If you can't make Tranmere's game at home to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday afternoon, why not join in the banter right here with other Rovers fans who are unable to attend......

Article Header - Match Discussion

For those fans who can't make some of the Rovers games this season, particularly the more costly and time consuming southern away games, we at Total Tranmere will be providing a Match Discussion Thread on the Site for every Rovers game.

The thread will allow you to discuss everything from the pre-match build up and starting line-up to the game it as it progresses and the post-match analysis.

Stadium - Tranmere Rovers (Day)

Where possible, Total Tranmere staff will post up the starting line-up and substitutes on the thread as soon as it is made known at the game as well as a half-time report on how the game is going for the benefit of those who are unable to make it.

Tranmere of course host Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday afternoon in NPower League One so if you're not going to the game why not join in the banter right here while the game is going on?

Maybe if you have a friend or family member texting you from the game you can post their views here for others to see as the game progresses.

You could also use this thread to discuss other interesting scores throughout the league as well as discussing this game afterwards if you have been along to the game.

What you discuss below is up to you but hopefully it can all be focused on one thread to make it easier for everyone to use.

Admin staff will try and add the team and updates on the game on this thread where possible whilst there will also be our usual update service from our Twitter feed @totaltranmere so if you are not already following us it may be worth doing so!

tiryaki ahead of enoch and devanney on the bench.

we need to stop the slide and get back to winning ways, first goal will be crucial im going for a 1 1 draw

Few points to start.

With all their money and 'proper manager' what an awful footballing team....Every player about 6ft 5 and hump it to ogrady/get a set piece is all they have...

Worrying the number of goals we are conceding from set pieces.

We need a plan B from the goal kicks instead of pumping it to akins on the wing...but do we have technically good enough players to play it out from the back??

We had chances Baxter played in by akins the key moment.

The 2 footed tackle on weir in the 1st half....did baxter not get a 3 game ban for v similar and there lad didn't even get a ticking off???

Overall tough game they had a good work rate which we matched, didn't get the wide men in the game enough and think devaney should have come on for robbo sooner to give us some pace...Need to find a way to get the ball down on the deck when playing teams like today who just go through the air... Thought we did ok very tight game but need to get a result in the next game big time. MOTM for me Weir (great energy and work rate hassling them and putting himself about)

Absolutely spot on with that, I actually thought it looked worse than Baxter's. Could easily have seen red and I can't believe we never even go a free-kick!

Robbie Weir nearly killed one of their lads in the second half too!

We need a plan B full stop.We outplayed them in the first half and deserved to go in ahead but a poor headed clearance fell to their player on the edge of the box and his daisy cutter made it an undeserved 1-1.Baxter was a class above everybody else in the first half.

But they changed things around and for the first 15-20 minutes of the second half they totally dominated the game. What worked for us in the first half by and large didn't in the second half.Baxter found things more difficult although his excellent move with Akins was the high point.Robbo also played well.Their number 10 was excellent in the second half.

But we didn't adapt to their change in tactics and ultimately a second defensive error cost us the game.
We at least deserved a point, were tons better than last week. We gave it a good go but it wasn't quite good enough.

As for the tackle on Weir, the ref didn't even give a foul so he couldn't card him. There were mixed views around me. Some thought it was two footed, others that it was one footed and one person thought the Sheffield player got the ball first.

We were the better team in the first half without hitting top form and didnt to get to half time a goal up but couldnt.

The second half they started so quick and for about 20 minutes were totally dominant, we had weathered the storm but i still felt they would score at some stage.

An improved performance but thats 5 games without a win, we really need to beat a struggling Exeter next week to get the season back on track.

Weir and baxter were the best players for me.

Needed Ladibe earlier on the 2nd half, they overpowered us and were very very fast on the attack. Needed a bit of grit in the midfield to calm them down, i think drop welsh for ladibe. And stop just expecting Akins to cross them in, the amount of lost hoof balls up to him were a joke. Its annoying as we can play well when the balls on the pitch. And drop Raven for Mcrystal or kay hes utter crap!

An other defeat but miles away from last weeks game in the cup this one should have ended 1-1 we shaded the game in the first half they were on a high after pulling the goal back just before half time and in the end pinched it with their second
But if we can play like that in other games we will draw or win more than we lose.
Only two main gripes second half we got into the habit of defending too deep and in time leads to conceding a second goal.
Why oh why does Fon Williams still keep kicking the ball out to wing(seems to be left side mostly) were it goes out of play 90% of the time and ends up with the opposition gaining a throw in and the ball which leads to another attack on many occasions all the player drift over to one side of the pitch waiting for this hoof ball to the wing surprise(Sm124)all one day and throw it out even kick it to the other side of the pitch their were times Akins or Robbo were standing like Billy no mates by them selves waiting for the ball.
But for some reason even when we kick off at the start of a game or the keeper(Fon Williams) pumps the ball up it`s out to the wing going back to Nicco in goal he threw the ball out
to the wing and we attacked with balls on the floor and down the wings perhaps we have not got the players we had those days.
How ever again reflecting on the game it was a well fought out game today were they just shaded it, onwards and upwards.

