Tranmere boss leaves managerial post after two and a half years in the role.....

Tranmere Rovers have today confirmed that sacking of manager Les Parry following yesterday's 1-0 defeat at the hands of relegation threatened Chesterfield.
It had been heavily rumoured since on Saturday evening that the 54 year old had been sacked, with the club website finally confirming what the footballing world already knew at 5.30pm on Sunday evening.
Rovers have been on a dire run of form under the stewardship of the former physio, winning just one of their last 20 games, despite starting the season brilliantly and finding themselves in the play-off places towards the end of October.
That run has left Tranmere just one point above the relegation zone, with a lack of goals the clubs problem, with all of Rovers' last seven defeats coming by a slender one goal margin.

Parry, club physio for 18 years, took over at Prenton Park as a replacement for John Barnes in October 2009, with the club in a dreadful position at the bottom of League One.
He led the club to safety that season, with a 3-0 victory over Stockport County on the final day of the season securing Tranmere's League One status, before Tranmere finished eighteenth in the division last season, nine clear of the relegation zone.
Progression seemed to have been made for Rovers over the summer and a superb start to the season followed after the signings of a number of exciting players, but from October onwards it seems to have been a case of one step forward and two steps back for the club since the end of last season.
Parry leaves the club having managed Tranmere in 131, with Rovers winning 40 of those matches, drawing 34 and losing a further 57.
Including his spell as physio, Parry had been an employee at Prenton Park for over 20 years and was considered by many an extremely popular character. The game against Chesterfield on Saturday was his 1,016th consecutive first team match in the Tranmere Rovers dugout.
Early favourites to take over from Parry include former MK Dons and Notts County manager Martin Allen and current assistant manager Kevin Summerfield, who's future at the club is not yet known.
The club's official website states that more details will be made available to fans shortly.

A real gentleman in the game today and I will always have fond memories of Les, and just hope the club do not abandon him and get him a backroom job ASAP.
The reason I won't remember him as manager is quite simply so not to vilify his memory with the club.
Thanks Les, and thanks for all the shorts!!

I think it is patronising to say he should have been given a backroom role. I could easily see him managing a league two club in a few months. Or maybe physio at a higher level given hes got managerial experience. Don't think he'll be out of work too long at any rate.
Please don't patronise him by saying he should have been given a back room role. He's well thought of in the game and could easily see him managing a league two club in a few months . Or maybe physio at a higher level given the experience he now has.
I can understand some of the stick he got in the last couple of games but not the tripe people were writing about him when we were doing ok.
May have been a good servant to the club certainly as a physio but proved to be too negative as a manager and couldnt alter his tactics or formation.

hey gary-youve spent the last few weeks saying some really strong things about les -now your saying he should be given a job behind the scenes-havent you realised that tranmere havent got any money and thats one of the reasons les got the job in the first place.how are they then gonna find the money to pay les as a staff member?-its no use now saying hes a good fella you should have considered that before saying the things you did-ifeel sAd that its ended like this but hes well qualified so im sure he will be fine-and like a lot of people have said the time when he was physio were good times and he can always hold his head up
Maybe now we can concentrate on survival?
,thank god now lets get a real manager or someone who knows what they are doingQuote:Lorraine Rogers is taking overgaryrov
@gony was les so he has gone, thank god now lets get a real manager or someone who knows what they are doing

"No, but i'd work alongside a manager"
Following on from this, he confirmed that Ronnie WOULD come back. (again not my 1st choice but beggars cant be choosers).
So, A Moore father and son act could be possible, as it seems they are both willing!

Where did u hear this
Are you referring where did we hear Parry has gone, or where I heard Moore would be willing to come back.
If the latter, then Ian Moore himself said it following a question tweeted to him on Twitter.
I heard someone say Sammy McIlroy. I'd never thought of him before but would be a good shout!
the Manager,
Available managers like Curbishley and McClaren don't have that kind of C.V and Morecambe can't have been spending large wages beasue it cost them a tonne to build the globe.
Right now, Ronnie back would be fine with me, with possibly Ian as player assistant, or Goodison on a trial basis, or Mcilroy.
Ones I don't want are Allen or Ince. I saw Ince smoking once, hardly a good rolemodel for fitness and he has done poorly since he went ot Blackburn and acheived nothing, plus his diloyalty ot Macclesfield and MK Dons the first time are non-starters for me, as he could get Tranmere to a position like 10th place, then beetle off to a Championship side.
As for Martin I like players who cheat Allen, he can go and kiss my kerby butt.
Alhough I'd welcome pretty much anyone.
Good luck to Les in his future though, as whatever people thought of his tenure, he never encouraegd footballing malpractices and never came across as a person with a nasty streak like Ferguson does.
Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

Jimmy Harvey or Mickey Mellon for me.
Harvey for me, but I doubt he'd come under Johnson.
Mickey Mellon WONT come here - 100%

I tweeted Ian Moore earlier (before this news) and asked him would he do it if asked. He wouldn't be my choice personaly, but his reply was
"No, but i'd work alongside a manager"

