Good news!

Strange one this. Not sure on it. I think we should be looking forwards, not backwards. But if he keeps us up, maybe it'll be time to reassess then!

Whether this is the right move time will tell but on the positive side the appointment of Ronnie was at least quick and this is a good move from Peter Johnson.

slightly strange but happy hes back should not have been sacked in the first place. Welcome back ronnie now keep us up.

I'm with Matt it's a strange one. Also stinks of hypocrisy from Peter Johnson specially his comments about Ronnie.

Peter Johnson's decision making just gets better.

I'm really not impressed about this appointment. Ronnie will need to have put a lot of water under the bridge to come back to PP and work for PJ after being fired for no other reason that a marketing publicity stunt involving Barnes and Macca.

Not sure about some of the posts on the other thread calling for Parry to be given a backroom job - I feel he should not have been fired in the first place, but to give him a backroom role with the squad he built as the boss would be a disaster - clearly no-one making those comments has worked in management. Players will have loyalties, especially the young lads and in particular people like Raven and Holmes who Ronnie got rid of...

There's really no way back for Les Parry now, and he must have known that when he agreed to take on the job. It must be acknowledged that he did a great job of keeping us up after D and D were fired and I must admit he surprised me in doing so, as I'm sure, he surprised many of us.
I'm pleased to see Ronnie Moore back with the club especially after the way he was dumped unceremoniously after a really good season. I hope it's a permanent move as we know his capabilities whereas others would be a gamble.
If Les was around in any capacity he'd probably find it hard not to interfere with Ronnie's decision making, so it's just as well it's a clean break.
I certainly don't agree that "(Les) shouldn't have been fired in the first place" - although it took him far to long, Johnson finally came to his senses and did the right thing and then followed that up with another good decision in re-hiring RM. That's 2 in a row, PJ.
I now feel optimistic about our chances of avoiding relegation and look forward to better football.

i think its a great call a manager that had done nothing wrong in his last spell am fully behind this decision

I dont see it as a panic move he had to act quickly one les was sacked as weve only 13 games left to try to stay up & its a tall order for ronnie.

Good decision and has been done quickly so there's no interim management and some potential upheaval.

are you really complaining about how quick this has been sorted there is only one training session until we have a match if it was going to be done before tuesday it had to be today

les was lucky to keep his job for as long as he did, agree with jade we needed to move quickly

Let's go back to 2009. PJ said he sacked him for attendances. Personally I think it was for non-footballing reasons, which begs the question; why the U turn?

Absolutely crazy. We could have done better BUT considering this is PJ we could have done a hell of a lot worse so in that sense; I'm happy.

Think the chairman cant do right for wrong here appoints Ronnie who has good track record with Rovers then people say he has panicked by doing it to quick, lets get real here this has been planned in advance and if ronnie keeps us up which am sure thats the target then he will continue next season. So quick appointment was needed because 3 home games coming up which am sure we will be looking to take at least 7 points from and get away from the dreaded trap door. I for one say well done to our chairman and know lets all get behind the team and club Tuesday

If it was pre planned why did we wait for ages for an official announcement and then when that came, wait another 5 hours for Ronnnie to be announced.

I refuse to believe it was pre planned in any way.

Not that complicated. PJ speaks to Ronnie and apologises for his sacking and admits he made a mistake. RM has been ou of work for a while and accepts the apology. Probably happened before Les's sacking. probably discuss the terms of the contract immediately after Les was sacked and a quick appointment is made.

Cant blame PJ for that. He had a contingency in place for if we lost on sat and acted quickly. Will be a buzz now instead of negativity from fans at next few home games and hopefully results will improve.

Struggling to think if this is the same Ronnie Moore that a lot of fans wanted out at one point because of his hoofball tactics?

He ended up proving a lot of people wrong that time but this whole thing stinks of hypocrisy from both the fans and Peter Johnson.

I'm generally happy with this. Of all the candidates touted, the only one that I'm sure has the ability to get the current squad playing well now is Ronnie.
Longer term.... well, if he stays beyond the end of the season we more or less know what we're getting, which is certainly a lot better than what we've had for the last few years. Some people aren't going to be happy but I suspect there's going to be a sizeable crowd tomorrow to welcome him back.

