Tranmere Rovers v Brentford Match Discussion Thread
By Deadly Submarine September 13 2013
If you can't make Tranmere's home League game against Brentford on Saturday afternoon, why not join in the banter right here with other Rovers fans who are unable to attend...
Following football even at League One level is pretty expensive these days and no matter how much you love the Rovers, it will sometimes be difficult to make the games in person whether it be the lengthy away trips, or for exiles living elsewhere in the UK or abroad, the home games too.
As a result, for those fans who can't make some of the Rovers games this season, we at Total Tranmere will be providing this match discussion thread for you to discuss developments with the game.
Tranmere of course, host Brentford in Sky Bet League One on Saturday afternoon so if you're not going to the game why not join in the banter right here while the game is going on? You could also use this thread to discuss other interesting scores throughout the league as well as discussing this game afterwards if you have been to watch the game live.
What you discuss below is up to you but hopefully it can all be focused on one thread to make it easier for everyone to use.

Well, either we have three masochists on this board so far or they won't be wasting money on going to a game they believe we will definitely lose. Me, i have no idea how we will do, which is why i will go along with the hope we will break the bad sequence at home.

Rowe, akpa-akpro, Holmes are the only one's who can go out of today and say "I'm not to blame" the rest all made bad errors. Atkinson and power can't hold-mid, need Jennings back and how. Dugdale and Fons kicking was terrible, the ironic cheers when he came out say it all.
(4-2-3-1) Mooney, horwood, Holmes, Goodison, Dugdale, Jennings, Atkinson, Robinson, Rowe, akpa-akpro, Stockton, that might beat county.
Sorry Angry White, I never have a go a the players, however if you check the game tonight, you will see Danny HOLMES make a mistake for their 3rd goal. I thought the lads had a terrible start but showed some dame hard work to get back in the game. Not sure we deserved to lose it at the death.
Yes of course it does. You have lots of things to say considering you've seen nothing with your own eyes. Expressing opinions on an individual players performance is ridiculous if you're somewhere else.
Rowe worked hard but would like to see him use his skill to go past players a bit....(confidence...)
Atkinson for me is a good box to box player and great run for the goal....him and jennings would be a good starting point in midfield.
What was our shape first half??? Thompson right wing and 3 centre mids??
Stockton again makes an impact....again why sodje is here i don't know. cole easily good enough as a 3rd choice and potentially should be starting.
Would have ash and goodi back playing together....always played well together understand each others games etc...why we're playing dugdale to get him fit for crewe to take back I really don't know. (and yes he scored a tap in but that counts for nothing)
OFW had a shocker but let's not destroy another player by getting on his back.
Lowe is again starved of decent service. No wonder he's frustrated.
Tactics and organisation were diabolical. AGAIN
And with there defence struggling against pace why not bring Baggie on with more than 1 min 30 left in the game...???
Positives are they showed fight to get back into it but that should be the norm every week.
Deadly Submarine I wasn't there today but haven't been told by anyone I know that we deserved to lose today.
Barring the poor start I'm told we would have got a draw at the very least if not a win.
We did not deserve to lose that's why. We looked like we were going to get routed in the first twenty minutes but had a real go at them after that and were unlucky not to score before we got one back.Second half started as the first ended with us looking the more likely to score but after we equalised we seemed to throttle back on our good gutsy fighting play. The game became more tetchy with Grigg the main culprit but they scored when the game was fairly even .Again we went for the equaliser and when Cole scored I wanted the ref to blow the final whistle there and then. Unfortunately the ref had other ideas.......
The defence is still a disorganised mess on too many occasions and this should have been sorted out long ago and is costing us big time. But at least there was a lot of fighting spirit shown today and we did not roll over just like against Peterborough. When we play as a team we are much better than when we play as individuals.
That should have been 3-3. Brentford didn't deserve the win.
It's true Goosed, that you can say what you like, but sometimes it might look a little but of a speculative verdict to some, because it's based on what some DJ says, or some guy who's had 3 whisky's might have said.
People will differ and peoples perceptions of individual situations might differ, but I can see why sometimes people who watch a live event, may get a little frustrated with people who didn't making definitive statements sometimes, because it may look like someone trying to imagine a jigsaw with only a few pieces to work with, when other people have a more complete picture.
that's not a criticism that's just a honest observation.
Nobody wants to marginalise others or take away a persons right to voice opinions, as long as they're not nasty or sound like blatently made up lies, but some people will disagree sometimes, if they have seen things that others who didn't, that are refuted because of second hand insights.

