Details of Tranmere's FA Cup first round draw

Article Header - Breaking News

Tranmere Rovers have been drawn against Braintree in the first round of this seasons FA Cup competition.

The tie will be played at Cressing Road in Essex on the weekend of Saturday 3rd November.

The draw took place this lunchtime and saw Tranmere, ball number 44, enter the competition as the highest ranked club due to their current league position, four points clear at the top of League One.

Braintree meanwhile are currently 17th in the Blue Square Bet Premier Division.

Last season, Les Parry's Tranmere side were ousted at the first round stage of the competition by League Two side Cheltenham Town (1-0).

Their opponents, Braintree, are into the first round for only the second time in their histroy after a 3-2 win over Lowestort Town yesterday.

Tranmere do, of course, have previous history in the competition however, famously reaching the Quarter Finals in 2000 and 2001, beating Premier League opposition in the form of Everton, Sunderland, West Ham and Southampton along the way, before repeating the feat in 2004.

I think we will go with our strongest team possible, there is no way we will make so many changes.

Put a weakened team out at your peril in the FA cup against
a determined non league team.Unless RM wants to concentrate on promotion and get out of the FA cup he should put out a strong team.

It must be the strongest team-anything else would be nuts.

Tough call ! may be wise to protect a few of our lads from what could be a very tough physical battle !

Got to and surely will play our strongest team. We want and need a cup run. Get to the fourth round, for example, and we'll get some much needed cash just before the transfer window shuts

A strong team will be merited, as putting weak sides out is an insult to your opposition, many of whom have never played league football and may never play it in their lives.

Playing weak sides to me show distain, as it's like saying we don't want our better players potentially injured playing your lesser players, which to some extent is devaluing the worth of those players to the opposition club and depending on the position of the club in that league, losing a key player for a few months, to injury by a second string player from the opposition, could cost them promotion or survival and the associated financial ramifications of that.

Alex Ferguson might be notable for such arrogance, but I don't think it's the Tranemre way and as Rafael Benitez discovered, losing to Burnley with a weakened team, in his first season, it's not the way you should do it.

I would welcome a system like the JPT has, which limits the number of changes possible to a cup squad, versus a league squad.

Tranmere may not be able to pick their very best team, certainly as Akpro won't be in it, but certainly as good a team as possible, maybe with a couple of changes, using either McChrystal, Stockton or Harrison, as the three candidates for the two changes, so you can have the two replaced players on the bench if it goes a bit wrong.

Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

Take out Jervis out for at least two weeks with an injury if not longer.
