Rovers Withdraw Planning Applications

It has been confirmed today that Tranmere Rovers Chairman Peter Johnson has withdrawn the dual planning applications for development at Ingleborough Road and Woodchurch.....
Tranmere Rovers has withdrawn it's dual plannig applications related to development plans for both Ingleborough and Woodchurch Road it was revealed this afternoon but the immediate future of the plans and the future of the Club in general as a result, remain unclear.
The plans, which have been controversial amongst certain members of the local community, involved Rovers developing it's site at Ingleborough Road, currently used for training by the Club's junior and youth teams, for housing and then using the money raised from the re-development to put money into redeveloping the run down Woodchurch Leisure Centre.
This facility would then have become Rovers' new training facility but would also have had great benefits to families and sports teams in the area in and around Woodchurch with brand new facilities available for use by all.
However these plans have been put under threat by campaigners angry that the Ingleborough Road site is an area representative of a war memorial to those local people who died fighting for their country. The fact that the current war memorial plaque is invisible to anyone unless they actually access Ingleborough and that Rovers' plans for the housing development included re-siting the plaque in a memorial garden area seemed to have done little to stem the hatred towards the proposals.

The planned developments also had a huge bearing on the proposed takeover of the Club by the Tranmere Supporters Trust who will be watching developments as closely as ever following this announcement. Had the development gone ahead, the takeover of the Club from Chairman Peter Johnson may have been nothing more than a formality but without the development there would certainly be clouds over the deal.
Following the announcement today that Rovers have withdrawn their plans, campaign leader Dean Johnson told the Wirral Globe..
“It’s a great relief but I always thought that the club would understand how important the meaning of the memorial was in the end. I am really happy at the moment for the families of the fallen heroes who are commemorated there because their memories can now live on undisturbed."
“My campaign was never about going against Tranmere Rovers, it was more about how I strongly I felt about the field. It is such an important place and I think it means a lot to commemorate soldiers especially when we have young lads fighting out in Afghanistan now.”
In spite of today's announcement, Total Tranmere does not see this as being the end of the matter and with no reason yet given by Tranmere for the withdrawal of the applications, there may still be every chance that the campaign could be ressurrected in the future. If this was to be the case it would make the celebrations of the anti-development campaigners shortlived.

Not sure what to make of this really. Could it be withdrawn for amendment or permanently?

everything peter johnson does is bad news for tranmere rovers ,he did great things once for us ,now he seems to want to kill the club ,WHY???, keep praying boys that there is a guy or company out there with money to buy him out and build us up again

Just looked at the Wirral Met Planning pages it is still down for 16/2/2012 to go forward to the planning committee on that date will have to keep checking perhaps next week to see if it has been withdrawn once we see it has been pulled we will then know some thing else is on the agenda storm clouds gathering ? over Prenton Park or are we adding 2+2 and getting 5 have to see what next week news on the planning front brings.

yes lets see ,but do any tranmere fans realy trust peter johnson anymore ,lets face it he is doing nothing for the club ,this is just one in a long line of things showing he dont give a toss for the club ,he holds that gun to the clubs head over the money and ther is nothing can be done about it ,i once had great repect for him ,he came to rovers built the club up and realy made it a great place to be put us on the map we were right up there going places,but now seems he just wants to kill the club ,the sooner he goes the better ,

Storm clouds seem to be gathering over PP wonder what`s going on?
this extra development put`s the debate on whether Les should stay or go on the back burner
is their a hidden reason for this change of mind on planning front regarding the plans for Ingleborough/Woodchurch seeing they seemed to be on the main plan for a change of direction regarding finance to sort out part of the debt to Peter Johnson and a new training
facility for Rovers and the Trust Takeover,worrying times ahead

Dean Johnson will be delighted. No building on his beloved waterlogged field (except maybe floodlights which the residents will hate..) whilst the plans see a major part of the community destroyed.
Woodchurch Leisure centre was only saved from closure because Tranmere were set to take it on, wouldn't be surprised to see it go completely now.
The residents on Woodchurch and at Ingleborough are on the whole very supportive of TRFC's plans, pressure from one guy has perhaps ruined the future of our club and the surrounding communities - I can't see how TRFC will live without this development going through.

