Rovers are handed a boost with the signing today of a striker on loan from the Premier League until the end of the season......

Tranmere Rovers have today signed striker Mamady Sidibe on loan from Premier League side Stoke City until the end of the season in the hope that he will boost the Clubs chances of getting back to winning ways and making one final push for promotion from League One after a recent dip in form.

The 33-year old Mali international has made almost 350 appearances since moving to Swansea City from France in 2001.  He joined Gillingham in 2002 before signing for Stoke City three years later and helped the Potters gain promotion to the Premier League.

He has also spent time on loan at Sheffield Wednesday this season and matches the ‘target man’ mould that Manager Ronnie Moore had been looking to bring in for a number of weeks.

Speaking of the signing of Sidibe today, Rovers Manager Ronnie Moore said....

”I’m delighted to bring Mamady in on loan, he’s the big target man I’ve been looking for and we have beaten quite a few teams to get him.  He’s an experienced striker who leads the line well.  He will cause defenders problems and at six foot four he will give us extra height defending set pieces too.

“I think he can do a really good job for us at this level and he is a big signing for the Club and I’m grateful to Tony Pulis for allowing Mamady to come to us.”

Speaking to Stoke City’s Official Website earlier today, Manager Tony Pulis added....

“In many ways I am sad to see him go out of the door because he is such a fantastic person to have around the place, and I will personally miss him, just as the other lads here will too.  I’m surprised that nobody has come in for Mama before now, because he is such a fantastic lad.”

“He is fit and raring to go again, and this move is a fantastic one for him, whereby he can go out and play some regular football for a very good football club.”

It has also been agreed that the striker can remain at Prenton Park for the League One play-offs in May should Tranmere qualify.  Sidibe is available for Rovers next match away at Colchester United on Saturday afternoon