It takes a big man to admit he made a mistake in sacking Ronnie and it takes a big man to put byegons behind him.They have shaken hands and will both be working like mad to try to save us from the drop.both are Tranmere through and through....lets ALL of us get behind them...come on the super white army.

I think that the idea that he keeps us up and then we get someone else in for next season is wishful thinking. The sacking of Ronnie, followed by the sacking of Barnes, followed by the appointment of the physio because he was the cheap option has already left the club with a terrible reputation for not giving a toss about what goes on at the management level. If Ronnie kept us up and then got ditched again you really would have to start to ask yourself what sort of manager would take the job - the answer being a really f***ing desperate one.

To an extent I agree - if he does keep us up then he deserves the job because he's done what he was asked to achieve. That's what I've always said of Les Parry. But at the same time, I would personally prefer to see somebody new and fresh in come the summer.

Am reasonably pleased with this. I genuinely thought that PJ would hand the job to either Summerfield or McMahon. So the appointment of Ronnie till the end of the season has exceeded my expectations.

The appointment seemed to be made very quickly but its hardly surprising is it? We are on a dreadful run and unfortunately the performances have slipped the same way as the results. With only 13 games to go PJ has anticipated the likelihood that if he hadnt acted quickly and left Tuesday in the hands of Summerfield then the chances are we would be sitting in the relegation zone by Wednesday. By bringing someone in quickly he has given them some time to meet the players and to get them on side.

I also think that this has been another clever move by PJ. With the Leyton Orient game approaching which marks the start of PJs tenure he will want to be hailed as the saviour of TRFC. Can you imagine how he would have been recieved had we been in the bottom 4 with Les Parry still at the helm? Pj can now enjoy his day in the sun.

Can I also add we will beat Notts County on Tuesday playing 442.

I think it'd be wrong to assume just yet that we'll have a sudden up turn in form and performances, especially starting with Tuesday. Notts County will be a very tough side to play against - under new boss Keith Curle they've won all four games and are yet to concede a goal.

I wonder how much he knows about the current squad. I haven't heard any reports of him being spotted in the crowd so they'll be mostly unknowns to him. I would guess that it will be McMahon and Summerfield that pick the team tomorrow, which will be interesting in itself as anything other than 1 up front could indicate that they weren't supporters of Les's tactics (not that it really matters now).
If we do stick with the 1 up front tomorrow then I can think of at least one player that's going have to work his socks off to keep his starting place in any alternative formation.

Ronnie has stated that he was at the game on Saturday and has seen us a couple of other times this season. He'll play 4-4-2 with wingers looking to get crosses into the box to two strikers who support each other.

My guess on team, assuming McGurk is fit enough to play (I know Devaney is out injured) would be:

Fon Williams

Holmes Taylor Goodison Buchanan

Akins Welsh Labadie Robinson

Showunmi McGurk

Interestingly, there are only four players at the club who played under Ronnie Moore, two of which he actually let slip. Those two are Danny Holmes and Dave Raven, whilst Ian Goodison and Ash Taylor also played under his management.

I reckon that team is very close to the mark.

This puts the "no one would take the job" and "we can't afford a proper manager" myths to bed.

I see this a positive move: he's experienced, he's Tranmere and the fans (mostly, I would imagine) will back him.

There won't be any five year plans whilst PJ is here so we may as well forget about a dream manager or wishing for the unattainable. A young and inexperienced manager could well see us relegated and find themselves on the dole in a few months.

I'm actually excited about the match tomorrow. I'll leave long term wishes on the back-burner for the time being.

No I wouldn't actually. The club needs to move forward, something I have been saying on here for months, we need a quality Manager, Ronnie Moore got sacked at Rotherham remember. He for me is not moving forward at all, more a reflection of sticking with the old, and I believe (but happy to be proved wrong over time) that he is not the man for the job. I have never changed my view and certainly wouldn't be moaning if someone like David Kelly had been appointed.

I would have preferred a complete change. My opinion (and one I wont change) is that this is a reflection of the club going backwards. I don't think he will save us from the drop, and I don't think we will do anything next season. New blood may have stimulated interest and boosted gates and more importantly got the players playing at their best, he may as well of got Ray Mathias to come back.

