Bad result as it gives them a big boost in catching and overtaking us.

We have a big fight on our hands now to make the top 6, we have no realistic hope now of the top 2. We badly need to bounce back on saturday and take at least a point.

Toothless up front. Walsall wernt that good either, a silly pen and a shot we should av closed down. Starting to really worry we going to finish the season with nothing to show for it. Auto promotion has gone, playoffs is the best we can hope for, even that is starting to look more and more slim as the games go on

Tranmere are still 2 points of second. Automatic is still within reach, but hopefully if Gibson comes back and Robbo is available, a win will be more likely at the weekend.

Other teams still have to produce the goods like Tranmere and until they do, the league table says automatic is still on right now, so therefore it's not gone just yet.

you gta be realistic, we cant string two decent results together for a long while and we prob have closer to bottom of table form than top. so for us to get auto we would have to turn very poor form into very good form. i just cant see that happening. we will either sneak into 6th or finish 7th

There was only ever going to be three teams in the league with something to show from the season.... top two and play off winners.... the rest will be in League One again next year.
Before the season started, I would have put my house on Sheff Utd, Coventry and Doncaster being somewhere in the top 4..... to me they wer the teams who had money and surely anything other than promotion would be a bad season for them.
The season we've had has been unreal... its been a pleasure to watch at times and I disagree strongly that we will have nothing to show for it.... in fact, theres quite a lot...

1. The emergence of Max Power
2. The future prospects of Stockton Cole
3. Young players Holmes, Bell Baggie etc signing contracts - they'll be here next year
4. Weve seen some great games this year
5. Weve all had belief... I still believe we can do it
6. Games on TV - we've had much publicity this year
7. PROGRESSION - we fought off relegation last year yet with 8 games to go, we're still in a good position

I understanr fans frustration, I was gutted after last nights result, but then we all knew it would be a rollercoaster finish.... we win against Oldham and we're on a high and believe we can do it..... we lose our next game and all of a sudden we're destined for a 10th place finish!?

If you consider the injuries we have seen at PP this year, you've got to think that theres at least Wallace, Robinson and probably McGurk who would waltz into the first team and who were instrumental in our early season success. Combine this with the injury to Gibbo and theres 4 out of ten outfield players who are missing. Combine this with OFW having a dip in form (it happens, it cant be helped!)

I'm not saying that I'm happy with our latest form, but its a 46 game season...... I cant look at it judging on the last 10 games or so.

Hopefully we can get Gibbo back in, Robbo and McGurk also back soon and grind out a few results, however, if we finish out of the playoffs, it will be one of the best seasons Ive remembered for a while and will certainly give me hope for next year with maybe a few more additions to the squad.

Neal, although I quoted you at the start of this message, dont think this is aimed at you in anyway!

yeah good post sp37634, when i said nothing to show from the season i meant not even in the playoffs come the end, finishing 7th at the start of the season would have been great yes i agree, but then you look at it the other way and we were well into the season and we were something like 7 pts clear at the top an 16 pts clear of 7th!! from that position IF you dont get playoffs it can only be seen a dissapointing 2nd half of the season. I mean if we can get such a lead and not even get playoffs when are we going to make it?! we wont get a better chance than what we havehad this season! can you ever see us 7 pts clear at the top and 16 pts clear of 7th again?! i cannot as it seems bigger and bigger clubs are coming down from the championship each year

I stated at the beginning of the season that I thought we would finish below mid table, so what we have now is a great achievement and even if we don't make it, which will be disappointing, I would like to think that next seasons prospects look a lot better than they have for a few years

I may be negative but cant see hope for next season, unless we get a striker in who can score goals, we will struggle. We need midfielder, striker and defender.
I also would have been happy with 7th at beginning of season but after season we have had if we finish 7th now it will be disappointing and annoying end of season.

Totally agree with you ming, at start of season 7th would have been great, but to get in the position we were in and if we were to finish outside the playoffs it can only been seen as a dissapointing end to what shaped to be a very promising season.

Yep good post SP. Also agree with you Neal it will be very disappointing if we miss out on play-offs given where we have been all season. That's not to say the players have let us down but our expectations are higher as we have shown what we can do. Our forwards really need to start scoring and so does Palmer who for me has been sub-standard with no Wallace alongside him.

I think we are toothless up front atm, maybe down to us having both our wingers out but still expect more from akpro and mama. We struggle in centre midfield, palmer and power dont work, corry has been a dissapointment. We need an influential player in there, wallace was perfect. Anyone no when the loan window shuts?! i no we aint got money to throw around but getting a experienced midfielder in on loan for a couple of months may give us the boost we need. Cannot cost that much for 2 months, and it would surly be worth the risk for 2months part contribution to wages, that may just get us up and running again

Tranmere however have suffered numerous setbacks. Akpro missing for about 3 months, Wallace since about November, an various other injuries.

There's only about 2 or 3 players who started the first league game, who haven't been injured.

So hardly a disspointing second half of the season, as less injuries would have sparked more form.

The season is still not over yet.