If P.J really wants to save dosh then he may as well scrap that useless official website ... It's garbage.
By the time anything is published on that so called official website, it's already in the public domain via half a dozen other fan pages.
They've obviously sacked their P.R Officer as part of the penny pinching process at P.P?
They treat us all like mushrooms! i.e - Feed us s*** and keep us in the dark!
I am totally amazed by the lack of professionalism shown by Tranmere Rovers in recent years.
This is a massive issue to a lot of people and is not even worthy of a bulletin on their mickey mouse website???

Now Dean Johnson is eager to register the field with English Heritage and is now going to push an application with the said English Heritage if approved this would block any future plans or a amended plans for housing so it looks like the field and it`s building`s will remain in their pristine condition for time in memorial.
Makes you think who has to pay for keeping it in good repair if Tranmere no longer use it for training ect.
With being kept just as a field it makes you wonder how many people will turn up on remembrance day to honour the fallen of the First World war at the field if like any of the years that have passed I bet the numbers turning up will be few and far between, I think this is an opportunity lost to the club and Woodchurch and Wirral area.

As a former pupil of the Birkenhead Institute, I find this situation absolutely stupid.
The original Birkenhead Institute was located in Whetsone Lane, the council have since turned this into an Art School and then knocked it down.
Then they renamed the old Tolemache Road School in Claughton Village as The Birkenhead Institute High School. Anyone who attended this school will no doubt recollect how bad this school was and how they are not surprised it has been closed.
They have built houses on the Claughton Village site because they got a decent bit of revenue for the land sale. Did they use that revenue to build a new Birkenhead Institute? Did they F**k ... Kerching!
So if they are so concerned over preserving the good name of the Birkenhead Institute then why didn't people oppose this at the time?

Here's the plan!
Sell the f*****g field, set aside some money and build a more fitting memorial where these guys are actually buried.
I am an ex serving soldier and an ex Birkenhead Istitute Pupil, I can fully understand both sides of the argument, however my plan above would satisfy every party concerned.
Unless there was a hidden agenda which meant someone would gain for financially than the other?

In addition to this we seem to have a Board who are increasingly inept over ALL issues. Is there a Board that make democratic decisions or is Johnson and Abramovich type figure that dictates all?

I already knew all about this on the day of the withdrawal but wasn't allowed to say too much. Dean Johnson and co are in for a shock after toasting victory last week!!

Dean Johnson may be toasting victory too soon but it seems he is going to apply English Heritage to register the field to block on any development in the future seems odd that some one can try to register some thing that does not belong to them, I may be off the target here but if every body wants to block any thing in the future that they do not own ect it
could lead to chaos in the planning department all quoting some thing to do with heritage or the like.
I hope it is resubmitted and we can all move on, the memorial stone moved to a new garden of remembrance on the site and the Woodchurch sports centre open both for Tranmere and local community this would aid the youth of today on the Wirral.
Both the new house`s and garden of remembrance and a potential new sports complex would take the place of a some what sad looking field and pavilion that`s there now.
We await the next move from Tranmere and of coarse Dean Johnson who waits in the wing doing his best to make Tranmere the villain

I did think it was extremely odd at the time. Lets all hope and pray that the revised application will be more suitbale. You would think the Council would have had some sort of communication with PJ, advising what to change and ammend etc
Maybe now because of this there is more chance of it going through?

I saw an interesting point recently on another site about this, which is why didn't Dean Johnson open a museum to War Veterans, not just Wilfred Owen, then there would be no issue.
They get a solid memorial and Tranmere get what they want.
