Rovers legend Ian Goodison signs a new one-year contract at Prenton Park
Tranmere centre-back Ian Goodison has put pen to paper on a new one-year contract, keeping him at Prenton Park until the end of the 2013/14 season.
The deal will see Goodison into his testimonial year at Prenton Park, a feat only achieved by John Achterberg this century.
It also means that the Jamaican, who is already Tranmere's oldest ever player, will stay on the Wirral past his 41st birthday.
Goodison was originally brought to Prenton Park in 2004 by Brian Little, his manager at Hull City, and quickly became a fans favourite due to his dependable displays, tough tackling and no nonsense defending.
He has made 390 appearances and scored thirteen goals, the most important of which was the opening strike in Rovers' 3-0 win at Stockport on the final day of the 2009/10, a win that ensured Tranmere's League One position.
On the new contract, Rovers manager Ronnie Moore said: “People might be surprised that I’ve offered him a contract at the age of 40 but Ian doesn’t play like a 40-year old.
“He is not like any other player I’ve ever worked with, he’s a one off and his team mates love him.
“He has an incredible amount of experience and has helped our young defenders this season with a lot of advice before and during matches.“

Danny Coyne, I'm not sure on.
However people need to stop looking at age as a reason to baulk signings.
Kevin Phillips is 39 and scored 6 in 14 in the championship, playing mostly in the second half of games.
If that was someone who was 29, scoring 6 in 14, playing full championship matches, many people would be thinking I wish we could have him at Tranmere.
If Ronnie signed Phillips the day after his depature from Blackpool, which is apparently going to happen, some Tranmere fans would dispair and slate the club for signing some sort of geriatric target man, dispite having great form at a higher level, which for his age is highly impressive.
If he was signed, I reckon at league 1 level, he could play for 60+ minutes at least, then be subbed off and use Stockton and would be great for the strikers to learn from and maybe brought into a coaching role as well.
With his championship form, I reckon it's possible he could score more goals per season, playing 45-60 minutes a game, than most Tranmere strikers in the last 10 years could, playing 46 full league games.
