Walsall (A) Match Discussion Thread

By Deadly Submarine
August 3 2013

If you can't make Tranmere's opening game away to Walsall in Sky Bet League One on Saturday afternoon, why not join in the banter right here with other Rovers fans who are unable to attend...

Following football even at League One level is pretty expensive these days and no matter how much you love the Rovers, it will sometimes be difficult to make the games in person whether it be the lengthy away trips, or for exiles living elsewhere in the UK or abroad, the home games too.

As a result, for those fans who can't make some of the Rovers games this season, we at Total Tranmere will be providing this match discussion thread for you to discuss developments with the game.

Stadium - Walsall

Tranmere of course, travel to Walsall in Sky Bet :League One on Saturday afternoon for the opening game of the season so if you're not going to the game why not join in the banter right here while the game is going on?  You could also use this thread to discuss other interesting scores throughout the league as well as discussing this game afterwards if you have been to watch the game live.

What you discuss below is up to you but hopefully it can all be focused on one thread to make it easier for everyone to use.

Tactically clueless manager......every bit as bad as Barnes/Les on the last 6 months.

Same mistakes, old school philosophy.....

3-1 down no defence set pieces again it`s blown my prediction league forecast out of the water. Still ten points ahead of Coventry.

not a good start, ronnie needs to re-think about getting some new defenders in quick for the next game, holmes, horwood, taylor all rubbish, I could see it in the friendlies, horwood is to slow and useless at tackleing sorry ronnie u picked a bum note here.

Were you there? Your comment before about Atkinson suggests not.

How can you say how good or bad any player was if you weren't there to see it?

How can you compare playing against Walsall with playing against Lairds and other lowly teams?

Oh well the bickering has started all ready. I fear a long hard frustrating season ahead. Lets all remember though we are all Tranmere through and through so give the team a few more games at least before the real venom starts. Think yourselves lucky though I have possible just had the worst curry ever and have to travel back south with a dodgy stomach.

Losing the first game means nothing in the grand scheme of things...usually.... BUT..... what concerns me is the manner in which we lost.

The defence and midfield were absolutely abysmal in what was one of the worst Rovers performances I can remember in my 20 odd years of watching.

It could have been 7 by half time and Walsall must have been fuming to go in 2-1 ahead at the break.

This kind of start takes a lot of putting right and we don't have the personnel to put the poor players places under threat.

''The 2 fellas on the radio''eye rolling smiley

Horwood was fine in the only friendly I saw-Altrincham. But then so was McSweeney and he's vanished from the face of the earth without trace it would appear.

It's one performance. It wasn't great, but there's 45 more league games to go and Ronnie has the chance to repair dented belief in the teams ability, against a league 2 side in the cup.

A re-think may be in order for him as well.

Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

It would appear reading his comments on the OS after the game that he laid all the blame on the players and none on himself.

An atrocious performance today. At least 7 of our players don't seem to have anywhere near the fitness levels required for a competitive game of football. 3 of them looked visibly overweight.
Fon Williams OK. Sodje anonymous first half but fought well in the second. Lowe with no service whatsoever but looked sharp om the rare occasion he got the ball. The rest of the team, dire every one of them.

woke up(been on nights)put radio on heard team & formation, thought @#$%& we're going to lose. Why have 2 wingers & play JLAA on the wing?Lowe said on Sky Sports he's been playing well & scoring with Thommo. We played that way against Wrexham & lost, didn't Ronnie learn anything from that.Mate who is a Huddersfield fan said before we signed him, we shouldn't have took Atkinson,he is crap,Andy Doyle on Radio Merseyside said that Koumas should start before him on the next match, but it is a team game & everyone, players, staff & manager are accountable for such a poor performance

bigmart im 37 mate been watchin rovers since i was 10, i can tell a player if he is rubbish and i say horwood is and sodje, sorry if u think otherwise but thats my opinion, if u think for one minute horwood is better than zoom i dont know wot planet your on ?? (Sm28)

Re: Walsall (A) Match Discussion Thread

To be fair, the general opinion of hartlepool supporters was that Horwood is ok going forward but a very poor defender. For me the latter quality is more important.Similarly I think that Holmes is also poor defensively and the lack of cover in each position means that we are left without options.
Our defensive midfield is also poor and this is neither a role for Robinson or Koumas.I cannot see how we can realistically ever play both as each lacks pace. There is the conundrum tha a striker like Lowe needs service from wide men but Robinson looks too slow when played wide.Thompson or Baggie offer an alternative and each looked good only in patches last season.

I know that the constant refrain in the second half of last season was the lack of strike power, but was it ever that simple? Our greatest problem was not providing chances after thompson form declined following injury and wallace was absent. This was reflected in the decline in Cassidy's strike rate.On the evidence of yesterday this remains a problem.

Deadly is right, the opening game is an unreliable indicator, but when it reflects all he worst features of the second half of the last season then it cannot be discounted.

Goosed, I haven't said hes better than zoom.

you think hes 1 of the worst players you've seen ive seen a lot worse players than him as ive been going considerably longer than you and we had some truly awful players in the 70's and early 80's.

so after 1 competitive game you can tell a bad player can you? well done glad you've had a good look at him before writing him off.

So your opinion is based on what you heard two blokes on the radio saying and friendlies against Lairds and Burnley??????

That's been an apparent failing of some Tranmere followers and nothing meant to Goosed by this, but it's writing people off too quickly. Showunmi after half a friendly, Morrow before he'd even left Northern Ireland.

People need to consider players after 5, 6, plus games at leats.

I think Ronnie was right to stick it to the players to some extent, as he was talking about players doing things, that in training they wren't doing, but he needs to look at one or two selections and admit playing a striker out wide, probably isn't the best thing to do.

I wonder if he will be fronting his own little Tranmere Player show, called CSI Walsall?

Then I ate his Liver.......... with some baked beans and a can of coke.

I have seen comments elsewhere which claim he is hardly ever at training.

He also needs to look at his own part in yesterdays debacle.
