Oldham Athletic v Tranmere Rovers Match Discussion
By Deadly Submarine
November 9 2012
If you can't make Tranmere's game away at Oldham Athletic on Saturday afternoon, why not join in the banter right here with other Rovers fans who are unable to attend......
For those fans who can't make some of the Rovers games this season, particularly the more costly and time consuming southern away games, we at Total Tranmere will be providing a Match Discussion Thread on the Site for every Rovers game.
The thread will allow you to discuss everything from the pre-match build up and starting line-up to the game it as it progresses and the post-match analysis.
Where possible, Total Tranmere staff will post up the starting line-up and substitutes on the thread as soon as it is made known at the game as well as a half-time report on how the game is going for the benefit of those who are unable to make it.

Tranmere of course, make the trip to Oldham Athetic on Saturday afternoon in NPower League One so if you're not going to the game why not join in the banter right here while the game is going on?
Maybe if you have a friend or family member texting you from the game you can post their views here for others to see as the game progresses.
You could also use this thread to discuss other interesting scores throughout the league as well as discussing this game afterwards if you have been along to the game.
What you discuss below is up to you but hopefully it can all be focused on one thread to make it easier for everyone to use.
Admin staff will try and add the team and updates on the game on this thread where possible whilst there will also be our usual update service from our Twitter feed @totaltranmere so if you are not already following us it may be worth doing so!

Never tell with local games but with so many other top teams playing each other tomorrow looking forward to still being
NO 1 at close of play.
ronnie is doing really well with a small squad and injuries within the small squad
if we could have just beaten doncaster .....!!!
hope there is a good crowd at the next home match

brilliant result especially with sheffield united losing - I think most fans would have pleased with 4 points from the last 2 away matches - a great recovery after picking up only one point from the bournemouth doncaster and preston matches

If it was a boxing match the Doncaster game would have been stopped half way into the second half we ran it but we fell asleep when Hume got that Ball same thing happened with Brentfordnot that we ran the Brentford game but we were winning with only minutes to go so that`s at least two more points if not three we could have now so we may have been between six to eight points ahead now. Still never mind we are still ahead of the pack and long may it continue well till at least 27th of April 2013.

That was the most nervous 10 minutes of the season! were the heck did that injury time come from?!! I don't remember even one in the second half
Half a minute for each of the substitutes and a good bit for the verbal sparrings on the touchline that held things up somewhat.
Thought Kay coped perfectly in that position when Danny went off but as you say he hopefully won't be out too long!
I was pleased to see the defence returning to it's early season form today, both Gibson and Taylor were very good and defending extremely well. They gave us a lot of room in midfield which again we didn't really exploit enough but when we did, Wallace just ran the game and we created a lot of chances.
I thought we lost our way a bit in the middle of the first half despite starting well but when we got a grip of the game again, we created those 3 chances which in all fairness we should have taken at least one of. I'm still wondering how on earth Wallace missed that chance.
All in all a good solid performance, a great goal from Adam McGurk and 5 points clear again. Lets see what the franchise have to offer on Friday.
to be 5 points clear at this stage is incredible
after the strong finish to last season I thought we might have a chance of the play offs but this is beyond my expectations !!
I smell at some point, another goal fest coming soon, but the important thing is the wins and 5 points clear again after dropping from 7 to 0 points clear is a boost.
Tranmere haven't had this kind of start, since the Davies, Shuker injury season, the wrecked a season with wonderful potential.
I believe if they, but particularly Davies had not been crocked, Tranmere might have sneaked top 2 in May, but this season is the best since Tranmere dropped I feel.
Hopefully Ronnie saw enough of Baxter to think again and Baxter saw enough of Wallace's rovers to want back in with his old mucka.
I think if Palmer did go back to Wednesday in January, Baxter and Wallace running the midfield, would be pretty darn interesting, sparking that old chemistry again and I think the lure of Rovers, playing with Wallace and the better potential then Oldham to succeed, could entice Baxter to turn his back on Oldham.
I don't think Tranmere would be very likely, to get another 13 points in the next 6 games. Imagine being on the safety line with exactly half a season down.
Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.
I always felt this was an important game as Oldham represent where we've been the past few years.
Whatever I've said about Ronnie he's greatly improved the team with virtually nothing to spend in a short space of time.
In addition it looks like we'll be in the promotion/play-off mix which will be and exciting experience.
Ronnie deserves praise and thanks for this.
Granted I've not seen either Sheff United or Stevenage but from what I have seen, there is no team that worries me in this league. If we have an off day like we did against Bournemouth, then granted were vulnerable but you only have to look how quickly we created chances yesterday from absolutely nothing, we are absolutely lethal.
I honestly don't see why people are talking about Baxter cause I think he would inhibit Wallace. From his time with us, he's quite a lazy player, doesn't track back that much and certainly isn't box to box like Palmer. He allows Wallace to run the game, get forward when he needs to and protects him when it's needed. Baxter just wouldn't do that. I totally agree with Hoots Mon, Palmer has been the unsung hero so far and we should break our backs to keep him here in January.