Everyone's fed up of hearing excuses about the budget etc, but there's no way anyone can deny the teams in the top 5 of this division have loads more to spend than we do.

Regardless of who we got in, I don't think we would even have a chance of finishing top 2 (unless the money situation changes), but who's to say that next season we won't have a chance of making the playoffs? 3 seasons ago we couldn't have been any closer with Ronnie in charge.

Ste, the fact is we have no money. We can wish and dream all we like but the club has an owner who wants out and is not prepared to stump up the dosh for quality players or an exciting young manager. He is being very cautious and looking to the short term. The Dumb and Dumber dream team failed. appointing the most popular man in the club, to the fans, failed. Now he has gone back to square one. I am more optimistic now than I have been for a long time and am looking forward to the game tomorrow, though I still think the odds are stacked against us.

As I said at the time the Barnes appointment was a great idea and then the fans and chairman lost their bottle. The fans then got what they deserved with Les, who was a dead man walking from day 1. The inevitable happened and he was put out of his misery and now the new masterplan is to inexplicably appoint the man whose averageness started this cycle of foolishness. And the story continues.......

Pretty sure this was pre-empted, I mean ronnie has said he was at the chesterfield game, and from his comments seemingly he was taking notes. I think it was pretty obviously if lost to chestefeild then Les would go, so PJ probably had cover for that eventuality. Im really not shocked that he's come back either, Ive been saying it would happen for months, It suits both parties, Ronnie was out of a job and we need a manager, sure PJ has to say sorry but even he knows its worth it.

I know we have no money (as I have said many times before). I agree PJ wants out and that we will not achieve anything really until the club is sold.

Ronnie will be filling the gap until then or until he gets the push as well. PJ will not spend (his choice, as its his money).
I wish he had sold last summer, as I said then.And we may well be pushing for promotion next season, but if so it will be from Div 2

I was told by the stewards before the Charlton game that he was supposed to be there too.

There just ain't pleasing some people.

Ronnie back is a good move in the current situation, he knows the club, league and other players well at this level. And WILL save us from the drop. We don't have a budget and the man dam near got us promoted with no budget!

If you watch the Player interview with Johnson, someone asked him about contacting Ronnie on Thursday and he never denied it.

It proves one rumour on here about the saturday game being Les's last regardless, because Johnson would hardly call Ronnie and say do you want the job if Les loses, bearing in mind you won't get it if he wins?

Les ultimately paid with his stubbornness. Even when it was 2 points off safety he never went 4-4-2 or even 5-3-2. I they had won both games it would be 7 points clear and 10 from survival.

Ronnie likes 4-4-2, so if he does that I think it might be something like this.

In an interview today, Ronnie has said he contacted Johnson on Saturday night after he heard Les had been sacked

RM will give us some impetus and get the players wound up so ok in the short term. If he keeps us up he probably gets a 1 or 2 year contract. Clears out a few players, brings a few of his own in and away we go. By that time he might even bring Les back as Physio!ha ha ha. I recall though his last time in charge, yes Scunthorpe away and that late equaliser but that was a pretty rare highlight from his time in charge. I also recall being taunted by Oldham home and away due to our hoof ball tactics which got him the sack from Oldham in the first place before he came back. Even PJ blamed his style of football for attendances dropping when appointing Barnes. All that negativity aside I will be one noisy M F tomorrow night to get the lads lifted and 3 points in the bag - SWA stand up and be counted!!!

I may have not paid proper attention to what he said, but the player one Tranmere's site, inferred Johnson contacted Ronnie on Thursday.

On the BBC site there's another interview with Les where he said he got called by Johnson after Sunday training and he knew it wasn't going to be for a pay rise and then got told at Johnsons house it was curtains.

People talked about Dave Kelly. I wonder what would happen if the kept John Mc, got rid of Kevin Summerfield and had Dave (Robin), and Ronnie, (Batman), together as the dynamic duo, with John Mc playing the part of Alfred the butler

Might be an interesting 18 months, espeically as some think Les was the Joker and now Commissioner Gordon has ousted him, Batman can save the residents of Gotham City from league 2.
