Breakfast Fun at Tranmere for Children in Need

This morning saw the Tranmere Rovers first team squad’s regular  Friday morning breakfast take an unusual twist in aid of Children in Need......

Today saw a squad breakfast with a difference at Prenton Park as the regular first team squad Friday morning breakfast became a totally different affair in aid of Children in Need.

Each week a player is selected from Thursday’s training session to prepare tea, toast, crumpets and cereal for the rest of the squad before their Friday pre-match meeting.   However, this week Rovers captain John Welsh was joined in the kitchen by Chief Executive Mick Horton in full chef’s uniform while office staff served the players dressed as Hilda Ogden style tea ladies in a specially decorated canteen.  

With the players and coaching staff paying for their breakfast and office staff paying to wear casual clothes, the morning’s fundraising efforts were topped off by a cheque for £2,500 from the Johnson Foundation presented by the Tranmere Rovers Chairman Peter Johnson.  

Chief Executive Mick Horton said...

“Normally the players bring tea and toast down to the office so we thought we should do something different for Children in Need and have the staff bring it to them."

“It’s a bit of fun, the players all enjoyed it and the most important thing is the money we’ve raised for a very worthwhile cause.”

Rovers captain John Welsh added........

“Anything for Children in Need is brilliant and the lads are happy to help.  Plus it was nice to have a bit of help from Mick in the kitchen."

“I’ve got all the lads to sign the Children in Need apron I had on and that’s going to be auctioned to raise money too.”