oh and there doesn't seem to be any criticism of McGurk this week....what a difference a week makes
He still had an awful game on the whole but got us the win with his well taken goal.
(Which I've just realised rhymes nicely haha)

maybe we should have a "rhyming analysis of the week" award?
Haha I'll take the award this week then if that's OK?!

i may be wrong but haven,t we got palmer for the season?
Only until January mate (at the moment).

We have to really try hard to keep the three we've got. It'd be difficult to find three others who would fit in and perform as well.
Its out of our hands though its upto their clubs what they want to do.

How about Cole Stockton and Danny Harrison coming in to replace Cassidy and Palmer in January?
Wouldnt mind Stockton getting a bit of a run of games although cover will still be needed but dont think Harrison is in the same league as Palmer.
George Thorne of West Brom.
Nacho Ortiz. an 18 year old 3rd year liverpool Academy playewr
Francisco Junior, an Everton player with 1 cap for the portuguese under 21's, but currently no first team starts.
I suspect in relation to Cassidy though, Liverpool wouldn't loan Samed YeÅŸil, but that would be a potentially classy replacement, who so far hasn't played for them.

palmer - that depends on where Sheff Wed are in the league, i reckon they'll want him back as he's highly rated at the club...more for political reasons though, looks bad to have him out winning promotion when his home club is in a dog fight at the foot of the league.
gibson, take him or leave him personally. CB's on loan are ten a penny and we could get someone just as good. i'd look at Jack O'Connell at blackburn rovers, doing well for england u19s
plus we've got goodie who will be 40 next week, ( are we having a whip round? or at least singing happy birthday on tues night? )

i suspect cass will be taken back, assessed, and given back to us, he's not the finished article yet and we are clearly doing him some good.

We won't get another loanee CB as good as Gibson-how you can say ten a penny is ludicrous.

Nacho Ortiz apparently scored 3 in 8, with some assists for the under 18's
Francisco Junior has played for the Portuguese under 21's, so that's evidence he must be pretty decent, because I doubt their under 21's are poor, based on the quality of their full international team.

Also can't understand the criticism of Jervis either. He has played three and a half games and has scored once and assisted another and we also havent lost. He hasn't even played at home yet so a lot of the people won't have even seem him play other than Tuesday on the TV.

In answer to your question Hoots, George Thorne has played for the England under 19's and Portsmouth, so good experience for his age and from a club Tranmere have used for loans before.

We lost on his debut away at Bournemouth...he comes across as lazy, as did Ecclestan. Not what you want to see when the rest of the team is flying high.
As for Gibbo, I stand by my comment, yes he's done well but I'm sure Ronnie can find someone equally as good...In Ronnie We Trust and all that
Tranmere were always going to lose and how much of the blame can lie with Jervis, as opposed to the opposition who had a managerial talisman back?
As Deadly says, Jervis has yet to play at home, but as I said he's got 1 goal and an assist in a short space of time.
People need to be a little more forgiving of players initially, because sometimes some players need time to settle, but on short loan deals, it will be hard, because they only have limited time to impress, in a situation where they will not necessarily be able to hit the ground running.
To be honest, I'd prefer a player who sauntered about looking like he's doing just enough, then bangs home an important goal, than someone who's bustling, busy and not nailing goals.
For me if I'm getting a guy who is contributing to 2 goals in 3 games, he's doing okay for me, even if he might be less "busy" than other players; though other people can always disagree visa vie how he is perceived
