Rochdale v Tranmere Rovers Match Discussion
By Deadly Submarine
March 19 2012
If you can't make Tranmere's game away at Rochdale on Tuesday evening, why not join in the banter right here with other Rovers fans who are unable to attend......

For those fans who can't make some of the Rovers games this season, particularly the more costly and time consuming southern away games, we at Total Tranmere will be providing a Match Discussion Thread on the Site for every Rovers game.
The thread will allow you to discuss everything from the pre-match build up and starting line-up to the game it as it progresses and the post-match analysis.
Where possible, Total Tranmere staff will post up the starting line-up and substitutes on the thread as soon as it is made known at the game as well as a half-time report on how the game is going for the benefit of those who are unable to make it.

Tranmere of course, make the trip to Rochdale on Tuesday in NPower League One so if you're not going to the game why not join in the banter right here while the game is going on?
Maybe if you have a friend or family member texting you from the game you can post their views here for others to see as the game progresses.
You could also use this thread to discuss other interesting scores throughout the league as well as discussing this game afterwards if you have been along to the game.
What you discuss below is up to you but hopefully it can all be focused on one thread to make it easier for everyone to use.
Admin staff will try and add the team and updates on the game on this thread where possible whilst there will also be our usual update service from our Twitter feed @totaltranmere so if you are not already following us it may be worth doing so!

is a draw.......1 - 1 my prediction
Enoch and Brunt are going to find their shooting boots and Robbo and Akins are gonna tear them apart down the flanks.
do not mind getting it wrong that way. SUPER WHITE ARMY here`s to a win on SATURDAY.ONWARDS AND UPWARDS

Cassidy took his goal superbly and looks a real prospect . Hope we keep him to the end if the season. Good strike by Wallace too.

Back up to 7 points clear now.
Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.
Every ball is a white ball............TRFC
The better team by far and apart from a few long range shots Rochdale never threatened. They were extremely sloppy with the ball whereas we played some decent footy.
MOTM could go to anyone of Holmes, Robbo or Wallace who were all superb.
Also gotta mention Cassidy, great strike and his second goal was never offside!

Anyway, we should stay up and for now that's what's most important I suppose.

Unable to go, but it sounds like the lads played good football, though it does seem strange that the system has allowed us to win by 2 goals scored by players who are not really Tranmere players and who will not be in the side next season. Well done but does give a bit of a false representation as far as how good we really are, would a side made up of Tranmere players have won so convincingly I wonder.

It's the way of the world. Its not what you know it's who you know and if TRFC can get some better loan players than the Oppo then I am all for it.
Just don't go round kissing badges, that's reserved for the true stalwarts of the club.
A good stuffing of Exeter on Saturday and well on the way to
mid table safety and a review of what we can do next season.
Something which I personally don't want to happen.
If we stay up easily with these players PJ will have to give the job to RM permanently on results alone, rather than take stock and consider others who may be interested in the job.
I understand the concerns about loan players but for now I just want to focus on staying up, and continuing this good run. There are many out of contract players in the summer and the new manager, whether it is RM or someone else, will have big decisions to make.
It is amazing what a different system and a bit of belief has done for these players so far.

Yeah I suppose it is, but we are not getting a true picture of how good a rovers team will be under RM for next season. and PJ surely needs to judge how successful he is with the original squad. I think what I'm really trying to say is we will escape relegation partly due to having Everton players in the team and as a result RM will automatically remain as Manager.
Something which I personally don't want to happen.
What about players who's contracts are up at the end of the season? Or the one's who might end up being sold? Should Ronnie be leaving them on the bench because of the possibility they may not be here next season?
What about the the opportunity the manager (Ronnie or whoever else) will have when the transfer window opens in the summer to bring their own players in? Maybe Everton, West Brom or Wolves might be looking to sell at the end of the season.
The target this season is to stay in League 1 and personally I don't care who the players belong to if we're winning games. Any talk regarding "the original squad" is nonsense because there's no way we'll have the exact same team by the time the transfer window closes in the summer.
I know its the way it is, I was simply making a point of FACT.
I want PJ to tout the job for a few weeks and see who's really interested as I personally (only my opinion) don't think RM is the right man for the job longer term.
They're playing for TRFC, for RM, and are part of OUR team. You say Wallace/Brunt, as loan signings, won't be here next season, but as half of our team are out of contract and some will almost certainly leave then why are we picking out the loan players here?
If RM has an idea of who he isn't going to offer a contract to next season should we not play them or the loan signings at all? I'm confused.
Les signed Wallace and Brunt, Ronnie extended them, RM also signed Shotton (a massive part of the 08/09 team) which proves he can also find decent loan players too! I don't get the point being made here?
Loan players are a part of lower league football nowadays. You can almost guarentee we'll use at least 5 next season regardless of whether RM is manager or not. Sadly that's how lower league football is going now.
Don't think you can hold it against any manager for using loan players though you could of course judge how good/effectively he uses the loan market.

