good 4-6 starts in a row, but will have little to no chance otherwise.

I wonder how anyone can look like a potentially consistent scorer, starting for 60 minutes, then a few games later after no more first team football, getting 30 minutes off the bench. He's not even had 3 in a row starts wise and Enoch is looking a bit off colour this season, so why not persevere with Tiryaki, for 3-4 straight games at least.

The way the team is managing to cobble together mostly draws and wins this season, it certainly wouldn't cause the team to suddenly get 3 straight defeats, because he's not a middle or back player, that might give the ball away too much, or man mark poorly.

Also considering on the You Tube footage I saw, he likes to run at people, in the way someone like Ian Rush did, as opposed to being in the right place at the right time, in the way players like Mark Hughes or Aldo did, stick him in Baxters position, where he might get another 10-15 yards, to wiggle and worm his way into the 18 yard box.

Oh and before anyone comments on the aforementioned big names, no overall skills comparison implied visa vie Tiryaki, just preferred method of attacking the goal.

Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

Finding a goal scorer at this level is always going to be hard. The problem with both Enoch and Tiryaki is they don't get themselves into positions where they have a chance of scoring. On more than one occasion against Oldham a perfect ball came into the box and Enoch was either outside the box or wandering around out wide. As Aldo said when asked how he scored so many goals. "I stood near to the goal and put the ball in the net."

How is Tiryaki meant to get into a goalscoring position if he is only given 4 minutes on the pitch per game (Sm164)

Think you'll find that the ball by Zoum was not perfect, it was just behind Tiryaki so he had to adjust his body to get behind to put it in the net.

He also got himself into a goal scoring position, Enoch probably would have still been gasping for air on the edge of the box.

Regardless if the ball hit Tiryaki or he controlled it

in the six yard area of the box it does not matter the fact he was in the area in Walsall penalty area to put the ball in the net, players of that ilk like Miury and Aldo both of them have scored many great goals but also managed a fair share of tap ins like Tiryaki goal on Saturday please note I am not putting Mustafa in their league of Tranmere`s great goal hero`s but if he has a more prolonged run in the team rather than cameo appearances for the last ten or so minutes in the team he may go on to score more and I for one do not care if he scores from twenty yards out or it hits his knee and goes in providing he gets into the positions to score and if in the long run scores with the same ratio of goals to matches as Muiry and Aldo did in the past all of us super white fans would be made up because it has been a long time since we have had a striker of note, hopefully Tiryaki can fill that role providing he is given that chance only time will tell.

i dont support city so why would i comment on that ???????? just because a player pulls on a white shirt does not mean he is good enough to do so ! We all have our favourites but this guy is seriously not a footballer and it will show in the season trust me !!! One flukey touch and everyones on the tiryiaki bandwagon (Sm49) my ass !!!!

It's his first ever season at a professional club it'll take some adjusting and he's been twice the player Enoch has in the little time he has played.

You said ITM is a 'proven goalscorer' yet in his first 3 seasons as a pro he managed just twelve goals from 41 starts.

Thats 1 goal every 3.4 starts.

Tiryaki's ratio is 1 in every 3 starts.

I didn't ask you to comment on it.I was just comparing the fact that nobody says anything against City's fourth goal but you do against ours.Having seen it again on Granada Reports I would say that Tiryaki had much more control of the ball with his goal than Djeko did with his first one.

Re: Tranmere Rovers v Oldham Athletic Match Discussion

Moore would have probably gotten some assists, so his ratio could have been under 1 in 3 for goals and assists, wich I personally would think acceptable, but I can't really remember much about long ago assists, truth be known.

Tiryaki could come good with more pitch time, ut cureently expecting much with fits and spurts football is wishful thinking. I agree if he had 4-5 full games and looked average he would prove his inability to add much to the team, but writing him off in current circumstances is a bit harsh and until he gets more and elongated pitch time, he will not be able to prove how much or how little Tranmereness he actually has.

When people had a go at Akins last season (despite him not showing as much promise as Tiryaki this season) you would have had a fit.
