Five players offered new contracts by boss Ronnie Moore

Article Header - Breaking News

Tranmere Rovers have today announced they intend to offer new deals to five of their out of contract players, including 40-year old defender Ian Goodison.

The former Jamaican international, who played 12 times for Rovers during the 2012/13 season, joined the Super Whites in 2004, when he was snapped up by his ex-Hull City manager Brian Little.

He has gone on to represent the club on nearly 400 occasions since his debut against Oldham, scoring 13 goals, and he would be eligible for a testimonial at Tranmere should he sign the new contract, as it would take him past ten years service at Prenton Park.

The other players to be offered new contracts by manager Ronnie Moore are winger Andy Robinson and goalkeeper Jason Mooney, along with Owain fon Williams and Zoumana Bakayogo.

However, Moore has already expressed his doubts over whether the latter will still be at Prenton Park next year, as he has attracted interest from Championship clubs.

Along with the quintet being offered new deals, a further five out of contract players have been released by the Wirral club.

They include three players signed by Ronnie Moore since his return to the club thirteen months ago - David Amoo, Danny Harrison, Paul Black - as well as Adam McGurk and Michael Kay, who have been at Tranmere since the 2010/11 campaign.

These players are now free to enter contract discussions with other clubs.

No surprises really...

McGurk has just had far too many injuries to be honest.

I think this affected his form as he never had a settled run in the side, and ultimately when you're on a tight budget you can't afford to have players like this.

A shame as he could deliver a great ball, and chipped in with some important goals.

Black - another player who has had various niggles and never had a run in the team.

Amoo - looks like he has decent talent at times, but too inconsistent.

Harrison - never got a chance due to the emergence of Max Power. Was never going to win the fans over really.

Kay - decent player in games this season, maybe the most surprising not to be kept on due to his versatility.

McGurk is the one I would have personally kept.

I guess Ronnie probably thought he couldn't afford two injury prone wingers in Robinson and McGurk, and opted for the experience of Robbo instead. Not 100% sure that's the correct decision.

For all that he has been a good servant I really cannot understand retaining Goodison for another year. We need players capable of playing regularly and that can generate competition for places. Goody has now to be used sparingly and that is a luxury we cannot afford. We would be better to have centre backs that can all play on a regular basis.

I am surprised that Mcgurk has gone but can understand the issue of injuries reducing his contribution but that same logic hold s more so with a 40 year old. Particularly one on past evidence that is as likely to be on the beach when pre season training starts.

I see what you mean and on balance would repeat my previous post.

Goodison showed (mostly) this season that he still more than capable of playing at the back.

They there's no room for sentiment in football these days but I doubt we might ever get another playing staying at the Club for ten years!

McGurk in addition to his injury record didnt really want to get involved too much on the pitch. Some great goals but totally inconsistent and not a player you would want in a "do or die" situation

Doesn't want to get involved?

He said after one result he was itching to get on, either at the back or up front for 20 minutes and do something, but Ronnie didn't sub him.

That sounds like someone who wants to give, not one who doesn't.

Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

What I meant was that he doesnt seem too keen on the physical side of the game which may be why RM has ditched him

That was my mistake Runcorn, I read your comments then made a statement about Goodison, not McGurk. I don't know where my head was at when I replied.
