Former Tranmere players to take on the Vauxhall Motors 2002, QPR conquering team in a charity match in aid of Diabetes UK and the Tranmere Former Players Foundation......

The first weekend of the new League One season will have added interest this year thanks to a Charity football match taking place on Sunday 4th August, just a day after Tranmere travel to Walsall for the opening day of the new League season.

The match, which will take place at Vauxhall Motors' Rivacre Park ground, will see a team of former Tranmere Rovers players take on the 2002 FA Cup giantkilling Vauxhall Motors side who will re-unite for the game eleven years after they knocked Queens Park Rangers out of the FA Cup.

The match is being held in aid of Diabetes UK and in memory of Vauxhall Motors Ladies team player Nicola Rigby who sadly died of the condition last July.  Some of the money raised on the day will also go to the Tranmere Rovers Former Players Foundation who are providing the Rovers players for the game and assisting with preparation for the event.   The Former Players Foundation helps out Rovers players who have retired who may need financial assistance for medical bills resulting from football career related injuries.

The match will kick off at 2:00pm on Sunday 4th August at Rivacre Park and will also feature other charity related events on the day including a raffle and an auction and will also see a member of the public playing on each team who have won an auction to earn their place on the teams, an initiative which has already raised a decent amount of money towards the event's total.

Admission to the match is £5 for Adults, £3 for Concessions, £1 for Under 16's and £10 for a Family Ticket (Up to 2 Adults and 2 Under 16's).

Admission will be available on the day but tickets will also shortly be available in advance from Lookers in Ellesmere Port, the Vauxhall Motors Social Club at Rivacre Park and from the Gloryhunters shop on Borough Road near to Prenton Park.

Stay tuned to Total Tranmere for more information about this event.

It was a good event despite the poor weather. Great to see some of my heroes from days gone by!