Unfortunately, stupid responses about leaving people on the bench does not answer the obvious point I was trying to make. Just in case I was not clear. I want us to do well, of course, but don't particularly want RM as manager next season, but a string of good results due to goals scored by players who play for EVERTON not Tranmere is likely to put PJ in the position of having to keep RM on as it will seem the fair thing thing to do.

Still don't get your point regarding loan players. Despite that fact that they'll probably be returning to other teams at the end of season, at the moment they play for Tranmere.
I'm sure PJ will make his decision whether or not Ronnie stays based on how we perform from when he was appointed to the end of the season. If we finish in the top half, the fact that we have a few loanees who scored a couple of goals won't make it any less of an achievement in my opinion.
Maybe there are managers out there who would be more suited to the job (I won't bother asking you to name them) but with the current financial situation, are we really in a position to be taking risks when we got someone who (at the moment) is proving he can get results with the resources at hand?

I agree with your last paragraph.
Plus, look at players like Kay, Weir and Labadie. Right now if there was any chance players like Wallace, Lateef, Cassidy, Baxter or Brunt, got released and came here like the other aforementioend playerrs did, becasue of previous knowledge and liking of the Tranmere setup, who would complain?
Whereas without the loans, they might still get released, leaving Tranmere with no advantage when trying to sign one of them, they possibly choose elsewhere and people are on here saying, look at so n so playing for team X, we apparently tried to get him, but didn't, isn't he great, wish he was one of our players.
If you look at players like Labadie, Weir and Kay, they might not be everyones idea of a superstar of tomorrow, but who can honestly say any of them are downright rubbish and not worthy of even £100 a week?
If good loans come to Rovers and help them team stay up, thne it's the manager good nouse to call clubs with good loan players and his nouse in when and how he uses them that helps the team. If Ronnie had played Cassidy and Wallace on the flanks it might have been 0-0.
Those players still help to keep you up, by being used properly and often enough to matter and if one does get relased in the summer, the appeal of Tranmere assuming Ronnie wanted a former loanee, could swing it for him over other prospective suitors.
Right now Ronnie is doing precious little wrong and he's getting good loan players that want to graft and respect the shirt and he's using them correctly, so why should his countless phone calls to clubs and outsourced and well utilised quality count against him in the long run if those elements combine with exisiting elements to create fan pleasing successful form?
His job in part is to source and correctly use, good external quality if needs be, so if he does it well like he is doing, judge fairly, if not judge less fairly, but staying up is the aim and players like Cassidy can always baulk the loan offered, but if theyr'e willing to wear your teams shirt and graft and help you stay up, possibly with a view to a more long term procurement arrangement at your club, good and if you let them graft the way they are capable of good.
Ultimately I'm not fussed about which players play their part in keeping the team up, or getting superb form, be it loans or homegrown, as long as they will give 100% frequently and hopefully use gamesmanship 0% of the time.
Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.
How can these lads get experience when the manager can bring any player from anywhere in.
The clubs who can afford to abuse the system do so. the smaller clubs have to go cap in hand to get a youngster in, on unfair deals for the club.
Only season long loans should be allowed.
And maybe emergency keeper loans.
Anyhow, The EC is trying to get rid of it. I hope so!!
The football league has changed, and in my opinion not for the better. But its probably a reflection of western society, but hey don't get me on to politics that's not what this forum is for.
I also dont like the loan system however as was previously said if James Wallace is released then would he choose us over Old ham say because he knew the set up?
Time to talk to the out of contract players now and see what we have left and make the decisions by the end of the season to put us in the best position to fill the gaps before 2012-2013 and not draft in the dregs come August.
The whole loan issue just undermines the gap between rich and poor clubs now. Basically smaller clubs can no longer afford proper squads while richer clubs can afford huge squads with players who would never otherwise get a competitive game. Reluctantly support loans on that basis.
Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.
I mean if someone like Jake Cassidy was asked about being on loan, I doubt he'd say, I'm really happy to be here at Tranmere, (for now), or I'm happy at Tranmere, because it gives me a chance to prove I'll be worth a £12,000 a week deal, at a club like Leicester next season.