Raven has been ever present in one of statistically the best defences this season and is responsible for playing in all of the clean sheet performances. Dropping him would be of no value. Yes Kay is good, but if Raven is a bit better and I think he must be, there's no point dropping him, you don't gain, you just potentially lose a bit

Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

I dont think Kay was that good when he got his chance was he???? Think raven has that bit of experience that helps us out at times.

I would like to see us play out from the back more (as the youth team do as a matter of fact!) but I don't think we have good enough players on the ball back there and in the holding midfield role to do it well.

Labadie can't play the defensive midfielder role. He's the last person I'd use to calm anybody down. Raven did not have one of his better games today but he's had a good season so far. I have always liked Kay-I can only assume that he's had bad performances in games I haven't seen because he seems to be third choice right back for some reason.

Ladbie although he gets a lot of bookings, takes the game by the scruff of the neck. They absolutley swamped us in the second half, if we had a bit more guile in midfield we could of got some more control. Raven can't pass the ball, and is too weak a defender, Sheff wed has been only one of a handfull of big tests for us so far this season, so far we have mainly played sides we should be get results against given our stature in the league against the big clubs. We did well first half but i think thats was probably there tactics to soak up the pressure first half then go for it in the second. We still have the problem going fowards that we run out of ideas and just try and knock it out to Akins, other clubs have noticed this now and he just gets marked out the game. We have the right players in the squad to play other formations , Zoom and ladbie were fantastic last season . We should go 4-4-2 , Zoom as a wingback, Robo, akins, ladibie, weir/welsh. Baxter and Enoch/mcgurk/Tyaraki up front

But the manager won't play 4-4-2.

Dissapointed with the result but not with the performance. As has been said in previous posts, they aren't a particularly good side. It's been built to get out of the division for sure, big and strong and a bit dirty at times. If you compare them to other sides we have played at home recently, Walsall and Colchester particularly, they are the worst side in footballing terms, but if you look at their position in the league, they are likely to finish higher for that reason.

First half, we absolutely battered them and made them look very ordinary. Shocking goal to conceed and could have been a different game if it had been 1-0 at half time and they didn't score with the 15-20 minutes of pressure. Lowe was the difference for me, he caused us a lot more issues than the other lad did in the first half and was always likely to get a goal. Could also have been a different game if they had gone down to 10. The tackle from where I saw it was absolutely appauling and regardless of whether he got the ball or not, from what I saw his feet were off the ground so that's an automatic red.

I would also like to praise us for doing something that we never do. In the first half we played them absolutely brilliantly. They were much bigger and physical than us and in 50-50 situations we played for the foul, which normally we don't but in games like that we should because we always end up losing out.

Got to say though despite the defeat, I left the game feeling pretty good. When you consider the fact they have a premier league/championship manager, have a much bigger budget than us, we outplayed them at times and caused them a lot of problems. Just dissapointed we didn't get something out of the game because we deserved it.

The thing with performance`s as far we are concerned we can batter teams till the cows come home and then out of the blue they score one or two goals we then lose the points and we end up with nothing(Sm40).
The missing ingredient in our make up is the predator the striker that lurks at far post or around 6/18 yard areas that gets into that area before the ball knows it going there, the Aldo`s Muiry and Greenacre`s of this world. Then if the opposition scores one or two it`s not the end of the game.
If we had a predator striker and when we are in the ascendancy period of the game it is then when that goal scorer strikes the man that get`s the one or two goals puts us in real charge of the game but for now we do not have one and this lack of goals is what`s hurting us in games.
But we do not have a pot of gold to go and get this predator so we will have to battle on slightly toothless(Sm54)any idea`sconfused smiley given the lack of money who may fit that slot in January`s transfer window just to beef up the attack.(Sm44)

A predator will only score if you provide him with the right type of service and ammunition.. And the way we play,we don't. How often do we see our main striker[or indeed anybody else]ruuning onto or attacking crosses at speed and at close range to try and get in powerful headers or shots? Many of our set pieces go towards Ash at the near post and,as a result,he often has two men marking him. Why do we not have somebody on the edge of the area a la Nick Henry and like their lad who scored the equaliser yesterday for poor headed clearances?

If you compare them ''in football terms'' to Walsall and Colchester, then you should look at the respective league positions before drawing a conclusion-also in the second half[particularly the first 15-20 minutes]they dominated with very fast attacks [particularly Marshall -the number 10 and the right back].Their football didn't look so bad to me in that period.Lowe was on when they dominated,Madine wasn't.

Although we were much the better side in the first half,I wouldn't say we battered them.

I said a few weeks back we won't be able ton sustain our position near the top 6 because of a lack of goals, and it is a big concern for me. The defence has by and large been excellent so far, but there is too much pressure put on them because we rarely score more than 1 in a game. We have spells where we are in control, put a few crosses in but very rarely have a clear cut chance. I think their keeper had to make one save, and that is not the first time that has happened at home.

A draw would have been a fair result, but there you go. We badly need to start scoring when we are on top. We are missing that bite up top, something we haven't had since Les took over. No wins in 5 and 3 defeats in a row, we badly need to halt this slide.

Quite agree it`s that predator that`s missing in the box area
Aldo / Muiry and the likes not to hot in the aid of defence but with a strike rate that they had who needed them in defence.
