Defensive duo extend Tranmere stay

Tranmere Rovers centre-backs Ashton Taylor and Ian Goodison have today signed new contracts with the club.
The defenders were amongst five of the current first team squad offered new contracts by manager Ronnie Moore following the end of the season last weekend and have been the first of those players to accept their new deals.
Both players were a key part of the Tranmere defence that kept a hugely impressive 17 clean sheets last season, the second highest total in League One behind title winning Charlton.

Jamaican Ian Goodison is the longest serving player at the club having been brought to Prenton Park by Brian Little in 2004. His new contract should not only see him pass 400 appearances for the club, having already made 378, but he may also break Eric Nixon's record as Tranmere's oldest player come winter.
The 39-year old signs a one year contract, on completion of which he will be just one year away from earning a testimonial at the club for ten years service.
22-year old Ashton Taylor meanwhile signs a new two-year contract at Prenton Park, keeping him with the club until the end of the 2013/14 campaign.
The Wirral born centre-back, who made his debut for the Welsh U21 team last season, has already passed 100 appearances for Tranmere after making his debut as a substitute on the final day of the 2008/09 season against Scunthorpe.

A product of the successful Tranmere youth system, Taylor has become a key player for the club over the last twelve months and captained the team for the first time in a league match in October against Charlton.
Taylor signing a new contract means six of Tranmere's first team squad next season will be graduates of Rovers' Centre of Excellence.
Goodison and Taylor signing their next contracts means Tranmere now have 13 professionals on their books for the 2012/13 season, with captain John Welsh, Player of the Season David Buchanan and creative midfielder Andy Robinson still deciding on whether to sign new deals with the club.