I don't want any previous managers to come back particularly the one you mention.
Nope, they're a well run, sensible financed club, but they're not big cheeses that could get £800,000 for a player, I'm certain of that and McIlroy wouldn't have bene paid handsomely, not whilst the new ground was being financed. Now that club has not had to siphen off investment, it may turn out to be the case that the club could increase what it spends on player wages and a managers salary, but it still won't make them Crawley Town.
The guy in charge of Crawley is clearly well heeled, but Morecambe wouldn't be in a position to match that spending now, but that's irrelevant, as to whether they could ever find such a way to do that in the near future or not, as McIlroy was recruited as manager before the financing of the ground and the build had been finished and when you look at his background in management, he's never managed clubs that could pay a kings ransom, so he should be affordable.
Any manager is a risk as is any player you sign. Football is always a risky sport like many others, but someone like McIlroy has plenty of upsides, that many don't.
I looked on the LMA website before and out of the obviously unnafordable jobless managers, like Cubishley and Hoddle, the ones who might be affordable that I saw had been let go of league 1, 2 and conference clubs, some of which have not managed for 4+ years, which is not ver confidence building for me personally.
As a side not another couple of people aside from Allen and Ince I wouldn't want are Dave Penny, as I think he's poor and John Beck as he's been had up in the past at Lincoln and Cambridge for disrepute charges.
Lincoln I believe was financial irregularites, for which from memory he got sacked and Cambridge for amongst other things employing tactics like encouraging diving and giving ballboys hot towels but encouragin the ball to only be wiped for his playes not opposition players, which is gamemanship of sorts.

If proved to be true, then at least it gives us time to get the points to stay up

How about Eric Nixon as boss knows club inside out asked him on Twiter would he consider rovers job if asked his words were "be a fool not to " could do a lot worse.
No thanks. Lets look at this logically. The only managers that have had success here are those that had experience...
John King (Lower league experience - highly successful)
John Aldridge (No experience - generally unsuccessful)
Dave Watson (No experience - abysmal)
Bryan Little (Experienced - Had a few good seasons)
Ray Mathias (Experienced - Didn't do too badly)
Ronnie Moore (Experienced - Did well with little resources)
John Barnes (No experience - Terrible)
Les Parry (No experience - Terrible)
Tells its own story, we need someone who ISNT embarking on their first managerial job. We need a hungry experienced manager who will see Tranmere as a step UP not a first foot on the ladder. We should be looking at managers from League 2 / non-league with a bit of a pedigree, in my opinion.

since when did our website give any up to date news!

It`s difficult to say if Les has gone yet as his match report
is on the Rovers web site if he was sacked after the match as stated on Sky would you be bothered to write a match report
for the official site I dam sure I would not write it if I was sacked so until it`s on the Rovers site or any other outlet I would take it Les is still in charge only time will tell if we still see him in the dug out on Tuesday.

We need somebody new who's not managed here before.Don't necessarily agree with your hungry experienced manager comment either.

Thats exactly what i've just said. I wasn't calling for an ex manager to come back! I just don't think we should be a guinea pig for someone who wants to play football manager.
BBC Late Kick Off understands that Les Parry has been sacked by Tranmere Rovers & that more details will emerge this afternoon.
Bring it on !

Been told that John McMahon has also gone.
If thats the case thats interesting. Are they clearing the decks for someone to bring his whole backroom in?
Didn't Scumbag Allen wanna bring his backroom in last time and thats what made him walk away?
Hmmmm

for me it is personal, i,m glad yo've gone les parry.i just cant believe it took johnson so long.it should have been at the end of last season.youre formations and tactict were a defensive boring nightmare that never worked.9-0-1.maybe now he's gone we can play the right way.like under JOHNNY KING
I think the quality of the strikers the midfield and the rest of the make up of the teams under John King were poles apart from the players we have now perhaps only two or three odd that play now would fit into John King squads, I would find a place for Ian Goodison(in the team) Fon Williams(inthe squad)
and Andy Robinson(when fully fit)and Devananey(in the squad on bench replacement for Nevin/Morrisey) but hope fully a new man at the helm will have a new game plan and turn things round and quickly as we need the points around fifty+ to save us from the drop so that`s around five wins and odd draw here and there depending how we get the 16pts we need as for the next three home games we need at least six pts from the nine.
You look at what people like Ronnie Moore did with 2 up front, so why the heck would you play 1 up and 1 dropping off?
I still suspect John McMahon brought the tactical knowledge from Liverpool and fed it to Les, because it was never the standard 4-5-1, so I can't understand where Les got the idea for it, as last season it wasn't quite the same and most of this seasons squad was playing at the end of last season when some games were 3-4 goal hauls and the loss of so many goals so far, is not purely down to losing Jennings, because Akins hardly stepped up that much and Tiryaki hasn't put someone like Morrow in the shade.
He just got it wrong and here is some proof of him going backwards.
Lateef's loan spells.
2010–2011 → Tranmere Rovers (loan) 16 (5)
2012 → Tranmere Rovers (loan) 4 (0)
A marginal offside this season, but Lateef ended up with a non-existant average, but why nail some good games like Leyton Orient and Exeter at the end of last season, changing the setup and getting I think +9 goal difference from 7 games and then choosing to go with something less successful this season, when you've got players like Holmes, Buchanan, Raven and Fon Williams, instead of Warner, Kay and Bakayogo, so your back 5 has not gotten worse but even better.
The perfect excuse to explore more attacking options. The team since Fons return, is on a goal a game average for concessions, pretty much as it was before he got injured, so if that's not confidence building enough to play a more attacking game what is?
Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.
McMahon and Summerfield were instructed what tactics to coach by Les, and they did that. They certainly didn't choose them though!

option after the Barnes/McAteer expensive debacle.
Far too nice for the cut and thrust of Div 1 football and I
never really understood some of his tactics particularly
when we went one down ,as often happened.
I do hope that he stays with Rovers in some capacity because
he is a genuine club man and can still help the club.
We need someone with a bit of edge.Mad Dog Allen would be
a very interesting and different choice.
Very clever of Chelsea to hide the sacking of AVB on the
day Les is sacked.
so many experts ! get your applications in with your CVs, you think it so easy !
remember more than once Danny H making terrible passes ! he is B'head Rovers through and through ! felt for him yeasterday ! it's just not that easy !!! and if you want to prove it is ! apply for the job !