I cannot make every game. What i did notice today: fonners was poor, especially in kicking and 'controlling his area'. There was no playing from the back. Probably a good thing with the defence being so poor. However, there was a never say die attitude and getting back to 3-3 was deserved, the penalty very harsh but had we had better defenders.... Guess it was an 'oldham payback' ! I understand a new defender is on the cards for next week. Probably called I M Goosed lol seriously, anyone heard who the target is?
Its funny how people see things differently from the stands as I don't really rate Atkinson that mush at all. For me, he dissapears far too much in games and doesn't really do enough to help Max in the centre. Granted he scored the goal today, took it well and he does get into the positions but I think he needs to up his work rate. I just don't think you can afford to have a player like this at this level because they need to be on the game for 90 mins.
While I'm on the negativity, can we please drop Thomson. He contributed absolutely nothing today and apart from the first game of the season where he actually looked half decent, he seems to have returned to the player we saw last season. I'll be dissapointed if he starts next week. Also, its time Fon Williams got the chop. He is costing us more and more and we just cannot see it. Mooney came in last week and did a good job so why on earth does he get put back on the bench. Fonners has no control over his box, refuses to come for crosses and his kicking is dire. You can see that the two centre backs have absolutely no confidence in him and until he gets the chop, he will cost us more points.
On a positive note though, when we finally woke up after 25 minutes I thought the lads put in a hell of a shift. Rowe was fantastic, Max worked his backside off and Holmes seems to getting back to his old self again. I also thought Horwood was excellent too, just wish our two striker would get into positions to meet those superb crosses he puts in. We didn't deserve to lose the game but at 2-2 they were there for the taking and we didn't take advantage. We've got to learn to become more ruthless.
Ratings IMO
FON 5: good saves in the first half, kicking, handling and disrubution was dreadful.
HOLMES 5.5: made a few errors in defense as usual although he was good going forward.
GOODISON 5.5 He looked tired would rest him for notts game an play Ash so he's fresh for Stoke match.
DUGDALE 5 Nice finish for the goal, passing and positioning was very poor at times.
Horwood 5: Great going forward as normal some superb crosses however he should of stopped the cross for there 3rd goal.
Thompson 4: Absoultley dreadful wimped out of challenges and had no fighting spirit and he was poor going forward.
Power 5: Not good he is not the same player who came into the side last season.
Rowe 5: He did a few good challenges and worked hard but his passing and his technique was poor on the ball.
Atkinson: for me man of the match worked very hard got a goal and helped defense out at times but only at times.
Akpro 5: Did ok looked good when he was running at defense but his final ball/shot like all this season was poor again today.
Lowe 5.5: Worked very hard chasing down every ball unlucky not to score but wasn't impressed with him having a go at a fan.
Robbo 4.5: looked rusty and overweight needs game time
Baggie 5: looked sharp and hungry for the ball would start him over Thompson next match.
Stockton 5:5 fantastic finish again from him needs more game time tho.
We paid the price for a awful start, which looked like we were going to get a hammering our defence was poor and midfield failed to provide any real cover.
Credit for getting back level twice only for a cruel ending to deny us anything again.
We are paying the price for a poorly assembled squad, we didn't need to sign Sodje we needed more cover at the back and somebody in midfield who can tackle. We are in for a tough season unless we can get a couple of decent loan players in.
However that penalty and 2 shots hitting the post against Stevenage are all that have stopped Tranmere being 4 places higher and 5 points off the playoffs.
Tranmere are doing better than Bristol City, Sheffield United and Notts County who can spend much more money, although it would be nice perhaps if Peter Johnson had been bought out by an oil baron or whatever that prince is and Ronnie had more money.
I still think a Ronnie led team with twice as much money to spend, would be better than another manager with the current budget, but until Tranmere get a significant budget increase, Ronnie's managerial muscle won't get enough flexing.
